KBS Tour 130 X-stiff shafts

Newbie here...so be gentle.  So I recently purchased a set of Ping i210s with KBS Tour 130 x-stiff shafts in them.  My buddy has the Mizuno JPX 900s with the same shafts.  However, my Pings feel SO much heavier.  Do iron head weights vary that much by manufacturer?  I am not sure what else it could be.  His mizzies feel like butter...and mine feel like i'm swinging an axe.

Headweights can certainly vary and your i210s could have been weighted heavier, which PING will do, but I would check the club lengths first. Stand up your irons next to his and I wouldn't be surprised if yours are longer.

generally no, since most manufacturers use standard lengths and swingweights, there is some variation but not enough to make you fo whoooooa thats heavy/light. If you bought used, they could be longer than standard  giving them a heavier feel or have tipweights in them to bring swingweight up. Check length first. I had a set of srixons with those shafts and they were longer than standard with midsize grips. Very hefty.

Valtiel is right, higher swing weight can make a club feel heavier even if the overall weight is similar. Most companies calibrate SW for length, but if yours are 1/2"+ longer it could be part of the difference.

 

The other explanation is total club weight. If the shafts are the same, only variables are grips and heads. Look up the weights for the respective grips. Put the same iron from each set on a scale, subtract the difference in grip weight, should give you the difference in headweight (plus tip weight/CTP). 

 

That being said...of course the Mizunos feel like butter!

Actually mine are 1/2”longer...his are a full inch.

Haha, very true about the mizunos.  So we have the exact same shafts and grips.  Like I said above, mine are 1/2” longer; his are a full inch longer.  I’ve always played pings...should’ve just went with the mizzies.  Thanks for the reply.
