Ocean City golf packages

Hey all, looking for recommendations on 3 rounds, 2 nights accommodations in OCMD. Looking to go in mid October.

what are the best places to book such a trip? Best three courses to play? Are there any discounts to be found? Any hotels in town offer reduced rates for golf? Looking on google at some of the booking places and all of their online booking services seem to be down for maintenance.

Thanks for any advice!

As stated above I've done both. Pam's always puts together a competitive package. I did the Ruark package a few years ago. Each round was discounted and you got a coupon for food at the Ruth's Chris Steak House located at Glenriddle. I don't know the specifics of their current package. Can't go wrong with playing any of the Ruark courses (Lighthouse Sound, Rum Pointe, Glenriddle (36 holes), and Nutters Crossing in Salisbury).

https://oceancitygolf.com/ Has good research info. Pam's is the biggest, with a nice booklet.

If you have a big group and it's your first visit, consider a packager.

If you have up to a foursome, you can book it yourself, hotel + golf separately.

I suggest staying around the 60th St bridge or further north, unless you like being near the crowded boardwalk.

Some of the best: Bayside            Bear Trap Dunes  Baywood Greens             Eagles Landing

Lighthouse Sound         Rum Point              OC Newport Bay

We have done many trips to OCMD. The first few years we used Pam's. After that we booked the Ruark triple play and played Rum Pointe, Glen Riddle and Lighthouse. (One year we played Nutters Crossing and it was awful.) Glen Riddle has 36 holes so its a good spot if there is a day you are hoping to play 36. Rum Pointe has an apartment above the clubhouse, or some of town homes at Glen Riddle were available for rent. It was significantly cheaper than using Pam's - however this was summertime. Not sure what the rates would be in October or if the Triple Play is as discounted (since I assume the hotels/area aren't as busy with vacationers).

By the way, Lighthouse Sound is the best rated course down there and has spectacular views. Rum Pointe is my favorite course to play. If you are coming from North of OCMD, Baywood Greens in DE has rave reviews and prob worth a stop. The Glen Riddle courses are very good (most in my group prefer War Admiral, although Man O'War tends to be a little more forgiving). I haven't played Eagles' Landing in many years but that was a course the group liked as well.

Okay guys, thanks for the advice, I think I’m going to end up booking myself after pams for back to me. Seems I can do it myself for about $50 less per person booking myself.

That said, lighthouse is apparently booked up that weekend. What would be your 3 courses of choice? I was thinking war admiral, rum pointe, and baywood. Alternatively, rum pointe, baywood, bayside? What say you?

Yikes, then I don’t want to spend $100/round to lose 2 dozen tour b’s. Baywood comes recommended, as well as rum pointe and they are VERY fair rates that week. $50 for prime tee times at baywood. Is there a third course you’d recommend that is nice but maybe not as much of a challenge as bayside? Would either GR fit the bill for a few mid to high handicappers?

Oh, also to follow up, Pam gave me a quote on “best value” courses and lodging, to include rounds at river run, Newport and eagles landing. I can book the times and hotel myself at baywood, rum pointe and bayside for example (bayside being $100/round) and still come in less than her package. Maybe they have a better deal with a bigger group, but for just a few guys it’s cheaper to book alone, but it was worth the couple emails to compare prices.

Our group has been doing a 3 night / 3 round trip there every fall since 2000. Our Group recommendation would be to skip River Run and Newport and do Eagles Landing with Rum Pointe and Baywood Greens. We mostly live North of OC so we do Baywood on the last day which shortens the drive home after the round. We use Harrison Group Golf and stay at Holiday Inn at 17th street. The boardwalk and restaurants are generally not crowded when we go, playing Sun, Mon & Tues. the second weekend of Oct. Sometimes you run into the end of an event like the corvette weekend, but they leave Sunday so its not an issue. A couple years there was an 'unsanctioned' rice burner rat rod group there on Sat night & Sunday that were pretty annoying with the traffic and restaurant crowding but we haven't seen them the last few years.

Edit to add......Bayside is a nice course but very tough, move up a tee box for the first time playing it. The green / bunkering design is fantastic - Jack did a great job! I like it but the rest of our group of challenged golfers doesn't. One year we played it, real windy & I was the only one to break 90 and the rest were over 100. The group vote each year had us avoiding it until last year and everyone moved up a tee which helped their enjoyment level immensely!

Also, we think another premium course in the area, Peninsula, is one we don't need to go back and play again. While its in great condition it is a development golf course with too many houses up against the holes. Not worth the package upcharge in our opinion

Baywood is good option. Its about an hour outside of Ocean City. The courses I seem to play most in OC are Glenriddle (both courses) and Rum Pointe. I used to enjoy Bay Club (36 holes) but they closed a year or two ago. A shame. Bayside gets your attention from the very first hole. 380-400 yards, tee shot over a large pond typically into a breeze. The direct line to the green then puts you inline with a big fairway bunker. Avoid the bunker and add maybe 30 yards for the approach. On most courses the first hole is a gentle starter. Not on this Nicklaus design. I don't recall the course being a ball eater but you do need to play smart. A good test of golf.

I think Pam's might be good with a big group, with a lot of changes. They try to get the price down with grouped course packages, lower cost courses and/or lower end lodging.

Three Ruark courses booked together will save some $$. From: Lighthouse, War Admiral, MOW, Rum Point.

The location of Baywood Greens make it good for the 1st day if playing on arrival from the north or on the last day if headed home north.

Also note that OC has lower hotel + golf rates Sunday PM golf through Thursday, if you can avoid Fri-Sunday.

I just checked our sched for this fall....Rum Pointe, Eagles Landing & Baywood. The trip is set up through Harrison Golf Group. Cant wait.....I hope the weather is as good as last year. A few years ago there was a near miss hurricane that moved through Friday and we arrived Sat. There was sand dunes on the boardwalk, the wind was still blowing real hard, whitecaps in the hotel pool! There were 25 mph winds as we played Lighthouse on Sunday....I still remember hitting 3W (225 yd club) on the one par 3 facing the bay...about 175 yard hole....and coming up short! Great Fun on those trips!!!
