Bumping this thread as I'm beginning my search for a club in the Westchester area. Would love if any of you could share some details about the clubs in the area. Have a tour with Bonnie Briar coming up and have spoken with Pelham as well. Would love to hear about the dues/process for Wykgal, Sunningdale or Metropolis if possible.

Sunningdale and Metropolis are both Jewish clubs. I don't know much about Sunningdale, but Metropolis does have some non-Jewish members. Jewish clubs tend to have higher annual dues and will often chop an annual loss amongst the membership, so you could get assessed at the end of the year or fiscal year. Metropolis is a very nice course, and Craig Thomas, the head pro, is a good teacher and a great person.

Wykagyl almost certainly has a waiting list. If you are of the ethnicity for Sunningdale or Metropolis, you might have difficulty joining Wykagyl. Very, very nice course and facilities though.

Reviving this thread! For convenience reasons would love to explore joining clubs that are:

  • no frills/affordable/golf-focused
  • within 30-40mins driving from williamsburg brooklyn

Can I get a vibe check on the Long Island clubs Lake Success, Deepdale, Fresh Meadow, North Hills, etc. headed into 2025 // connect with any current members? Any other clubs you'd recommend?

Don't want to burst your bubble, but Deepdale is very exclusive and not a place to be linked to members via golfwrx.

Lake Success was the original Deepdale course and actually have a charity round to use there from last year. They advertise membership on their website, so very open. Close to the city as you know. Check it out.

Don't know about others, but "affordable" and Long Island need to be defined.

Like others have mentioned both Deepdale and Fresh Meadow are exclusive and invite or sponsor only. North Hills is a country club vibe and Lake Success is golf club vibe.

Didn't want to start a new thread. Can anyone help me out with club recs in WESTCHESTER? Here are my quirky needs:

(1) Not interested in networking, exclusivity, cache, new friends, etc. Just want to golf. Don't care about pools, tennis courts, banquets, restaurants, bars, clubhouses, facilities. I will be in and out to golf.

(2) Want it to be inexpensive as possible. Not saying I won't pay up, but lower is better if POSSIBLE.

(3) Has grass tees at the range and a solid practice area.

(4) Decent ability to get a 4 hour round in, not expecting it to be empty given the above.

(5) Not interested in jumping through hoops - as mentioned earlier in the thread, many of the nicer clubs expect you to be an existing member of certain establishments/temples and to have a history of documented charitable giving. I would not qualify for these.

I think #3 makes it tough, otherwise something like Rye Golf Club might be perfect. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Harrison Meadows Country Club. Relatively inexpensive for the area. They have a grass range for Fridays and weekends and mats for weekdays, although it is limited flight balls. There is also a putting green and separate short game area.

I only played on weekdays and typically played 9 holes. The course usually wasn’t busy, so a sub 4 hour round during the week was no issue. I have no idea what weekends are like.

How would you compare Harrison Meadows to Hampshire Country Club? In terms of practice area, range, price? If you know.

How'd you like the course?

Thinking about options for next year.

I liked the course. I only played the front 9 when I went out, so I have no knowledge of the back 9.

conditions were pretty good. Not pristine but certainly decent. I thought there was a lot of variety amongst the holes. Only 1 blind tee shot and no blind approach shots, which I don’t care for. I personally thought the course played a little tougher than similarly difficult (by slope) courses, which was nice when traveling. To me, it played a little harder because errant shots were often penalized, which I think is appropriate. I feel like it is cheating if a bad shot is not penalized because it lands safely in an adjacent fairway. That didn’t happen often at HMCC.

"Affordable" needs to be clarified, as the clubs you listed---Deepdale, Fresh Meadows and North Hills---fall in different price brackets.

I know a few younger (mid-30s) guys at North Hills, and when I considered joining a couple years ago the dues + initiation were palatable.  Muttontown is a bit further east and more expensive.

A lot of clubs in the sub-$20k annual dues category have waitlist and/or just hiked fees.  May want to immediately move on anywhere that's welcoming junior members on favorable terms.
