Shorts that don't show swamp-a$$?

Not a joke topic: My rear has a sweating problem. In the hot days of summer, whether riding or walking, I will sweat through crack, seat, crotch. Becomes very unsightly in pretty much any shorts that aren't black. Watching tour events you don't really see this problem, either because they're doing something I'm not, or fancy camera work. I don't get embarrassed about it really, it is what it is, but though it worth asking. I'd like to be able to wear colors other than those really dark in the summer.

 

Does anyone have any shorts they've found that do a really good job masking the sweat or not soaking through? Other thoughts? I've tried powders and all that, helps but not enough.

How about simple black Callaway/Under Armour/Ping pick your brand, shorts?

As DavePelz4 mentioned, most of the modern (non cotton) fabrics work well, and color choice has impact as well.

UA IsoChill impressed me last night for their first wear... Very cooling (88* with 90% humidity) and they didnt even feel close to holding any moisture

I remember watching the US Open, where Loren Roberts was contending, and, you could see his pants were drenched. Moisture wicking/quick drying is key (underwear included). Have you tried board shorts, also, some patterns work well to hide sweat.

I’ve never had any problems with RLX shorts but I am not sure that I am dealing with the same amount of moisture if I can put it that way. Thinking of other options, whatever is underneath the shorts might need to be looked at. If it is as bad as it sounds, give the Under Armour boxer jock a go or even cycling shorts. I would think that would help when it comes to moisture wicking before it gets the chance to get to the shorts.

I used to play minor league baseball. There’s a reason almost every locker in the club house had a container of Gold Bond powder in it. Use it liberally. It might be an option to open up a broader color range for you.

Wouldn't moisture wicking underwear just move more sweat to the shorts? Moisture wicking means it brings the sweat to the surface of the material (presumably so it can evaporate in the air).

The answer is "not cotton" and dark. Ive always felt that lighter colors (tho not white) show sweat stains more prominently. I hate black, so most of my "go to" golf shirts and hats (I sweat profusely from my head) are Navy.

I forgot to add - look for golf shorts with a water resistant finish. The adidas Ultimate 365 is an example. Pour a little water on them, and, it just runs off.

Someone else said it - Under Armor Iso Chill fantastic in hot humid weather. Just don't use a fabric softener on them or dryer sheets

Definitely try some synthetic wicking underwear...I would try several different kinds. They do wick but they dry very fast, and you won't feel nearly as wet as with cotton. Synthetic undies, synthetic shorts.

I only wear synthetic moisture wicking briefs and only wear synthetic moisture wicking shorts.....just wondering if some with similar problems have found certain shorts better than others. Will have to give the UA chill shorts a try.

Lululemon Commission Warpstreme. Expensive but top notch quality with excellent pockets. Fit is slim, very comfortable.

I just bought a pair of Amazon brand golf shorts. Played Sunday in 97 degree high humidity. Sweated through them by the third hole, I walked. They were VERY wet. But not discolored.

Since I'm an old guy, and with my tongue planted semi-firmly in cheek, I'm going to go off the board and offer you youngsters some sage old F*RT advice.... WOOL. I know that may be mind blowing for people that have grown up in the era of "performance fabrics" but us old-timers who grew up with polyester in the 70's still know that the one secret they never tell you about synthetic fabrics (polyester) is that at the end of the day...THEY'RE HOT. Find some shorts in a tropical weight wool...Merino wool is a good place to start and give it a try. Wool is breathable and will allow the steam from your butt to escape before it turns into a puddle. For the condition the OP is describing, he needs something breathable and wicking....not just wicking. Cotton and Linen are breathable too but they can't hold a candle to wool for wicking.

One other point to make in defense of wool. When I see people in the forums talking about socks...the ones people recommend the most seem to have more wool and less synthetic content. Things that make you go "hmmmmmmmm"

Many surf brands make an "amphibious" short meant for walking around town or wearing in the water. These are great for golf. Think brands like Billabong, Ocean Pacific, Hurley, etc.

lululemon shorts in warpstreme or bonobos highland tour. I have same issue as you and those are only shorts I wear when its any bit of warm out to prevent it. I save any of those cotton based ones I have for the 50 degree days

I had a pair of Hurley amphibious a few years ago, but I could not see playing golf in them. Have not checked out Quicksilver, Billabong.

Adidas makes some great lightweight, stylish golf shirts (Ultimate 365 are great)

Body Glide - apply to taint areas before going outside - helps with chafing (some say anti-perspirant/deodorant does the same thing)

Powder (Fromonda) works OK but does not last like body glide

Wicking has its limits and you have reached them. You need breathable AND wicking. Most of the wicking polyesters are not very breathable.

Had the same problem when I wore cotton shorts and cotton underwear. I gave up both. I wear Jockey polyester boxer briefs and various brands polyester shorts both light and dark colors. That pretty well cured my issue. These days, if clothing contains cotton or modal...it is a no go for me.

Wool fibers absorb moisture and hold it in their core, leaving you dry until over-saturation, it also breathes well, like cotton. I use and recommend Saxx' Blacksheep model of boxer briefs. A quick drying pair of shorts over top can handle the limited 'overflow'.
