Long Putter conversion(s) -- who's done one?

Hey guys,

I tried searching but alot of the threads got closed due to debating --

 

i bought a putter to experiment with - Scotty Futura X, and a 50" putter double bend shaft, and a winn split grip.

 

what lengths did you guys finish up with? how much weight did the head weigh (what worked??)?

Hi

Are just wanting a broomstick style putter or a face on putter.

I have converted several putters to broomstick length and in recent times made some for face on/side saddle putting.

Most broomstick putter heads are at least 400 grams and I have found a few near 500 grams. I have found that I like the weight about 500 grams. Experiment with what suits you.

I used some sheet lead about 2-3 mil thick that I cut into shape to fill holes in my putters. (Bobby Grace V foil and Odyssey Dart) I am currently working on a scotty Cameron futura putter (original model) I am having to bending extend the shaft for this.

Lie becomes a factor if not designed as a long putter. Once this is sorted then head weight. I have found double sided tape to hold lead in place while experimenting has been useful.

Also I am not sure of the legality of adding lead to the putter head. I know lead tape is permissible. An alternative is lead powder down the shaft and a cork to hold it in place. I do not have access to lead powder where I live. Hope this helps and all the best with the project. Some photos when you are finished?

Broomstick style putter, not face on. It has the ability to be made to a long putter as it has a 90* hosel hole. I bought a new split winn grip, and a 50" double bend shaft. I also bought 2 sets of 40g weights for it which would bump it from stock headweight by an additional 100g. Further, I could add another 12g by a tip weight if needed, and the sole plate can be removed to try to squeeze some more lead tape in there somewhere.

I got the putter and shaft in today- some updates.

 

With no weights a futura x is 304g (see pics).

 

With 2 40g and 2 20g weights I get to 424g. Should be pretty solid. Might buy another set of 40's if it isn't heavy enough to get it to 464g.

 

Shaft is up next for install once the paint dries -

You have done a great job so far. I have one of those SC putters and must look for a double bend long shaft to try out. I would add lead weight to bring up near 500 grams. (My preferred head weight). Please keep the photos coming. Inspirational! Thanks.

Getting out today to play- since my new grips aren't here yet, I fashioned something for the round today:

Just a comment but the bottom grip appears to have a flat side. Equipment rules require split grips to be round and not sure but at least 1 1/2 inches apart. Maybe 2 inches. I presume that grip was temporary while waiting for your new ones .

Also can you take a photo of where the shaft meets the head showing the double bend. Without head cover.

nice work, looks great! Great putter. You can easily adjust the MOI it has with different weights in the back.
