I was shocked how hard they were finding the course.

I loved watching today but the coverage was so short! the afternoon lot were just passed half way!

ugh

Heard that too.  Sounded like a odd accent that said it too. Lol. Like Borat was there or something.  Weird. And Uber annoying.

Did a search based on the information in the thread.

Oddly enough - the name E. Fritz Roberts surfaced.  He moved around a lot as a kid and his family often settled near industrial areas, and apparently they didn't eat vegetables - explains the yelling.

Looks like Phil will be able to get in extra practice time at Augusta this weekend. Phil should play more senior tour events next year and start scaling back from the PGA tour. I would......

Makes sense. Rarely can you trust a guy named Fritz.  I mean the name says it.  “ on the fritz “.

when you throw in the lack of lycopene as a kid you have a powder keg of possibilities for imbecilic  behavior.

Phil is too crooked off the tee to compete consistently (on the big tour). He almost hit it in 1 fairway off 18 yesterday. I can't believe how far right that is.

I think it goes deeper than that.  Fritz may not have evolved.  The lycopene deficiency could have turned back his internal clock resulting in what they call, cave man syndrome.

My theory:  When he yelled, "get in the hole" he probably meant, "get back in the cave, danger is lurking."

Maybe he saw a big dog or horse and got scared?

Very good point.  The old “ fight or flight “ reflex.

I’ll have to go back and see who was in that group when I heard it.  If it were Bryson or Beef Johnson it would make perfect sense , but I don’t think either are in the field.  Could have been DJ , a strong reproductive competitor Would likely illicit the same reaction.

poor guy probably grabbed his partner and dragged then to safety !

They really should start testing these fans before they allow entry.

The course looks like a muni.

It is a muni.  Tom Doak was brought in to do what he could to make it more playable for the pros as well as the public (it is one of the most heavily played courses in the country).

Not to mention the course is a year old and the Bermuda is beginning to go dormant. That aside the course is in excellent condition and I’m very impressed with what they’ve been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time to get it ready for this week.

Also, given his scoring, Brooks Koepka seems to have done too good of a job as player consultant to Tom Doak for the redesign, lol.

Honestly, I am a member of a top 51 in the world course on two of the lists and I love playing Memorial, it grows on you every time you play, the range staff are awesome and I practice there 2-4 times a week.

yeah, we played it last year,  maye a few months after it opened ... played it a bunch before the redesign ... that short par 3 used to go over water (15th) ... i don't remember it that well when i played it last time, but i guess that water is gone judging from the diagram i saw of that quintuple today or yesterday ... played pretty well that day ... think it was a 74 or 75 ... firm and more than a bit fast ...

OMG...lived in Houston during most of the 80's, wasn't even playing golf yet and thought it was a goat track. Only thing interesting was um...joggers on the jogging path along Memorial Drive. I was freakin' shocked when I tuned in yesterday to see them playing Memorial Park. I thought WTF... Scores are much higher than I thought so it must've been stretched out big time like Torrey. Played Torrey a couple years ago and yeah it's cool being on the ocean but really it's just a very long course even playing up.

I love it, so good to have firm greens, I am so used to that over the normal Houston massive pitch mark and no release.

I think it would only be three holes you would recognise, complete redesign.

Still the same joggers, still the same Becks Prime(never eaten at), now after the tournament they decide if they take down the old clubhouse or not.

Grew up in Houston a few minutes from Memorial Park and started playing golf in the mid 90's.  To the earlier post, the course had a well done renovation back in the 90s which really brought it back to life after it had indeed become a goat track.  I moved away years ago, but I used to know that course like the back of my hand.  My family is still there but I haven't been able to get back and play the redesign because of covid.  So excited to watch it on TV with so many big names there.  Course looks great, though I do lament what they've done to 15.  My impression from the TV coverage is that the front seems pretty radically redesigned while the back is fairly recognizable.

I played it a ton in the 80s while on the HS golf team.  It was a goat track back then.  Conditions sucked.

But the mid-1990s renovation spearheaded by Mayor Bob Lanier (switched the nines, added Becks prime, etc) turned it into a decent track.

The recent renovation turns Memorial Park into one of the best munis in the nation.  Doak's green complexes are very difficult.  It's compounded by the fact the greens are still new and firm.  It's fun to watch the pros have some of the same problems I've faced with them.

Doak's changes also help the course drain better and the removal of a lot of bunkers (per Koepka's suggestion) makes it easier to get the course ready after a storm.

"On fire" is C19.  Hospitals are filling up, ICU's are nearly full, all across Texas.  So, again, how are fans on site?

why are there fans at Texans games? it's a massive discussion with so many points of view. This is not a Covid discussion thread.

There are fans this week.

I would rather talk about the golf I am watching - loving watching the pga tour live, two groups this morning, seeing what they are hitting, how they are playing it etc.
