Gary Woodland's driver this week?

very nice looking woods there, love the stealth look. If they have the ballspeeds to match the likes of TM and Callaway then we may be talking about a WS driver that may actually sell lol.

Not yet. The driver vs driver shows really made Wilson look bad. They would be much further along if they didn't give the impression that they needed arm chair designers to create a driver for them. HORRIBLE look for a company trying to make it's way back into the mainstream. Whoever made that call should be fired.

Honestly, I feel they should be strictly a wedge and iron company with the odd 8802 release for nostalgia's sake. Their woods have been dreadful for years.

Wilson's last tour win with driver was Troy Merritt at the 2018 Barbasol with a D300. Last major was Padrig Harrington at the 2008 PGA with I believe a Dd6+.

It was a joke of a show. But I watched every single episode. It got their name out, but never once did I even consider demoing a driver from that show. But it was entertaining. Honestly, I would have liked a season 3 of the show during the economic shutdown. Would have given me more to do in the evenings. Haha

If my memory serves me correctly I think in the modern era Wilson drivers have been used to win 4 majors I believe. Payne Stewart at the PGA, John Daly at The Open, and Padraig at The Open and PGA. I'm not sure what Paul Lawrie had in the bag when he won the Open, or Faldo for that matter. Still have won more majors than other companies irons. They make really good product just not as popular as others.

It was an awful show lol. Wilson was obviously doing it for the branding but IMO it did more harm than good. The drivers were terrible and didn't sell, and the R&D guys basically got thrown under the bus for being so incompetent that they needed to scan the country for garage mechanics to create something worth selling. It was an amazing fail.

I agree it was a fail but was more a way to get their name out there with the average golfer who buys stuff like the stand alone putter etc. It was just a marketing tactic that ended up not working

It got people to the webiste looking at other products. Cortex was overpriced but if you bought one off price its a beast. I still play Triton. Its loud..... but its long. I think they are moving in the right direction. We dont know whats going on behind the curtain but its failry easy to see a STAFF line of products coming together. They have it in ball, blade iron, wedge, and soon I bet Driver

I thought that as well....until I heard the overwhelming number of drivers they sold because of the show(s) I cant remember the exact number but it was like 5 times the number that they normally sell so instead of 20,000 drivers they sold 100000...As much as some thought it was a joke not all of us our golfwrx’ers...and it got them a ton of exposure

I thought and still think the show could be really really cool. They just botched it will none golfing judges and stupid gimmicks. When they actually show them designing. I thought it was great.

yea, wilson knows they can't compete with Taylormade/Callaway even if the tech/performance is there. They had to try a different route

No way they sold even CLOSE to that. I'd also like to see the avg price point because companies claim to sell a lot of something only to find out the product sold out once it went on clearance.Easy to sell more when you sell virtually nothingIt got exposure but not the kind you want in serious circles which are the players that actually buy most of the clubs. ALL local shops around me sold 0 Cortex drivers and I've never seen one in someones bag.

If i owned Wilson I would immediately cancel that show and instead focus my time and effort on making a product that tour players want to use. Gary seems to like the new Prototype so they have some momentum. If he wins with it and they can release it then they might have a shot at joining to fray.

They may have temporarily sold more drivers due to the show but IMO it was a big disaster for their brand image. The entire concept just gave off the vibe of "Welp, screw it, we give up. Who wants to design our next driver?" That's not exactly the sort of thought you want to have about a company when you're dropping $500 on a new driver. For a product that only costs $20 sure it might work and it's no big deal, but it just doesn't feel right for a $500 product.

Woodland bagging their woods is great rehab for the brand.

Exactly. They literally made themselves an even bigger joke by doing the show. Especially within the OEM world. If Woodland keeps it in the bag and wins it will help repair some of the damage done.

The spin on that is that Wilson sold out. That is true. That does not mean the stores that ordered them from Wilson sold out. As far as world wide driver release goes 20k drivers is NOTHING!!!!. The store I work at part time got 6 of them. We sold 1 at full price, the other 5 sat there for months until they went 50% off. 3 of those at 50% off are still there collecting dust.
