UST Recoil Wedge Proto advice

I've never really paid much attention to my wedge shafts until now....

Currently have Recoil 95 Prototype F4 shafts softstepped 1x in my irons.

For my wedges (52,56,58), I'm looking into the recoil wedge proto shaft but need some guidance.

In terms of flex, would you recommend F3 or F4 in the wedge proto?

From what I understand, most seem to gravitate towards softer flex in wedge as most are used for delicate green side shots. However, my 52* wedge will most likely be for full swings.

Swing speeds and loading is so low it's almost non-existent no matter what flex you choose with most green side shots, so stiffness usually doesn't matter for most around the green. It's all about weight. Pick the flex for full swing shots for that club or maybe 3/4 depending on what's more common on your approach shots.

While I have you here though... one more question if you don't mind.

 

As mentioned, I softstepped my irons. Recoil 95 prototypes have individual shafts for each iron except when you get down to the short irons.

So 9 iron shaft went into PW head (43*)

wedge shaft went into GW head (48*)

I have an extra recoil 95 prototype wedge shaft. Does it make sense to install that into my 52* wedge since it will be a full swing club. Keeps it consistent throughout.

Or, should I have taken a 9 iron shaft and installed into the GW head (48*) so that it's softstepped?

 

And use the wedge proto shafts for 56* and 58*?

@johnnybogey There is no right or wrong way to deal with that issue. Either way can work and it's even hard to say if you could tell the difference between the two approaches. Personally I don't think it's worth the trouble of reshafting the 48*. If there is no shaft in the 52* I'd use the extra shaft in it. If it's already shafted up with something else, what's in it now?
However, when I look at that, a lot of it comes down to choice in playing length progressions in the lower end of the set. The shafts are designed to around the concept of a 1/2" length changes and the corresponding head weight change that goes with swing weighting that length difference. So from that standpoint, after you plan out the lengths, it makes sense to drop a shaft for each 1/2" - whether it takes two clubs to get that 1/2" change or just one.
Some like to have the GW shafts match the SW and LW and use a heavier shaft in those clubs.
Some like the GW to match the rest of the iron set, and use a heavier shaft in just the SW and LW.
Some like to use the same shaft in all the wedges.
it's purely a matter of personal preference and can take some time testing to figure out what will really work best.

For now, I think I'll keep it simple. Use the extra recoil 95 prototype for the 52* and pick up Recoil wedge proto's F3 (115 gm) for the 56 and 58*.

I also use Recoil 95 in my irons and happy with that. I had standard steel shafts in my wedges that I just upgraded with Recoil Proto Wedge F4 shafts. I am very happy and excited about how they perform. The touch, feedback and spin around the greens is so much better now, it seems the tip is slightly softer then with steel and this helps with tempo and feedback.

Johnnybogey did you mount yours and can you share your experience?

I instead installed some extra Recoil 95 prototype shafts into my GW and SW and like them so far. Going to see how these perform long term and then decide if I want to pick up the wedge proto's.

I have added a couple of more round with my new wedge shafts and I think it is the best upgrade I have done in a long time.
