Likewise, Schwartzel’s closing holes were out of this world. Maybe it was too bad for the Aussies poised to win, but Charl’s golf was superb, and birdieing the last 4 is noteworthy even if your name might not be.

Yep. Especially enjoyed watching him prepare on Tuesday and Wednesday in '16.

Birdied 3 of last 6, clutch play - definitely earned the win. Great story.

Bunch of guys collapse on 12 last year and people are giddy because it paves the way for Tiger, but it's such a shame that Jordan hits a couple bad shots? He had his chances, don't recall the green jacket having a "reserved for Jordan" sign on it that year.

Jordan's one of my all time favorites, but Danny was #12 in the world that week with the second best form in Europe after Rory. He wasn't a shock winner to those paying attention.

After winning Europe's biggest event last fall he's #32 in the world and some people in this forum probably still think he's fallen off the face of the Earth.

I watched the 2011 Masters the other night. Charl also had a miracle chip in from the right of #1 green and holed out for eagle on #3 to set up that finish. What a round!

See that’s the thing, most people on this board love golf and love watching great golf regardless of who it is. Willet played a great tournament. Why does Spieth deserve it, because he’s a bigger name?

Surely the ultimate "nobody" to come from no where and win a major was..............................John Daly. Anyone ever hear of him after his win.

I think that's the key. These guys are professionals. And the Masters gets more attention than any other event in the sport. In terms of ratings, media attention, etc. So it just does more for any winner longterm than any other tournament as far as future opportunities, sponsorships etc. It's not about which one the player holds in highest esteem, when you ask a professional which one they'd rather have, its a career question.

If they had asked which one major do you dream of winning the most, or which one is your favorite, then it becomes more personal, and maybe we'd have a lot more people chime in with one of the two opens (pga probably still comes in fourth regardless), but once you ask it in such a practical fashion, most people are gonna give the practical answer.

Actually, he won TWO majors (PGA and British). That's something only 16 other golfers have done in the modern era.

 

And yes, he won three other PGA Tour events and one Euro Tour event.
