Mommy, if you don't tell me who Santa is I won't ever believe you again, ever!

Mickey Schmitdale ( pun intended )  should post his credentials- he's a sponsor and using WRX as a lesson source, good for him and others pros using WRX as a referral-income source.  I'm not soliciting lessons, don't need the income, just offering opinions and insights as they come to me, which may or may not be what other professionals believe but that's golf, that's golf instruction.    Again, just my opinion, agree or disagree is totally on your dime, not mine, seriously.

Now, stop trolling and learn to be still.

No idea what the pun is, but if you mean Monte his credentials as a player and coach are all over the Internet. No way does he need this little site to pick up lesson referrals, he’s been nothing but generous with his time with a lot of people here.

your credentials remain a secret however. We’ll all draw our own conclusions why

Relax boys.  We all come here to destress and unwind.  We all share our passion for golf.  No need to fight over such trivial things.

As noted, first thing is determine purpose of practice - improve, skill build, repeatable.    After that I like to include variation which comes in many forms.    Don’t hit same club twice in a row, hit the toe then heel then sweet spot, spend 15 minutes on long game then hit distance wedges for 15 minutes then go putt, rinse repeat.  Practice hitting 7i out of green side bunker.    Hit high soft 8i chips alternating with lob wedge.   And so on.

The first rule of the Dunning-Kruger club is that you don’t know you are a member.   The second rule is that we’re all members from time to time.

It's another beautiful day at the Red Pony Bar and continual soirée.

I like the your overall routine, however there is one thing I don't understand and would like clarification.  Why would you purposely practicing hitting off the toe and heel?  It has been said by Mr. Katsuhiro Miura and others that the true sweet spot lies towards the heel and I tend to agree, however, hosel rockets and toe shots that hurt like a mfer and don't go anywhere don't really benefit anyone.

I think this makes sense for a decent player looking for marginal gains, so to speak. But I’d still argue that someone hitting no more than 4 or 5 greens should be absolutely focusing on a better setup and swing, plus some chipping and putting. Not trying to hit sweeping high draws with a four iron or raking pin seekers off the deck with a baffy

I’d guess it might build a better awareness of how your hands move along the arc and potentially improve your coordination. Never tried it though

I’m going to be on a simulator this winter, but here are my plans...

1. dial in wedges... ingrain different swing lengths so I’m comfortable repeating them on demand... basically make sure my half swing is always a half swing.
2. this is more monitor dependent, but figure out my dispersion with irons and try to dial in the most consistent swing... I have a tendency to try to step on clubs, so I want to figure out which swing feel leads to the most consistent results.

3. Improve driver efficiency. Find the path that leads to the best numbers. Dial in what setup I need to hit it. Repeat.

impact tape / foot powder will be in my bag to check on my ball striking...

read up on block call random practice.

Pretty much start all sessions the same.

First 10 passes don't care what happens, fat, thin, shank, etc., as I'm just loosening up my ranges of motion by moving static weight dynamically.  Looks comical.

Then I hit push slices for about 10 balls, then 10 pull hooks.

Then I top, on purpose, maybe 5 to 10 balls, using either early extension, radial shortening, or my secret 3rd way.

Then I'm ready to work on what to work on.

And that's on a calm day.  On a windy day it's really a lot of fun.

Skill build.  Wouldn’t teach a math student to solve a problem incorrectly but when it comes to motion going to ends works to help better find the middle - some term it Goldilocks drills.  Plus in the short game hitting the ball on the toe is a skill and important to control smash and spin.  Can apply to lots of thIngs in golf - another chipping is I take 3 balls and chip to the same hole but one is high, one low and one stock.   Or  if learning to shallow, goes very steep, then really shallow and next just right.   Learning to hit things like a shank on command can be good training - monte typically demonstrates this at his clinics.

one example of the toe hit and I’ve heard fax on talking about using the toe also when faced with a chip to a downhill hole when putting wasn’t an option

I've been trying to move away from just beating balls to a slightly more efficient way of practicing, especially around our on / off lock downs over here in the UK.

I try to plan my range sessions or atleast make a note of what I want to acheive before I start and then try and break each session down in three stages

1 - technique work

2 - skill development

3 - competitive games

Stage 1 is a focus on the basics, getting your set up / alignment correct and working on any swing drills / feelings you've got from your instructer

Stage 2 is working on hitting different shots.  Fades, draws, low and high etc.  You can adapt this to shots relevant to your skill level.

Stage 3 is playing games - How many drives out of 10 can I hit between two targets on the range.  How many shots out of 10 can I start left of a target and have it land to the right and so on

In reality I find myself getting caught up in technique work and not moving on to stages 2 and 3, especially if I feel that I'm not hitting it well.  This is something I'm trying to improve on as getting caught up in technique is one of the biggest things that holds me back

i would say don't hit the same shot with the same club twice in a row. 😜

hitting a wide variety of shots to different targets with the same club can be an excellent way to improve ball-striking, distance control, spin control, creativity, and confidence, to name a few.

Can do both.   Not a choice between one or the other , they each introduce variation into a practice session.
