Hi all,

19 hc here, bought the videos and first session on the range today, obviously not expecting to get it straight away, quite a lot of shanks/slices to begin with, did get a couple flush which felt good. Video below of a good one. Think my current struggle with inconsistencies is maybe not bowing the left wrist forward enough in cast A, and not really thinking loads about cast B because im focussed on A so much.

Any thoughts on what to improve (NTC related) in the below swing? @MonteScheinblum would appreciate any feedback too

edit:not sure how to insert the video into the post? pressed insert on the attachment and it still shows as attachment for me

How long have you been doing the drills?

have you done any slow motion swings with the drills or after them?

Nice swing!  I believe that if you convert the video format from .mov to .mp4 it will play.

First range session today, and yeah is the video not working? it's a slo mo swing from today after doing the drills

The video is working fine.

I didn’t want to make any comments on the swing or give any advice/input without knowing the answers to the questions i asked.

There are issues in the swing that need to be addressed which NTC will fix if done properly, but understanding where you’re are in terms of working on ntc will help with what guidance to give.

also make when you record videos that the camera is in the correct position.

hand height pointing thru the hands.

He loads the wrists wrong and late, lacks proper pelvis rotation and stalls to let the arms catchup because of what he does in the backswing

Thanks for feedback.

Yeah couldn't get the camera higher than that, phone is resting on my bag. Could you explain the wrists being wrong and late? Monte talks about the fact that even though you feel the cast at the top, it doesn't look like it happens until 20% or so into the downswing.

In terms of pelvis rotation, monte tells us not to think about this and it should happen naturally, is my backswing therefore wrong? i felt the backswing was the best part being towards 7pm everytime

It’s not just the height of the camera it’s point towards you and not straight down the line.

You’re not setting them properly and you can see that at left arm parallels which is where 7 would be you don’t have a 90° angle between your arms and the club then you can see them load late at the top of the swing. This has nothing to do with when you feel the cast, your not in a good position at 7.

correct it should happen naturally from the push to 7 and the shoulder turn but your not turning properly, your right hip isn’t going back, you can see that in the backswing, also as you reach the top of the swing you move towards the ball which is another indication your hips and pressure are in the wrong place.

I’m going to ask again. This questions are important pieces of the puzzle

how long have you been doing the drills?

have you done any slow swings either with the drills or after them?

Not been doing the drills for long, only this week, that was my first and only range session so far. Have not done any slow mo drills if that's your question. And haven't done any drills since this first session, going back next week after some drills at home.

I agree with you about left arm parrelel, definitely dont quite have the 90 degree angle there, will work on that. As for my right hip, i do think it goes back a bit, should it be going back much more than that? I feel like any further and it would be a concious thought

Noted about the camera position, will film another one next week

You’re not going to see any change in your swing in a week if doing the drills or without any slow motion work. That’s not even remotely enough time to make any type of change let alone see it in the swing.

Your right hip looks like it goes back because what’s happening is your left hip comes forward, it’s a false turn. Your body especially the hips wouldn’t move you closer tot he ball like what happens in your swing if the right hip went back.

You need to spend a good amount of time working on the wrist set at the beginning of the drills and pushing the hands to 7. If these aren’t in a good spot doing the push to 8 and the cast a warmer going to be in a good spot.

learn to hit balls from the 7 o’clock position then move on to the push to 8

also post some face on videos to look at grip and setup

Pretty early on in adopting the NTC feels. Where should I be focusing my effort?

The push to 7.

Your extending your trail leg and maxing out hip turn too early. Then never gain flexion in it during the downswing.

I would also get the grip and setup video. Your upper body is way too far over your toes.

My pleasure

Another guy who’d benefit from that Instagram clip from Monte about the backswing sequence. It should be talked about more often that nothing moves until it’s encouraged to by the previous movement. That’s essential for sequencing to be effective.

Agree here as well. I think it’s great for teaching the upper body moving the lower body, which is basically the premise of NTC.

I love how Monte’s videos series have some tie into other ones.

Do you have a link to that by any chance?

Update on my swing. Trying to get that cast A/B really incorporated in my swing. I end up missing a bit to the right (push, little slice). I also feel that I chunk my shots and it shows when I’m on grass. Any advice is appreciated!

Here’s a DTL:

You’ve taking the no turn part to literally.

You’re not setting yours early. At left arm parallel the club isn’t near 90°. Your left hip his coming out rather than the upper body causing the right hip to go back and around, and because you set the wrists late along with what you’re doing with the arms and body it’s hard to do cast a.

you don’t get pressure left and because of what you did in the backswing your not getting any rotation in the downswing so you stall and wait for the arms to catch up and that causes your contact issue.

Your ball is too far back in your stance

work on the wrist set and push to 7

Oh I see, the left hip is coming out forward instead of right hip pulling back around. So feel back and around with right hip

Also, I do see that the wrists are still not setting, I thought I had hinged my wrists earlier but need to be even more early. Thank you.

Feel like your first move in the takeaway is to set your wrists. @GoGoErky do you think he needs to create some better angles at address too? Seems a bit too close to it.

I also think he can have a better set up. Weight a bit more in the balls of the feet, arms more relaxed, shin angle a bit more towards the toes.

You have to look like you’re about to make an athletic motion. @iacas talks about looking like you’re ready to dive.
