Hotmelt questions

Hello 🙂

 

I'm looking at picking up a hotmelt gun and start tinkering with adding hotmelt to some drivers.  Sorry if these are entry level, but I have some questions...

 

1.  What type of glue stick should I use?

2. Suggestions on glue guns?  

3. When adding melt to deaden the sound, would I want to have it settle on the top or bottom of the club?

They have a cheaper version, but I wouldn’t recommend it. This is the same Steinel gun that Mitchell Golf used to sell. It’ll do the job.

Fantastic!!  I was on a different site looking at the guns but couldn't find one with a longer nozzle.  This one looks to have the nozzle built into the glue container, which is nice!

I'll second this recommendation. I have had both and the cheaper one isn't worth the box it's shipped in. Make sure to get a few extra cartridges because the shipping as a bit high when reordering.  Incidentally, the tips on the cartridges are long and you will have to elevate the charging mount or hang it off the edge of your bench to allow room for it. I simply trim the tip down so that it fits sitting on my bench and have had no issues.

I'm curious as to what the beef is with the cheaper Hot Melt gun. I own one (the one costs ~$70) and have not had problems with it. That said, I don't normally use it more than once or twice a year (if that).

1. Insufficient heat to keep melt flowing in the tip for multiple clubs.

2. Awkward heating tube where melt can drip and cause a mess.

3. Entire cartridge comes out of heater and cools off quickly causing the need to re-insert.

4. Trigger mechanism is prone to breakage and does not reliably feed melt.

5. Melt cartridge is held in with small tabs and can pop out if melt cools too much during application.

 

All I could think of at the moment. Yeah, I'm not the most patient person, but for $55 more, you get a quality piece of equipment.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't really had any of those issues but I don't use mine very often.
