SL2 is not waterproof (according to tech support). As it does not have off-switch, battery keeps draining in the GPS mode (not normal mode).  It has Bluetooth capability and connects to phone but no way to add/update software or courses.

Its new, assumption is that software updates will come in the future. Hopefully they can fix the on/off switch thing with a software update; I agree that is a minor nuisance. It has a few kinks but the performance benefits are better than any other option imo

I owned a Garmin Z82 and currently am using a Bushnell Pro XE.

 

The Garmin Z82 was fantastic but the main drawback for me was the battery. Not that it was poor. It would usually last at least 2.5 rounds. It was the constant charging I had to do. For some its negligible but I found it more tedious than needed and I just wanted something that I could conveniently take out and use. 

 

The Bushnell Pro XE is also fantastic and is ready to go right out the case and I found it very accurate. Also the BITE tech was very useful. I highly recommend. 

 

It honestly depends what you're looking for but I stuck with the Bushnell. If it's good enough for the pros, its good enough for me.

Thanks. This is great feedback! I always like to hear what others experiences are with using a device before I buy something. Think I’m gonna stick w my 20 year old Bushnell.

Went the old fashioned route and reached out to Garmin. 

 

They confirmed the Z82 does not connect to the app and share of the data that handheld rangefinder would. They said it’s because the rangefinder falls asleep between uses and the GPS data is not in real time like a handheld.

Concept of the range finder is cool, but for someone who plays the same course all the time, the Bushnell X3 + App gets the job done just the same. The occasional time I need extra carry info, I check out the app. 

 

If you play a different course every round, are very precise with trying to hit green ridges as targets, or are really building a yardage book for a high end tournament, I understand the benefit of the Garmin Z82.
