Why no 0.350 hosel any more?

Just wondering why manufacturers moved to 0.335 hosel for woods? Seems like with today's trend of chasing low launch/spin ball flight, thicker tip would be better? What are chances of OEM's going back?

Anyways, this popped into my head as I was ordering bushing ferrules today to reshaft my driver :/

Manufacturers didn't move to .335. They were already there and then .350 was introduced alongside of it.

The Rogue Subzero fairways were/are .350, learned that the hard way. ;/

.350 was a attempt to use more resin to protect the tip from breakage on the hosel top , but that seems to be a "non issue" in reality since shafts can be broken many different places, not only at the hosel top.

Tip diameter (larger), prevent tip movement/bending (fully), and thats why Tom Wishon made a series of ..335 HYBRID shafts to improve launch condition compared to .370 as standard, so even for hybrids who often has ground contact, breakage on the hosel top is not a big issue.

Spin levels is mostly vertical gear effects (on drivers), and testing has shown that when we make impact on the upper 1/3 like we should, shafts with softer tip to mid sections allow more head twisting who cuts of more spin, and then shafts with the label "high launch low spin" actually deliver what they say they can do, but if we make a low face impact, its the other way and they add tons of spin.

Stiff tipped shafts might prevent too much dynamic loft added, but they cant prevent spin if we make impact to low on the face since vertical gear effects overrules both dynamic loft and spin loft.

Here is a compare of a 2 shaft models as both .335 and .350 and we can see that the tip becomes a bit stronger on the .350 models.

I think you’re confusing the shape of the hosel with it being .350”. Callaway, like many other manufacturers, use special ferrules to align the shaft in the hosel. If you use a standard ferrule, then usually a shim is needed to make the connection tighter. The hosels are .335 at the bottom.

"Most" hybrids is U 0.370, and some is 0.355 taper tip, and a limited number is U 0.335

.350 is only used by a few OEMs on certain models, and .350 was for woods, i actually dont have a single .350 hybrid shaft in my DB who is a few thousand shaft models (all combined), but they might exist but is NOT the norm for hybrids.

EDIT

i actually found a few from Mitsubishi as the only brand with .350 hybrid shafts in my DB (11 shafts total)

The 0.350 shafts appeared in a number of long clubs in the early 2000s.

My Callaway HyperX Tour driver and X Tour 3W both came with 0.350 tip. The shaft was the Fuji E360 FitOn (hosel was bonded / not adjustable). Many of the Callaway drivers and FWs from 2002-2008 had the 0.350 tip.

In TM offerings, the V-Steel fairway woods and selected drivers and FWs in the r5, r7 and Burner families had 0.350 tips. Most recent was AeroBurners.

Really? I have some older clubs (early 2010's?) around and all drivers came with 0.350 shafts. Surprised that 350 is newer. I've only been tinkering with clubs for about four years now so I have no idea what shaft companies were making before then.

.335 has been around for close to 40 years.

And before .335, woods with steel shafts were .295" tip dia.
