At what point do you file a dispute?

I posted a WTB ad awhile back and a few weeks later a guy hit me up saying he had what I wanted. I asked him to send pics and a price and he did. I sent money and he said he would ship the next day. A couple days later I messaged him and he claimed to have shipped that day but of course he left the shipping receipt with tracking at home but would get it to me. Another couple days go by so I message again and he says he will send tracking ASAP. After a couple more days still no tracking info. Should I just go ahead and file the PayPal dispute or give him more time?

You should file right away. I would have filed after the second time you asked and it wasn't sent to you right away.

And I would invite the seller to this thread ASAP.

Usually lack of tracking is because work shipped it through their shipping/receiving dept, the wife, dog, kids, secretary, personal assistant, or goldfish shipped it and it’s their fault. Occasionally, the dog ate the receipt or aliens came down and beamed it up.

If the seller can’t get you something as simple as tracking, file your dispute right now! With cell phones, I usually send tracking info from my car In the parking lot of the post office. I have everything right there and it only takes a minute. If sellers can’t do that, there’s something wrong.

I'm assuming you paid Goods and Services so you can file a PayPal dispute/claim?

So based on your post (it would help if you gave dates), it's been around 6 days since he said that he shipped?

Depending on how close you guys are located to each other, I might give it a couple more days until it's clear that the item would have arrived by then.

But I guess you may as well open a case and then if the item arrives you can close the case.

Yes... Send him a link to this post and file the dispute if he can't get you your tracking. If it shows up, you can close it.

It took a week to get tracking for something that was said to ship next day (should’ve been Monday) thanks to a mod escalating the issue. We'll see what happens.
