Protection for SkyCaddie SG4

OEM Case is Horrible. Any Alternatives?

I got a SkyCaddie SG4 for Christmas and got the Sky Golf Leather Holster (no belt clip) along with it. However, the device won't sit in the holster right without removing the battery cover and the holster doesn't seem to provide much protection - no padding and nothing to protect the screen. Basically, it is one of the poorest excuses for an accessory I've seen in quite some time. :russian_roulette:

So, here is a question for you SG4 owners. Have you found a generic or after-market case that provides more protection? Or perhaps one made for another device that has a similar form factor? I'm wanting to carry it on my belt and perhaps clip it to my bag also.

Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

Yep, thanks. I saw the Gilsson case in an old post after doing a search. Just wondering if there is anything else out there...

I too hated all the accessories. I use a beer coozie. Nice protection, easy in and out to use.

I've had the SG4 since mid summer and have just kept it in an otherwise empty pocket while playing and in an old Oakley sunglasses case when not playing. I just recently ordered the Gilsson case. If the knob for the belt clip is obtrusive I might file it off...I don't trust the belt clip and won't ever use it anyway.

The coozie in a can holder sounds like a good idea.

The worst thing that I have done is set it on top of the cart to calibrate before the round and then forgot about it until my second shot...thankfully it never fell off.

I have the OEM leather case with belt clip. No issues after a year.

To protect the screen I use those transparent film screen protectors used for Palm pilots.

Anything that's designed to protect an iPod or iPhone type screen will work great on the SC.

Another vote for the Gilsson case.

I have the SG3 and use the velcro strap on the handlebar of my push cart.

+1 for the Gilsson case as well. Since I ride most of the time, I like to clip it to my bag and unclip it to where I am going to hit the shot. Pretty easy as I don't like to have it on my belt.

THe SG3 and 4 use the same case and buttons as the Magellan Explorist series GPS units. The Neoprene case for the explorist can be found at many GPS stores on the web for less then $15. It works perfectly to clip to a bag or push cart.

Hey Kobe. Where do you clip it after walking to your shot? I am almost afraid to ask....LOL.

Another vote for the Gilsson. It is perfect for walking or a push cart. You don't see many golf carts in Scotland but I am sure it would work for that too.

I got over my "keep this thing pristine phase" rather quickly with my SG4.
It's just another tool in the bag for me now. I put a clear screen protector on it, and that's it. The SG4 rides in the cupholder of the cart, the goodie-compartment on my Clicgear, or the soft "valuables pocket" in my stand-bag.

I use the belt clip for my SG3. Very similar to the belt clips they used to have for cell phones, when cell phones were bigger maybe 5-10 years ago.

Why don't you trust the belt clip? Seems sturdy enough to me and makes it easy to access.

Big guy, the gilsson case protects the whole unit so I just look at the reading, lay it down, hit my shot, pick it up and clip it back to the bag on the cart. Pretty easy.
