PRGR Pocket Launch Monitor

Recommended Posts

27 minutes ago, MysteryV said:

This unit is not a launch monitor.  It's a speed gun with some distance approximations.

Spin has a ton to do with distance.  Launch angle has a lot to do with distance.

This does not read spin, nor does it read launch angle, thus it cannot give accurate distance.

Do not buy this unit if what you want / expect is a Skytrak or better.

Instead, buy this unit if you want to monitor your ball speeds and club head speeds with very good accuracy for the price.

Ballard's video confirms this, what tripod did you guys buy?

I have a similar problem to what EdMarks described in his initial comment. That is, I get readings almost 100% of the time but my 7 iron yardages are way to low. I have tried the tripod but did not help. Per Ed’s comment I tried moving the tripod a few inches off to the side, but still got bad yardage readings. The swing speeds seem reasonable but ball speeds are way low even on solid strikes.  This sounds like what PRGR told Ed.  That is, its not seeing the ball. Im fortunate, called the seller and they will take it back.

I recently bought a prgr and on the range whilst hitting balls it seems pretty good. But when swinging without the ball it seems miles out. My 7 iron swing speed whilst hitting balls is around 80mph but without the ball it’s about 55.

I was planning to use it with the super speed sticks. Is there a different set up technique when not hitting a ball? I’m currently placing it around 4.5 foot behind me for both

Anyone have a good estimate of ho much different the clubhead speed number on these is compared to Trackman?  I have done some speed training over winter and havent been on Trackman since September

I got 111 and 116mph on a friends PRGR today with my driver.  How would that compare to trackman?

got 96 on a 5 iron.

The ball speeds seemed realistic but the carry was very overestimated

I just used a new PRGR for the first time today and noticed that the practice swings without a ball read about 7-10 mph slower even on practice swings where I was trying to swing as hard as possible.  Is this a common / known issue?

If the practice swings without a ball are being read / picked up slower, are they at least consistent?  I bought the PRGR to start swing speed training, but want consistent numbers, even if they are a little slower than reality, so I can measure progress.

I used mine for the first time yesterday with the stack system and was having this exact same issue. My trackman driver numbers are anywhere between 105-110 mph and my driver swing with the PRGR and no ball were mostly in the mid 90s with only one getting to 100 mph. Has anyone been able to solve for this with the perfect device setup (i.e. number of feet away, raised a certain height, angle, etc.)? Thanks

I just got mine and it’s the newer model (HS-130a) vs. the old model (HS-120a). Every YouTuber that I saw giving reviews was talking about the older model. The HS-130a has a wider screen and displays four data elements (Club Speed, Ball Speed, Smash Factor, and Carry or Total Distance). I heard other reviews mentioning misreads with their wedges. The HS-130a has an improved radar that will measure approach shots from 10 yards or more and high lofted clubs. This is a major improvement from HS-120a to HS-130a. I’ve had no issues with my swing speed with or with a ball. I just started my over speed training and it’s great

Did anyone figure this out? I'm having similar problem with odd readings using speed sticks or swinging driver without a ball.

My PRGR black from last year has never come close to accurately showing clubhead speed without a ball. For example, it will read 55 mph for an iron that is 85 mph when hitting a ball.

It will also vary within a day on clubhead speed when hitting balls. Some times I can get a variation between 77-85 mph on the same iron with the same ballspeed.

The ballspeed does seem to be quite accurate. That is all I ever look at at this point.

I’m having this exact issue with mine… did you ever find a fix?

I got the latest model last week. Something seems questionable with the numbers

This is with 'not new' range balls. Surprised that would allow anything like 1.5 smash. Thoughts?

Is there any difference in the readings between the 120A and 130A?

This was a year or so ago.  I recently bought the 130 A and used it on the course yesterday for the first time.  Getting 106 driver swing speed numbers.  I probably am a little slower than last year but 5-10mph??

2021 on a friends 120 A  I was 111-116mph

2022 on my new 130 A  I was 104-107 mph

Play around with how far you set it back and if it has good line of sight. Make sure you set the right club.

I pretty much only rely on ballspeed as an indicator of the strike, which is known to be pretty accurate.

Cheers.

I was getting 164 ball speed last year on the 120A but its way down to 157 on the 130A.  From Trackman I am usually in the 160-165 ball speed area.

Take it to a Golf Mart / PGATSS / Edwin / etc and calibrate it against their LM if you don't trust it.

I'd hazard a guess that it's not machine though.  If it's been a year plus, you're mechanics have likely changed in some way if you're seeing a drop.
