BTW I heard that Nolan Ryan lives on the course. Pretty cool to catch up with the Ryan Express.

What’s the scoop on onion creek these days?  Seems like a good value for what you get… looks like they’re modernizing the clubhouse and the courses are in good shape.  I hear avg age of membership is dropping… is there a good men’s league and players culture there..?

Onion is a good spot.  The course is generally in pretty good shape and came through the storms really well this past winter.  I have no idea what they are doing with the clubhouse, but doubt it would add much value to the club.

 

The club is definitely getting younger and that may or may not be good depending on how you like your golf.  Tons of drinking on the course.  Not necessarily in a bad way as people behave themselves reasonably well, but it's definitely not a golf first club.  Mens league is good and big, but all events are 6 hour rounds so I generally avoid them, but they almost always fill up.

Not sure if right spot but what are people's thoughts on Barton Creek as a guy's golf trip destination?  It seems very pricey to me for what it is but not sure if it is worth it?  Resort is quoting $2800 for hotel and 3 rounds of golf.  Considering this is more expensive than what we paid in Kohler and Kiawah I am very hesitant.  Thoughts?  This would be for a trip in October.

In no way is Barton Creek going to be worth $2800 for 3 rounds. Great courses but that is just my opinion. You can do Pebble, Spy, Spanish for cheaper. You could do Arcadia + Forest Dunes cheaper. 

 

If you want to come to Central Texas for golf, just get an AirBNB and hit up the public courses not Barton that I think are just about as good. Falconhead, Vaaler, Bandit, La Cantera, TPC, etc. More driving granted.

I seriously doubt GH is invitation only.  It is a lower tier club and not even close to the quality at UT club.  If you are looking for a value club, go for GH.  If you are looking for a top quality golf course, go to UT club.

Pebble is over $1000 per night just for the lodge, than add almost $700 for golf with a caddie.   There is no way to get three days on Pebble for $2800.

 

I don't know how you get $2800 for three days at BC.  Rooms are less than $300 per night and green fees this month are $285.  They also have stay and play packages.  That doesn't get you to $2800.

That is what they told my buddy when he called.  Maybe he misunderstood.  We nixed it and are going to either Charleston or FL now.  Thx for the replies guys!

Barton Creek is not worth that, but I believe they are trying to charge it. They increased prices since the renovation. October in Austin includes ACL two weekends, F1 one weekend and UT has a home game the other weekend. Rooms are probably $400-$500 or more per night with taxes and fees. Golf rates are going to be premium season rates, probably around $250 for the Fazio courses.

Barton Creek is now $125,000 for a non-transferable membership and they have a waiting list.

ACC and Spanish Oaks will be similar, and both have a waiting list.

My guess is that Great Hills is more like $20,000

Low end clubs in austin have recently raised initiation rates…

Great Hills $55k 

Lost Creek $25k 

Barton Creek $150k

I don’t understand why anyone who likes golf would ever want to play at Lost Creek it’s a slow marsh.   Lakecliff is a solid mid level option

Austin Country Club Members - What is your opinion of the clubs ability to meet their demand for golf?  Between Dell Match Play and getting rid of tee times, it sounds like demand is out pacing supply. Curious to get member opinions on the state of the club.  Are able to utilize golf facilities as much as you would like?

Cimmaron greens IMOP are FUBAR.   Criminal bc they where just redone within the last 24 months.

Hills of Lakeway at $50K seems like a pretty good bargain if you are willing to drive a little further west than Barton Creek, River Place, UT Golf club etc.

I’ve been a Lakeway member and am a Lakecliff member, and if you’re looking for a golf club rather than a country club, it’s Lakecliff hands down. The new-ish owners have been fantastic.

In terms of value.. don't think you can beat the membership to the municipal golf courses - $0 initiation fees and includes Clay, Kizer, Lions, MoWilly and Grey Rock (for an additional fee)

Hey all just looking for information on country clubs near Austin. The family and I are looking to move to the area and we're interested in joining a country club. Currently looking at the Georgetown, Leander, and Round Rock areas but open to others. Not sure how realistic it is but we're looking for family friendly clubs (i.e. particularly swimming pool) with initiation fees around $5K - 8K and monthly payments around $600. 

My wife is from College Station so we're both not too familiar with the area. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes and they're rolling great. The fairways are suffering some (dry/firm) from LCRA water restrictions. On the flip side, the clubhouse/patio expansion is coming along great.

 

They're keeping their cap at 300 members (they're floating pretty close to that now) and continue to not require tee times to play.
