Bryson Being ‘Shamed’ by the Golf Community

Recommended Posts

Looked like an Ohio State linebacker of that era. Arnie's Army called him fat boy. I think they were also mean to John Daly before he had major personal problems. Daly was one of the most gifted golfers.

I like Bryson. He marches to a different drummer. I hope his extra weight does not hurt his health. I like his whole Moe Norman setup including the putting.

BTW - Bryson is 3 shots off the lead going into Sunday at a major. He must be doing something right.

I'm not a fan of Bryson for all the accurate descriptions detailed above, but I do appreciate his desire to expand his game in any way possible. Bulking up and driving the ball a mile is only beneficial if he can keep it in relative play, and he's shown he can do exactly that. Respect.

To me, he's a man in search of who he is and what he wants to become both as a golfer and a man. He's a bit lost and unfortunately is going through this on a massively public scale. I truly hope he comes out the other end in a place of peace and tranquility.

This 'professor' stuff has got to stop though. He took a few classes in college that were tough. So did I and many of you, yet no one is calling us a professor. (Apologies to any real professors out there.)

I caught that too. And applauded the effort . All jokes aside I think he suffers from the constant thought stream or “ stream of consciousness “ that a lot of us crazy folks suffer from. I’ve tried to tell People that it’s 99 times out of 100 just an inward convo with yourself that comes out. It’s not directed at anyone but you. You can be self aware and still struggle controlling that From coming outward. And that is part of the socially awkward deal that most have going on. It’s like there’s a blurred line between what you should say and what you shouldn’t say , and sometimes you just get it wrong. While other people seem to know what never to say outloud. And are very judgmental when commenting on “ how belligerent and childish “ you are. bubba Watson is on the same type spectrum Whatever it is ... he’s not a bad dude at all But... he’s about as socially accepted as a mullet .

I tend to try to look at folks intentions. As in “ is he asking about ants to purposely cheat , or is he just hyper focused on the wrong thing and needed someone to switch him off that “ ? I don’t think he was trying to cheat , so....

anyway I heard that convo too and was surprised by it. And glad you brought it up and reminded me of it .

I’m no prof but have taught at the university level - I look at him more like the Professor on Gilligan’s Island - other than appearing to be the smartest of the lot (still think it was really Mary Ann), was he really a professor of anything?

No biggie, IMO.

Now if they start calling Tiger the GOAT ...... look out!

For all the talk about people wanting the pros not to be robots with canned answers and really hear what’s on their minds,

Look at Jack and TW

Won the most

Talked the least ; )

We all know TW sandbags the media, especially in his prime, but Jack wasn’t a blabbermouth either. Here’s Trevino...

”But Jack wasn't much of a talker on the golf course, and off the course Jack made just cursory small talk to most players. He called everybody "pro." It would be, "How you doing, pro?" "Family good?" "That's great, have a nice round today." The kind of stuff that doesn't give you much insight into what he's really about.”

True for sure. Tiger to this day trolls the media harder than any sports figure I’ve heard. Bottom line is everybody cAnt be suited. The quicker you realize this in life the better. If Bryson continues winning , it doesn’t matter what anyone says.

you won't be saying that...if....and he's also the only 15 time major winner in the tournament,,, tied with all time wins... of course they would show his early round and he won a major last year...and he gets flamed by a weekend warrior on a golfboard.

As a fan, I don't like Bryson. I've said it here before and I'm saying it again. The guy just makes himself an easy target and easy to dislike. Some here no doubt like that about him--and I may change my opinion some day. If I were ever to meet him, I might find him very likable--no idea. Time will tell.

But I'll give him this, he is in the process of changing golf almost to the extreme that Tiger changed it 20 years or so ago. (And, the talking heads used to love to rag on Tiger's wedge play, too.)

Agreed, and for better or worse it will require an equipment change that has been in the discussion for the past few years. Smaller driver head, uniform ball, whatever it is Bryson has shown that a change would be good for the game. I never agreed with Jack that the ball should be rolled back, but I do see the reasoning now. A player doesn't pick their own ball in any other sport, why is golf different?

I'm not for changing the ball--or even the equipment. But I certainly wouldn't be opposed to choking the fairways down any distance beyond 300 or so. If they can hit it 400 yards and hit the fairway, good for them!

Maybe let the fairways grow up a bit, too? No need to have 75 yards of roll out. And change the rakes in the greenside bunkers to trowel rakes. They are called hazards, let's make them someplace they don't want to be.

I don’t think Bryson is calling himself a professor or a scientist. I just think it’s the Talking Heads who can’t stop repeating themselves turning this whole scientist thing into an echo chamber. Average-Joe the viewer can’t distinguish the difference between the two

IMHO it's pretty much self-inflicted. Kinda like the kid in class who's always trying to get the teacher's attention, or the guy at work who wants to look good for the boss and comes across as a suck up. He's probably a nice guy but with the red ant and the OB stuff and all that he has become a distraction. May be entertaining for some viewers but if I were a co-worker it would get tiring real quick.

Bryson is a big boy, He likes the attention, And doesn’t seem to mind the controversy. He can handle it, why are you so concerned?

I'm pretty sure BD doesn't give a rats bum what anyone thinks except a few of his peers. Id be surprised if he stayed awake at night worrying that someone said he waddled like a duck when he walked. When he gives his press conferences I'm sure its the PGA tour PR people are telling him he what he needs to say as it might appear to be damaging their image, not his. Shaming? Wells that's going into the no talky area banned on this forum.

Bryson gets grief for being a little extreme in his approach to golf. And I've seen him get crap from fans first hand. I think he definitely takes some unnecessary grief and is a smart young guy that just thinks outside the box. People should cut him some slack.
