Is the Ryder Cup the biggest event in golf?

Masters would, with a rebuild of 17 and 18, easily be the best individual stroke play event. Especially, I would say, for us people far enough on the northern hemisphere to have Masters coinciding with own golf played for the first time in half a year. Masters is great. But 17 and 18 brings BO into play, when played on like Portrush.

RC is just something else, crazy exciting, the only golf that can bring missus an the kids to the TV for golf.

LOL! …… The only way my missus would watch any golf event, if they were selling shoes on the 19th hole and dresses at the turn.....(joke) Seriously, She would not watch GOLF no matter what...

I love the other majors, but I'll not wake up at 3am to watch The Open, and certainly not be glued to the tv for every shot like I do the Ryder Cup. Even The Masters I don't dedicate that much attention to, so for me the Ryder Cup it is.

While I respect your views and viewing habits......I've been known to get up in the middle of the night and watch any European Tournament.....So, nothing special there...LOL! joke, sarcasm. For me, the RC has become a putting contest.

While I will watch the RC as long as I don't have other things to do, like be on the golf course, I certainly don't go out of my way for it like I would for many other golf events. Watching the Masters is something I will happily schedule my weekend around, the US Open I will watch as much as I can given the gigantic coverage window we have, The Open is one I will happily wake up a little early and watch as much as humanly possible, the PGA even peaks my interest enough to be sure I can watch. The Players I will watch while working, but weekends will not make it any kind of priority unless it's a bunched leaderboard and there could be some interesting swings down the stretch. So no, the Ryder and Presidents cups are far from the most important or biggest events in golf, there's actually countless events I will watch before them.

Well it is late in the day when the leaders get there so they may be a little ripe, lol.

Masters and The Open Championship are my favorites. OP starts a thread about the "biggest" but seems to ask for personal favorites, so I'm sticking with my personal favs.

Sometimes I'm energized to watch the Ryder Cup and sometimes I'm not. Last time around, not so much. It's a huge event, and I love the Euro view of it.

I'm finding myself with less "must see" golf as time goes by and still on most weekends, playing will take precedence over watching - which is why I gravitate more and more to the Euro Tour, plus I like the venues and the commentators and the "vibe" (when Pelley isn't pushing a contrived vibe).

Shame on you.....

If you are going to tell the story of the Ryder Cup, tell the whole story....Contrary to popular belief the Ryder Cup didn't start in 2010. It started in 1927 and the

record is 26US and 16EUR (approx.). The US has won seven in a row twice. Jack Nicklaus wanted to bring all of Europe into the mix and since then Europe has won eleven of twenty.

Some of the numbers might not be accurate but you get the idea.

Yeah you're right, I lumped the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup together for some reason. I could care less about the presidents cup haha

The Ryder Cup is so much more than an “all star game” or exhibition the way some people are describing it. So many pros talking about the crushing pressure they feel when they play: no one says that about the nba all star game. (I remember Graeme McDowell saying the RC’s pressure made him so nervous that it made Sunday at the USOpen at Pebble feel like an afternoon round with his Dad.)

Read John Feinstein’s book (“the First Major”) about the RC. So many great stories in there. Makes you appreciate it more.

Tell the whole story? What relevance does 80 or 90 years ago have to today. The sad fact for the US is that in recent history its been dominated by Europe. In the last 25 years europe are 11.5-5.5 up. In fact there was a lot of chat here after Paris, that Canada and Mexico should be added to the USA in an attempt to try and even it up a bit.

I love the Ryder cup, i love everything about it, i book days off work to make sure i don't miss anything, but its no where near the biggest in terms of the sport

But if your European or American i don't get why Golf fans don't like the Ryder cup, for me its definitely the most exciting tournament, but i am European

LOL! ….. You would think that The RC was the biggest event in the entire world, if you listened to some of these golf shows.....I thought it was just me saying "WHAT! GET OUT OF HERE!"

Let me get this straight......you can look at the last 25 years but I can't look at the last 90 years, really? LOL! The US has won seven in a row twice. Just an exhibition.

Americans like the Ryder Cup....It wasn't that serious when we were winning and it is not that serious while we are losing. We have no RC legends.

And you will need to win another 7 in a row just to make it competitive again........

well Id say long about 80 years ago had the good ole US of A not intervened in a worldly event, you'd be speaking the same language as Martin Kaymer.......history matters, just sayin.

Welp, guess we'll just have to settle for having the two greatest of all time and the current world number one....
