Repairing Bushnell Tour Z6 Jolt

I have a Bushnell Tour Z6 Jolt which is about 3 year old so out of warranty. The problem is that it does not pick up any distances anymore. The battery is full.

Any idea what could be wrong with it? With my old Pinseeker 1500 I was able to adjust the laser after it didn't pick up anything over 50 yards. Is there a similar repair you can do with the Tour Z6 Jolt?

I managed to get a few readings by pressing both buttons at the same time but those readings where way off (140 yards but I was shooting a wall inside - and believe me my house is not that big ;-) and it stopped reporting any readings shortly after

It seems Bushnell in the UK does not do any repairs. Does anyone know of any other places in the UK that does repairs? I've googled but could not find anything.

Take it apart and do some circuit continuity tests. You might find one that is no longer working and it might only need a re-solder of a contact. The screws to take it apart are under the rubber cover so you have to peel that off. Carefully. That was what was ailing one of my older Bushnell's. It worked fine until I dropped it too many times and then the laser wasn't lining up with the crosshairs any more.

Easier said than done! I got the rubber sleeve off but now I am stuck. I've taken out the 3 screws on the casing under the rubber and the tripod attachment but I can't get the interior out.

I assume this is supposed to slight out? This thing is clearly not designed to be taken apart ;-(

Front plate screws? It likely snaps together as well as the screws holding it. Might take some delicate prying along a seam.

Brute force did it. There is a seal that you have to remove and then use a flat screwdriver as a lever to force it out. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it ;-)

It doesn't seem to be a lose contact, at least not that I can see it. As with the laser unit. I can't say whether the laser works at all as the wavelength of the laser is outside the visible spectrum and I can't see way to 'calibrate' the laser. I can see a mirror setup for the laser but I wouldn't know how you could adjust it in case it is out of line.

You will need a continuity tester or a multi-meter to test if the circuits are connecting. Visually, you can't tell.

I’ve got a multi-meter and tested the cables.

That's all I've got for you. I was able to find a connection on mine that looked solid but wasn't making a connection until I re-soldered it. You might have a problem with a circuit chip which is way beyond my electronic skills. Since Bushnell won't repair it, maybe a cell phone or computer tech can help you out? Or just accept that it's time to buy another one.

If the thing is powering on, odds are the prism and/or mirrors need realignment, and you need to send it back to Bushnell to do that.

 

Note that opening these things up probably destroyed any kind of water resistance it had.

Repair not an option for him. Take a chance and try to fix it. Nothing to lose.

Or maybe try Bushnell Europe. I have to believe that Bushnell will support it products in Europe. Are they simply saying that it's too old?

I'd let them know that you wont be buying again if no support. I bet Nikon would provide support in Europe.

Does anyone know if you could get a replacement rubber cover for these (like the one that was removed from this unit) i cant seem to find one and mine is all torn up.

Likely would have to buy one that doesn't work and take the cover off it.

 

Or try a good automotive/hardware store.  They have liquid rubber that you can dip parts or tools in to cover them in a rubber coating.  You can also paint it on.  Might cover the areas that are torn.

I know you can trade in an older laser to Bushnell and get a credit towards a new one.  since this one has been taken apart I'm pretty sure that option is gone.

Hi Par Hunter. I’m doing the same thing right now! My LCD display has disappeared so I’m going to check the internal connections. Can you recall, is it the seal around the front plate that needs to be broken? Once that is done then I’m guessing you apply the brute force to remove it from the case. It looks like the rear plate (white) remains connected to the case. Thanks in advance. Brett from Oz
