Pressure Shift To Rear Side

In and of itself I don't think it does anything. Address a ball and do nothing other than shift your weight from foot to foot and you will observe that the club remains motionless. If shifting the weight doesn't move the club I can't see how has much influence.

On the other hand a pressure shift might be a consequence the wat some people take the club back. That certainly can work but you are left with the added problem of re-balancing yourself before you strike the ball.

Stack n Tilt I think was thinking along these lines. However I've never studied much of Stack n Tilt, so I could be off-base here.

Honestly it makes sense for a lot of players that are not looking to unlock their full potential of power and speed. You can hit it a long ways by doing a 3/4 punch shot and it's a lot simpler than shifting pressure.

To answer your other question, the players that are building pressure on the right foot, are using that to increase the pressure in their lead side during transition. It is necessary to unlock full speed / power potential. Think of it as your runway into your left side. Or your 3 steps before your long jump instead of a standing long jump. It's momentum.

With that being said. You still need a sound golf swing without transition to do this well and consistently.

yes indeed. i'm not expert here and have a basic understand from Tyler's site (where he has a couple of videos on it) and skimming through some of Dr. Kwon's work.

To me the pressure shift is more an effect than a cause - it is the result of a good swing - hard for folks with poor pivots and arm movement to get their pressure moving well - why we see folks hang back or slide or EE.

The importance is in speed creation (as already noted) and rotation - one creates a moment arm by having the COP move from behind the COM on the backswing to then create that moment arm during transition to delivery position by moving the COP rapidly toward the lead foot while the COM stays back. Three things - amount of force, direction of force, and duration all play an important role - folks, including myself, have gotten too hung up on the amount but the direction for example is just as important in that if you don't create the proper torques with your feet then you can either enhance or impede or ability to rotate. whew.

A simple way to understand a moment arm is to take a door - the knob is always located on the other side of the hinges - allows a relatively small force to swing the door - versus if the knob was located near the hinge when a much larger force would be required to swing the door. Simple terms, the moment arm in golf is the distance between the COM and COP and the amount of pressure applied to the lead foot.

Here actually a video - the small arrows on the legs represent the direction and force, the arrow coming out of the COP represents the combined moment and magnitude. The red dot is the COM.

Pressure movement is taught many different ways. Some better than others IMO. Josh Koch and Dana Dahlquist teach it as the very first thing that happens in the backswing before the club is taken away. They believe an early shift is not an effect of the pivot, but the root of what is needed to make the golf swing a free flowing athletic movement as opposed to a segmented series of positions. They believe the ground force reaction produced by an early shift before the body rotates is what helps "power" the backswing.

I think he's just talking about a pressure trigger. Wolfe is probably the most obvious current example. But lots of PGA golfers have talked about shifting a little pressure or weight to the lead side first, as a trigger to get some momentum to start shifting that pressure to the trail side. And that would happen prior to moving the club. Given that pressure shift is very minimal and not in the same context of talking about maximizing your pressure into the ground potential.

Many things, you are jaded on this subject because you have too much mass shift and mistake that for pressure shift.

It's one of the major differences between your average player and a PGA player.

Most average joes don't use the ground and create pressure.

Try to throw any ball keeping your feet planted.

Try to hit a baseball with a bat, without stepping into it.

Try to jump without bending your knees.

Would any of those be more powerful than the normal way?

Creating and shifting pressure is a big contributor to maximizing power. With that being said. It's also one of the last things, in my opinion, you should be focusing on in the golf swing. Proper mechanics will create ground pressure naturally, not artificially. I think the worse habit I'm seeing in some players now, is they are twisting their feet in the ground to create pressure. My opinion is that is not the right way to create ground pressure.
