New FlightScope Mevo+ (MERGED)

Anything like this must be accurate in terms of launch carry and spin. These three will help most practice. If they’re off by 5 yards, 700 rpms and 4 degrees then it’s a video game and nothing more.

Track and field is not a very good analogy. The golf swing is a very complex sequence of events. Minor variations at one point can easily be amplified through the rest of the sequence, especially in the presence of certain swing flaws that negatively effect the efficiency of the swing. Plus most ams don't even come close to the level of athleticism you're used to seeing at those track and field events.

Don't have a lot on this computer but here's one session of 4 shots with a 6 mph spread. Also the club fitting club making sub-forum generally has lot of posted data from people asking to help evaluating results from various fitting attempts. If you could probably find plenty of other examples there.

I'll take your word for it.

I have the original Mevo and am confident it misreads club speed from time to time. I posted some data a little while back (link below) and am confident the fastest swing wasn't really 87.5 and the slowest wasn't 80.8.https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/comment/19275296/#Comment_19275296

The Mevo is very touchy. Some days I have only 2mph variation and some days quite a bit. If what Stuart says is true, then the variable is likely me.

Here are some shots from my son’s swings at the driving range the other day where he is maxed out and the Mevo failed to read his ball speed. All three shots looked identical from a launch perspective and the flights looked the same. Of course, he does swing 124 peak, verified on my buddy’s Xi and a Trackman facility, but is possibly at the cusp the Mevo reading capability?

His ProV1 ball speed is 182 average with Trackman hitting outdoors from a covered bay.

I’d guess the spin numbers are way off.

RZWW7NOGXDZA.pngSo, I’d be likely to buy a Mevo+ if it was more accurate.

Unless the driving range uses ProV1s, the spin and ball speed is likely different than his usual due to use of range balls.

MEVO is incredibly good for the data it measures and reports. When you consider the price point and video capability it's a no-brainer.

MEVO+ is exciting. Looking forward to reports from the PGA show...

Yes, very much so. We use Srixon, Srixon Marathon and Top Flight balls where some are definitely wearing out.

The main thing Mevo is useful is just to track progress. Ball speed is not that accurate and the use of range balls further exacerbates that inaccuracy.

Yes, for the price it’s fantastic. I’m also looking forward to the Mevo+. If it’s anywhere as nice as XI, I’ll get that. I’m also borrowing my buddies Xi and might end up buying it if the Mevo+ is over $1000.

From watching videos on TXG clubhead speed is hard for cameras and radars to pick up correctly because all clubheads are different shapes and sizes whereas the ball stays a constant shape to track. I have read that Mevo's ballspeed numbers can be inconsistent though. I guess you get what you pay for.

You get what you pay for, as with all things in life. With that being said, for the time I had the Mevo it was very accurate in terms of ball speed. CHS is where I did see some errors, but not really important IMO. Ball speed is king. I ultimately sold it because my old range used old limited flight balls, so there were absolutely some non-linear effects seen with ball speed with driver. I'm talking 4-5mph ball speed differences between a range ball and premium ball

@Krt22 said I'm talking 4-5mph ball speed differences between a range ball and premium ball

In many cases, I'd actually expect a bigger difference with the limited flight range balls. Many are specifically designed to drop the ball speed by up to 10%.
4-5 mph sounds more like normal (not limited flight) crappy range balls.

When I did my testing, the ball speeds were fine. I'm not sure where these people are getting the problems. It was tested against GolfZon, indoor system sponsoring LPGA, largest in Korea. I'm not saying that it's fully accurate, but you have to bear in mind, neither are the top flight systems. In MGS's tests, even the top money system had some weird readings with wedges.

When I use it outdoor, I sometimes have trouble picking up the balls being hit. When it does record it, it's usually fairly accurate. However the clubhead speed doesn't always show up. The main problem like others have said is that I'm not a pro with a bag of proV1s at the range. I try to hit from grass, but it's with lower grade range balls. Thus the numbers I get I use to measure my consistency. The easiest way to set it up is to just use one of your golf clubs to set the distance. Measure the exact length that produces, and use that as your guidance at the range. Also make sure no balls are in the vicinity to confuse it. Even Trackman will get confused by more than 1 ball.

More expensive units have more radars, and can go further. Mevo I believe does some calculations for the full flight, and that was some of the inaccuracies for carry distance etc. An upgrade in parameters would be very welcome, but if they don't include some simulation course capabilities they are missing out on a lot of money I think. Both on customers who want to do more for their indoor setup but don't want to pay for a more expensive FS unit, and also the ones who want to see more data but don't want to pay 2000 for something that only does data. That puts them behind skytrak, and that's a hard sell.
