Colorado WRX 2020

Never been but I had something set for this year as a "business" trip (taking a couple of clients) A couple of round (Erin Hills / Sand Valley tracks) and the Friday Practice round of the Ryder Cup.

Looks like that is not happening now. Latest news is if they do hold the RC they said there will be no fans allowed.... Sorry but the Ryder Cup has to have fans, they are huge part of the event.. Hoping they reschedule it for next year.

I hear its a bit of driving about but the golf is 100% worth the effort.

You'll have to stay at Whistling (American Club is the name of the hotel) to get an advanced tee time, so factor in the cost of that. Although I don't know how they're doing that now with the closures and whatnot so worth checking out. Don't overlook the other courses on the property either (Blackwolf and Irish), as those are spectacular courses as well.

I'd also highly recommend playing Lawsonia and SentryWorld. Between the Whistling courses, Erin Hills, Sand Valley, and those two...you'd have one hell of a golf trip.

Had a group to play with on Sunday at Murphy Creek...but we all decided to cancel because of the forecast. Which left me scrambling to find a tee time for Saturday instead. Ended up getting one at Buffalo Run for $35.

One thing that confused me though...The Knolls was more expensive than The Dunes for some reason. $32 walking twilight for the Dunes, $34 walking twilight for the Knolls. When did that change? The Knolls side was always $20 to walk after like 3:00pm or whatever.

Lone Tree last week was and no tee time needed, or it seemed that way. You walk up the machine and use CC to pay for the balls you want. No one checking. I know on 9th Green I looked over at the range is as packed. They do have white lines on the ground to define the area for each person to hit from. I would say the way the lines are drawn for spacing they are getting 70% of it used Vs normal to meet spacing requirements.

My parents have been hitting balls at Family Sports. Their grass tees are open.

Definitely will let you know. Drive time is about 6 with an hour time change. I tend to fly through the quiet, windy roads of the last few hours so I usually make it pretty quickly. We're going with a foursome this time. I usually like to do 4 at Prairie Club and 12-16-20 at Wildhorse. Price point difference makes the Wildhorse trip a lot easier for most. The dining/drinking at Prairie Club is kind of annoying if everyone wants to be different (It's easiest to charge everything and then split it at the end).

I'll try to remember to take pictures and get a post up here when we get back. It's a pretty straightforward trip for the most part and I'm going with three guys who will want to push the limits as for as how much golf we can play which is always fine by me.

Dancin,

you would really like it up there. I recommend going on a weekend where you get Friday and Sunday at Dunes and then Saturday at pines. They are both really good courses but I would say the Dunes is like 85% of Sandhills. I had the opportunity to play two days at the actual Sandhills but might not ever get to go back. The Dunes course fulfills me in that sense.

Finally,

I've had more issues with Rattlesnakes out there than any other course especially when it's over 90 degrees. Hit um straight!

Thanks Krush. We are doing 4 also but just going for a Friday/Saturday so we can get 36 on both tracks. We leaving on Thursday and staying in Valentine that night so the first day we get the full 36...granted that was based on tee times left also. Interesting thing is that place fills up fast on tee times, even in today's world. Tee times were so "close" to not working honestly for 36 a day but we lucked out.

I agree price point wise Wildhorse is much more affordable.

Dancin I did not know you were thinking of hitting it up. Sorry I wish I had known I would sent you out the invite to see if interested, apologize.

Anyone playing Riverdale Dunes on Thursday at 10:39? I just joined a threesome. I need to get some rounds in other than Collindale in Fort Collins.

If anyone is looking for a decent price on an excellent range finder I found this today. Leupold is removing this model from the lineup as the 5i has the slope built in and not a face plate switch. (Exactly the same specs/options otherwise) https://www.rockbottomgolf.com/electronics/rangefinders/leupold-golf-gx-4i3-golf-rangefinder/

I had a 3i2 model. Loved it BUT someone decided they wanted it more then me......ripped right of the bag!!! Besides all the aspects, the one thing I love on Leupold's is you can hold the button down and pan around and it updates the distances as you pan. No pick and click,,,repick-click aspect. You can move around and get all information quickly. Hit the pin...then the lip of trap all at with one push... the trap I know I am going to hit a fat shot into =)** I should note I tested a Bushnell Pro XE last week/weekend as it seemed pretty sweet but was not impressed at all after one week with it. Read out was not crisp/ had dbl edge lines...fuzzy on read out, Unless in BR4 the informration could not even be read it. The elements function which is the selling point would work and not work randomly. I called Bushnell and they said "You have to let it sit out the case for 10-15 mins to adjusted to each location" Saturday after letting it sit for 2 hours at the range while hitting balls/putting it never came on....I get home take it out in the house it comes on??? Needless to say It went back last night....! I can say the Pro XE is not worth it honestly , seems like all hype....I only paid cost for it but it was still more then then one listed above and that was at cost..

I'm scary good with measuring pin distances with my $3 golf GPS app. I'm horrifically bad at actually utilizing the information provided.

I've mentioned it before, but I much prefer my golf GPS app over a laser range finder because it lets me determine the distance I need to hit a spot on the fairway off the tee box (or when laying up).

LOL. Dont get me wrong I really liked the way it felt and options iit has... reason I tried it. Your right I may have had a bad unit and if you do reviews it is HIT or MISS on getting a good one. Seems like the QC and CS is not good right now with Bushnell.

The one thing I did like about it but after using I changed my my mind is how it calculated the slope + element aspect. I would hit a 200 yard marker on the range (when it was working) and it would list 179-181 yards... okay 10% diff for elevation. Thing is I know I could not use my 180 club becuase I am sooooo used to what iron I would hit for 180 yards in Colorado. NOW if you played at sea level and came here then I can see it being very helpful but we are going backwards technically since we are so used to what we hit at those distances already.

I use a GPS app too for the reasons you mention @pseudoswede as I have the Arccos grips and use their GPS. It's awesome and does a lot of the same calculations with slope and wind. I just like having the additional knowledge of knowing the exact number to the pin as well. Not that it matters for me hacking it out there, but I just like knowing. It's weird.

I got a good deal on it so I'm not too worried, figured it was worth an upgrade. I had the V4 slope one and liked it a lot, but I dropped it and it broke Thankfully was able to return it and get a credit, so it went towards the XE. I play a fair amount up in the mountains so I think it'll be nice to have all the adjustments up there.

I played Riverdale Dunes today and the course conditions were really terrific. Greens maybe a wee bit slow but rolling really well. I haven't played the Dunes in 5 or 6 years. They have cut down a lot more native grass away from the fairway than what I remember. Good thing on #1 as I pushed my drive a wee bit (from the gold tees). Due to cart policy and social distancing I was odd person out on a cart so I had to walk. I wish I had a hot tub this evening but I made it walking. I suppose I have become to dependent of riding a cart I forgot how walking is able to control my game pace and walking up to my ball allows me to start computing the shot I want to hit before I get to the ball. Lastly, walking is good for me and along with regular exercise and healthy eating I might just be able to lose some weight. I'm planning on playing on Saturday morning at Collindale early and I will walk.
