The Grip Master Leather Grips - Sizing

So I've tried reading several threads but unfortunately haven't found a definitive answer. I'll also emailed Grip Master directly, but haven't had a response yet so was hoping the forum may be able to help. Looking to take the leap and try some Leather grips, but haven't been able to have a feel of them in person.

 

How do Leather Grip Master grips compare in size to regular (NOT plus 4 or reduced taper) Lamkin /Golf Pride grips? I particularly looking at the Roo Swinger grips.

 

I currently play Lamkin UTX or Crossline Cord or Golf Pride Tour Velvet. I use a .580 core grip with 3 additional layers of double sided tape on a 0.600 shaft that comes out just shy of midsize and doesn't have the problem of the increased weight of the midsize grips. I have read that using additional tape on leather grips isn't recommended due to the firmer underlisting making it hard to fit them, so I was starting to look at the midsize options. How do they compare to the Golf Pride midsize? I know the weight is less which is a bonus but can't see anything relating the size clearly. Any thoughts/problems with adding a rib using either the golfworks kits or cord/copper wire as is fairly common? Is the Roo 'Jumbo' their equivalent of midsize?

A little extra question, how do people deal with varying butt diameters between shafts within their set? Anyone had success with using extra wraps or putting a Grip Master grip on butt diameters bigger than 0.600? How big? As a note, I'd be using tape and solvent as don't have access to an air compressor.

Hi mate,

 

I’ve had extensive experience with GripMaster. I’ll do my best to answer:

 

- They’re slightly larger in the bottom half when compared to something like a Tour velvet. Not as extreme as a plus 4 but maybe 1 wrap for example. 
 

- The Jumbo is their Midsize. They’ve acknowledged that is confusing and will be changing it in the future. 
 

- Regarding extra tapes and ribs. Their advice is to stick to 2 wraps maximum. I would echo that and stay away from diy ribs. It’s not so much the underlistings it’s the leather that doesn’t ‘give’ like rubber does. 
you could always purchase 1 extra and do some experimenting.

Completely just by feel, but I felt the grip masters midsize felt a little smaller than say a NDMC midsize when installed.  Could be just that it has more give or something but I use two layers or tape under my midsize Grip Masters and they feel perfect.  As for the varying butt sizes I havent had issues self installing my GMs on any of my clubs using tape and solvent.

All my iron shafts should be fine but just realised my 5 wood shaft is an Aldila ATX Blue with a butt diameter of ~ 0.630" so I may have to try a standard size on there which will hopefully be somewhere close to a midsize/jumbo on a 0.600" shaft, though likely to be just short I think. A midsize/jumbo on that butt diameter would be too much for me I think. My 3 wood and driver are bit bigger too unfortunately .... the problems of being OCD about your equipment.
