Walking Stick is open but cart path only if using a cart based on increased play.

next year i'm going to need to start a "trip to AZ in the winter" fund. this damned snow on the ground for so long is figuratively killing me 😅 🥶

Typically I go skiing during the winter, so it's a non-issue. This year, I requested a refund of our skiing season passes because we just don't have time. I might go to Vail in March with some high school/college buddies; if anything, just hang out with them. If the snow sticks around, maybe we'll hit A-Basin in May/June if our travel plans continue to get hosed.

my family frequently go to vail and absolutely love it. skiing/boarding is out of the question for me due to old sports injuries i'd rather not exacerbate. maybe one of these days i'll get into x-country or shoeing, but for obvious selfish reasons right now i really hope the snow doesn't stick around this year! 😂

Will be there for 3 days next week to play 😃    GOT IT CHEAP to get there, stay and rental car.

I played Twin Peaks in Longmont today. Everything in Longmont will be open tomorrow also.

I got out and walked 9 at Fox Hollow today. Some snow on the ground but course was great. Got a little windy but overall it was very enjoyable.

if i were to go the traveling league route i'd absolutely want to play a practice round and walk the course before each tournament. you know, take some notes on lines and places to miss, figure out the best angles into the greens for pin positions, etc. i've never played most courses here so maybe this is a non-issue for you and others, i'm just curious to see how others would approach.

I probably won't plan on getting a membership for a range anywhere. Previously I would pay $100-200 for any discounted amount from the family sports range, but range balls are getting expensive and now they don't even offer a discount for qty. $5 for 42 balls no matter how many you get. Previously my focus on golf has been having a good golf swing. Going into 2021, I'm pivoting focus to having a good golf game and ignoring specific swing concerns. I'm dropping full swing range sessions to probably once a month and the majority of practice is going to be focused on short game and putting. To supplement the full swing stuff I'm attempting to average 27-36 holes of golf per week during the season. Last year I was playing 18 a week at most.

 

I did not consider game-planning rounds yet. I've played most of the courses before and probably will try to play them once before each league day though. 

 

Hoping it works out for me, but I know good planning doesn't usually result in good golf for me in the past. Hopefully the new approach to practice and play will help a lot. I also picked up Better Faster this Christmas to stay on track for practice going forward. 

 

Also, got out on the 26th at Commonground with friends and my FIL. I didn't play a great round at all, but I was so thankful to be playing in 55+ weather with good company. Some great views in the middle of Aurora/Denver. Next time any of you are out I encourage you to take a second and appreciate the weather (good or bad), nature, views, and good company! Golf is amazing and whenever I take a moment to remember that, I fall in love with it all over again. Piping my final 3-wood just short of the 18th green was just the cherry on top of the day. 😁

I lost track of this thread... I played Aurora Hills on Saturday.  For winter months, it may be on my rotation.  Its pretty flat with few trees... so it'll melt/dry pretty quickly from the looks of things.

Looks like they still have it. I just wish Lone Tree had something similar. Edited to add: looks like they do, but not as a lucrative of a deal.

do they use better quality balls in the summer? i've been there a few times this month and the balls have been terrible, but i figured they're probably just using the "winter ball" stock. 🤷‍♂️

Walnut Creek/Legacy Ridge range is cheap. If you buy/reload your range card in December when they have the half price sale it works out to $2.50 per 40-45 balls

They did get a new batch early in 2020, or was it 2019? Hard to remember. I assume they'll continue to get worse for another year or two before they get a new batch as well. I'll probably go with the $100 deal again for next year. They also used to to do a deal with golftec students  for range balls. I got a business card from one test lesson and was able to use it to get $200 worth of range credit for $100.

Played Saturday in Greeley at Highland Hills. Absolutely packed out there. Always a kick watching a ball bounce off a green like it landed on concrete. Changes up how you have to do almost everything.

Definitely is. Seeing the list of golf courses start shutting down as everyone looks for somewhere to play. I remember the weather being perfect in mid-late march and I ended up doing a lot of walking at Meadow Hills with the coyotes and the few people walking their dogs after everything shut down. I was just thinking about this thread the other day and how the 2021 one is going to pop up soon. While this year has been interesting to say the least, I hope that everyone has had at least something to look back and be thankful for.
