Would you say the v6 is comparable to the mp20 mmc iron?

No. Feel wise they are every bit as soft as the MP20 blades.

I've always thought the V6 irons were nice and underrated, always had my eye on a set. Now you've driven the price up of the probably 20 lefty sets out in the wild 🤣

I can see now why they don't come up for sale very often.

I'm gonna keep an eye out for them. Hopefully come winter people are more willing to sell.

Also this is the kinda iron Wilson needs to keep making. It's almost a cult follow iron and they just pump out giant SGI irons with slots in the sole.

I haven't hit the new "STAFF" ball yet but my experience came with the FG Tour  and FG Tour X golf balls. A few years ago I tested them against every major tour ball on the market at the time from Bridgestone, Taylormade, Titleist, Srixon, Nike etc all at the same time and the FG Tour X ball (isn't made anymore) is the single best ball I have ever hit with a golf club and the FG Tour is a close second. I was astonished at how much more spin I was generating with the FG Tour X off of wedges yet how low the spin was off driver which fit what I needed.

The final kicker is that Wilson will allow their ball to be discounted so at the end of the year I would pick up 10 dozen for $15-$17 per dozen and in that regard no other tour ball on the market can compete especially since the performance was actually better than the Pro V golf balls which most consider the gold standard.  When I would hit them with wedges they would hit and stick in place while ALL of the other balls would hit, grab, and roll out 4 feet.  Driver and iron yardages were similar across the board pretty much except for some reason I am one club shorter with Srixon tour balls. The feel off the putter was similar for all of the balls tested so at that price and performance nothing can touch a Wilson tour ball bought deeply discounted as you are sacrificing nothing when you play them.

@braincramp52 what shaft are you playing ??

and this might be a tough question. Why do you think youre hitting the v6 better than anytthing else youve ever played ??

I went from a KBS Tour 105 stiff to a Dynamic Gold AMT R300. I guess they are just the perfect combination of awesome feel with a touch of help. I am far from a engineer or club designer but the way Wilson placed the tungsten in these irons is simply brilliant in my opinion. The hardest part about playing the V6 is you have to get it in your head that these irons (like blades) are the complete opposite of most of the stuff being made today. You have to be cool with losing some distance . If anyone had ever told me I'd be hitting 3 and 4 irons this good after having 3-4 hybrids in my bag for years I would have laughed in their face.

I bought a set off the BST on a whim, they knocked everything out of my bag. I just sold my z-forged/785 combo, a set of 919 hmp’s and a set of 919 tours. I love my set, can’t wait to see the next gen when released. I do however feel that they actually go quite a long way for the lofts, as long as my hot metal pro’s.

The next Gen HAS to be amazing...V8's always are better.

I still want to get another set of the Wilson blades with the right shaft but I also am excited to see what the V6 replacement looks like.

Thank you. Of course they are discontinued.....

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I would like to order a used set like that, but my irons are +2-inches and 2º upright, and it's almost impossible to find a set with those specs. Sure I could re-shaft them, but then it becomes cost prohibitive.

I feel your pain, I am a +1" 3* upright guy.  It's easier than YOU, but still, for irons like the Wilson Blades or any blades, it's just odd.

Because of my height (6'4") I am currently playing Edel SLS01 single length irons.  As a TALLER golfer, I am in love with the 7-GW.  The 6 iron is like a girl I'd date but not marry, and the 5 iron is the pick up a chick at 2 AM when the bar is closing type.  I need the 5 and 6 iron to be a tick longer to get best performance.

What I have thought about doing was ordering irons with the 4 and 5 iron at 39" long the 6-8 iron at 37.5" long and the 9-PW at 36.5" long.

I just have not found anyone that will do that yet.

The VD Staffs V6's are something I could aspire to if I had the money. The lofts definitely look more standard from clubs 20 years ago or so, which in my opinion is how it should be anyway. I'm sure I'm not the only one who knows no mfgr is fooling us in trying to convince us that the new 4 irons are not 3 irons from 20 years ago and that their new technology has helped us pick up a club and a half easy.

I play a cheap small blade with somewhat weak lofts. I also went to a weaker (and lighter shaft) between regular and stiff since I'm now 55 and does it feel good. My set doesn't have a 3 iron of course but I hit my 4 iron 200 which is fine by me. Sure my nephew hits his 7-8 iron the same distance but then again I don't need 5 wedges.

Edited by chipa

I use the "Shirtsleeve" swing technique me and a friend developed over the course of 3 years while trying many techniques seen here on GolfWrx as well as other classic instruction (Jones, Hagen, Hogan, etc.).

I've always hoped that Wilson would become a new Cleveland for me - as far as irons are concerned. You know, a company totally off the radar that makes excellent clubs that are cheap because they get no respect. Like if Rodney Dangerfield were attractive or something.

I highly coveted the original FG Tours and was actually fit for a combo set with the FG59s but couldn't make myself cough up the cash. I've scoured ebay for years since looking for my favorite iterations of the line (the originals, M3s, and V6) but they are hard to find. I guess they didn't produce the volume that Cleveland did back in the day.

If I weren't such a cheap bastxxx, I'd have owned a set long ago...

Another W/S V6 user here. They really are a great club. As mentioned by the OP don't expect to gain distance with these clubs but what you can expect is a very forgiving, very soft and very consistent iron.

So I bought a new set of Wilson Staff blades last winter and I played them this whole season. I frickin' love those things! At 68 years old I decided I'd sell them and order a new set only with regular flex shafts. So I sold them last week and ordered new ones. In the meantime I found a really nice looking set of the Wilson V6's on the bay. 3-GW regular flex. So I bought them thinking they'd be fun to play with while I was waiting for my new Staff's. Well, I got them today and Holy Crap! What a iron. They definitely aren't a distance iron but I knew they were really weak lofted by today's standards when I bought them. These things are every bit as soft feeling as any Mizuno I've ever played. The biggest surprise was the fact that I can actually hit the long irons with absolutely no issues at all! The ball flight is perfect with the V6's. The entire set looked almost like new. I don't think the guy ever hit the 3-5 and the GW still had the original plastic on it. I understand a 180 yard 3 iron is nothing on WRX but since I haven't even tried to play 3 and 4 irons for probably 15 years I was damn near giddy when I hit the green from that distance. Anyway, I cancelled my blade order for now. The V6's are now planted firmly in my bag !

Congrats on the "new to you" irons. I was a blade player for years, but age caught up to me. I switched from Hogan Apex to Hogan Apex Edge Pros and then to Mizuno JPX 850s.  I had a brief affair with Taylormade '17 M2s, but I'm back with the Mizunos. I believe players who "grew up" with blades do better with blade like cavity backs than the larger game improvement clubs on the market.

They can...it's just that it's kind of a pain in the hind end to find clubs to demo on a range or course...I do not trust a fitting just to trackman.  To many times I have had "great numbers" on the sim, and been terrible on course.

The other thing, if I go find a great set of used clubs, by the time I extend them, re-grip them, and have the lie angles adjusted, I have a whole lot of money tied up in a 'maybe'.

I played the irons prior to my Edels for almost 16 years...Callaway X18's 30P=PW at +1" long and 3* upright with REAL Royal Precision Rifle 6.0 shafts.  Once I get dialed in with irons...I don't change often.

It's not really losing distance, though.  It's loft that determines distance for everyone.  A 35* club will hit as far as a 35* club will for your game, regardless of whether it says "7" or "8" on the sole.  Or a "6" for that matter.
