New Titleist Irons Dropping in March

Thank you for this post with its screen-cap.

So I understand that the word is “no new T-MB replacement.” But it sort of looks like customizable (sets?!?) of U500 and U510 “custom irons.” I suppose that “U” (= U-tility) might rule out a full set.

Now that I have seen all the new Titleist irons in person, the 718 T-MB’s remain the most tempting candidates to replace my cherished 680’s.

There's already pictures and a huge thread about it on here. Not much else to tell, really. I think it feels way better than SM7 did, but that is just a bit of snobbery on my part coming from Nike and Mizuno wedges for almost the past 10 years, and a 2 season affair with the Glides with their massive vibration-dampening insert. Shape wise, it is a Vokey, grind wise, they are Vokeys. They have kept the same grinds as the SM7, shaft is the same from what I understand. I shrug my shoulders and say it again, it's a Vokey. They aren't going to mess with that formula just like they aren't going to mess with the styling of the Newport 2, they are iconic and don't really need changing.

I agree with what you said the T200 and T300 are some of he ugliest irons Ive seen in years next to some of those Wilson offerings. Titleist had gotten away in their GI irons not doing forged. They shouldve all along been doing forged body with thin steel face. Couldve just done a forged AP3 and not the T200 and T300. The T100S is a step that all other OEMs are going towards stronger lofted irons.

They have two of them, no? MP-20 HMB and 919 Forged.

Exactly what I thought, the forged are closer to the profile of the T100’s but the HMB’s have a lot more offset and thickness. The thickness didn’t bother me so much but the offset was reminiscent of the AP3 level. Very nice feeling, I almost bought them instead when my fitted told me to try them.

Im talking an MP guess they do have the MMC but of course only in righty. HMB is more of a long to mid iron replacement. T100 is more compact than the 919 forged.

the loft seems to have been a known issue for them since the AP3 came out and arguably even the AP1 before, as blending was really hard. 2 degrees equates to about 5 yards more carry at my swing speed and even more if you are faster. Literally leaving yards on the table, where most people had to go for a different brand or class of iron altogether. Just my opinion of course, I realize at standard lofts the T100’s are not putting anyone at a disadvantage and they feel great. That being said having all that and a couple more yards of carry with great turf interaction is winning recipe.

Well exactly if you swing 85-90 with a 7 iron ans carry it 170-175 you prob need more spin and loft. Most us mortals need more help especially as we get older.

I think titleist will sell a lot of these if they truly look just like the regular t100. All the “player” distance irons out now a days are all semi big. I would say P790s are the best looking but are massive vs T100s.

Totally agree with this, the P790’s are the best of the bunch to me in this category and they are a completely different beast than the T100’s looks and sole wise. Had I not just bought the T100’s I would 100% get the T100S in order in March.

I have read the turf interaction sucks when you bend them 2* strong. Anyone confirm!

It depends. If you're a sweeper it won't matter much as you typically do better with lower bounce irons anyways. Someone who is steep will notice they will dig a bit.

I played with the T100 for several weeks before having my pro bend them 1 degree. I didn’t notice any difference in turf interaction. I can’t imagine many guys who aren’t earning a living playing golf who would notice.

It looks closer to an all hybrid set than an iron set. Is there a set out there with a PW stronger than 38 degrees?

Those T400s are pricey: $219/club (steel shaft) | $234/club (graphite shaft). The 5-iron is 20º and the PW is 38º. The T100 is 27º and 46º, respectively.

All I am going to do is post this quote from the WRX front-page article. I think it's interesting that they purposely changed the # on the sole for mental assurance reasons, and admit to it. You're right, interesting take by Titleist. They admit to changing the iron number because testing showed people hit the same club better when it's stamped as a 5 instead of a 4. Transparent indeed. And they don't seem to care what anyone thinks except the golfers who play their clubs. Can't be mad at that

When Callaway came out with the Rogue X irons, they said the lofts were jacked and why. Kinda refreshing really, lol.

I think that is the whole idea, lol. OEM's aren't dumb, they know there is a lot of ego involved in golf, so they cater to that. :-)

Nope, same tech as before just updated. I just read the release again -- nothing ground breaking and definitely no tungsten or new special tech.

It makes no mention of that in the press release I got. It talks about the forward CoG but doesn't mention tungsten. 2/3 ain't bad on releases in this thread aren't bad I guess ;)
