Golfworks Quick Set Epoxy... Fails?

So last fall I built a set of clubs to ship and leave at my inlaws in Florida to avoid bringing clubs back and forth all the time. I built them, tested them at a range near me and noticed like 4 of the heads would move slightly... Figured I mixed it wrong or something and pulled them and redid them and they seemed fine. Playing in florida over the winter a couple of them we starting to move again, now I dont remember if it was ones I reglued or not but still, it was weird. I just built some quarantine boredom clubs and hit them, same. thing, a few starting to come loose. Different tubes of the epoxy though, I threw out the one from the first set. However I did buy it at a golf galaxy retail store, so who know how long it was sitting there. happen to anyone else? Ive built 100's of clubs and not had a problem before.

I'm not trying to be a d*** but you're doing something wrong. Esp if you've built several hundred.

Ensure you are cleaning and abrad-ing the hosel AND the shaft. Clean both with alcohol. Are you sure it's not a 2:1 mix? Or are you sure you're mixing correct.

Building clubs isn't hard; there's only a few things to mess up on.

its 1:1. yea i know how to prep. But after reading other posts and reviews of the same thing happening with this epoxy i just wont use it again.

Its either your preparation or bad epoxy. Were these new shafts and heads? Confirm shaft tips and heads were prepared properly. If used shafts or heads double check your prep. Use proper mix of epoxy and thoroughly mix - at least 30 seconds. I take a long tee and swab some epoxy on it and wipe it in the hosel getting all corners. Then swab epoxy on the prepped shaft tip. Insert shaft in hosel twisting it while inserting. Align shaft and wipe away excess. Set the clubs aside and don't move them until curing time is complete. Then keep leftover epoxy on a piece of cardboard. After the full curing time try to stab the epoxy with a screwdriver. That will tell you the quality of the mix. I'm not a fan of the 5-minute epoxy. I always use the type that sets up in two hours and fully cures in 24 hours. I also buy the smallest quantity epoxy. After doing a set of clubs I'll keep the leftover epoxy maybe a month and then toss it if I have no other need for it. Not worth the grief for a couple dollars.

Any chance you have .355 shafts in .370 hosels? Just checking off all the boxes.

SAme exact thing with me. I am no pro but I am more than capable of using epoxy to build a club. I used some of this two weeks ago in the small packets. Squeezed out equal amounts, mixed completely and it never fully cured. I took the club apart and did it again, being even more diligent and got the same result. I checked the cardboard I mixed it on days later and it was not fully cured.

I got a different brand and it worked just like it should, no problem.

I’ve been using the Golfworks epoxy for 15 years and haven’t had any real issues. I’ve used both the 24 hour and the Tour Quick set, just make sure you prep and clean the shaft and inside the hosel. I also will weigh each part of the mixture to make sure I’m at a 1:1 ratio.

everything was prepped properly, its not the wrong diameter shaft and the mix was fine. The leftover mixing cup swab appeared to be set well too. Oh well, easy to fix but never using that epoxy again.

I remember a time a few years ago when I started to dabble in club building where I didn't sand the tips enough and this happened to me. They were sanded but still some of the "chrome plating around the shaft tips. The epoxy broke itself loose at the shaft and was still perfectly bonded do the hosel.

If you did everything right, why come here to ask, since you already know the answer? If you used two separate sources, the problem was/is you. If you'd have said it happened with one tube, okay, it was a rogue batch. Two separate tubes - not the epoxy.

After reading this thread the casual tinkerer may want to add a step to their re-shafting. Mix a small amount of epoxy and let it cure on your bench for the proper time. Then if the epoxy passes the "stab" test proceed to change shafts. All you're cost yourself is one day but you eliminated a possible foul-up requiring you to start all over again due to bad epoxy.

The only thing was was asked was if it had happened to anyone else using this product. two tubes of the same product bought at the same place and never had any previous problems with any epoxy regardless of the brand. After reading other posts and reviews of the product and the same failure happening, im just going to use a different product.

I've used GW epoxy for decades. I always heat cure and I never use shafting beads. If the fit is loose, use a shim. More people have ruined a shafting job with beads than anything else I know of. Used properly, they are okay. But few seem to use them properly.

Never had a problem with golfworks epoxy. I reshafted from the same tubes, a year apart.
