Colorado WRX 2021

Was up in Windsor/FoCo this weekend for a hockey tournament. If the weather was a bit warmer, I would've brought my clubs. Our hotel was right next to Highland Meadows; unfortunately, the brewery right next to the golf course was disappointing.

My post from last year talks about how awful Meridian's practice greens are.

I just got an e-mail that Jerry Walters is moving to Valley Country Club for all of his clinics and fittings. That's good for everyone.

That's interesting.  If so, it hasn't been put out to the membership that he's coming over to Valley.  Will be cool to have him on site.

I don't think he'll have an office, per se, at Valley. He didn't have an office at Meridian--just a working partnership with Trent Werner Golf School.

How are you liking your membership at Valley?

I've been loving it.  It's nice to be able to go out for 4 or 5 holes after work rather than beating balls at the range.  There are a couple of 4-5 hole loops I can play.  The membership has been awesome and haven't met anyone that I wouldn't play with again.  We did vote for a new pool, outdoor grill and fitness center, so it kind of sucked to join then have a substantial assessment, but it is needed and going to be sweet when its complete.  Course is always in good condition and pace of play is spectacular.  No regrets at all.

Valley CC has an excellent short game practice area to the left of the 10th fairway with multiple greens and bunkers. Really nice. If I remember right you could hit up to 150 yard shots.

It's awesome.  I don't think you can get 150 out of it.  Maybe 100.  Regardless it is a great perk.  If I have one complaint, it's that the range is too flat.  It's hard to see where longer shots actually land.

Tried to get out on Friday, no luck in Highlands Ranch area.  Snow is melting, but not enough yet.

I've got a tee time at Spring Valley Ranch Golf Course on Sunday, keeping my fingers crossed that I can get that round in!

I'm pretty annoyed that I took both cars to the car wash on Sunday, and both cars had to go out in this dreck tonight. My weather app said we hit 66° today; now we have almost 2" of snow on our grassy areas.

Not a flake of snow in Fort Collins.  Have to love Colorado weather and how different 50-60 miles can be.

Forget 50-60 miles.  Try 5-6 miles.  Aurora Golf posted a side by side of Saddle Rock and Meadow Hills.  Saddle is covered in snow.  Meadow doesn't have a single flake on it.  Crazy.

We had snow at Murphy, have not been out to see it in the last few days so not sure how it is today.  Been itching to hit and play.

Bummer part is I cant go anywhere as I caught our "favorite friend" and am in isoloation until the 12th at a min.  Trace contacting with someone who tested positive and sure enough I got it.

Working from home and watching the tourney on golf channel  😃    Good news I have two fantastic trips already setup/booked this year, so while I have the antibodies I think I should toss in a 3rd  LOL  Just need to get the last one in over the next 5-7 months(or logner) they list the antibodies last

Where you going for the trips?  I may have missed it if you posted earlier in the thread, but always like hearing about golf trips 🙂

I was able to get out and play Fox Hollow on Tuesday when the weather was just perfect.  I walked...ugh, that course is a bear to walk.  So much elevation change.  We played Canyon/Links.  Maybe the Meadows is an easier walk but those two together are no joke.

I did hole out for an eagle on 1 on the Canyon though, that was fun.  I don't think I holed out at all last year, so it was fun to get one, even for a round that doesn't count.  I was 105 out and the pin was all the way to the left (and it's uphill) so you couldn't see the bottom of the flag.  Hit what I thought was a decent shot and figured I'd be close for birdie.  Walk up and don't see my ball on the green so I'm looking all over thinking I must have rolled off until my buddy yells out that there's a ball in the cup.  Fun times!

The two times we played 9 at Fox Hollow last summer was Meadows, and that is definitely the easiest 9 to walk.

I really like Fox Hollow, has jumped up in price a lot from the original days. I used to live near it and played it all the time. Like having 3 - 9's.   Funny speaking of hole out, the "canyon" hole, I think 6?  I holed out from the fairway for a 2, never even saw it go in. The marshal did (if they still have one on that hole, been awhile since I have played it) and was all excited and I had NO clue LOL.

Current booked Trips:  (baring the world does not shut down again........)

Pinehurst - End of March.   No.2 / No.4 / Dormie Club and Cradle.  May add MP / PN round too just not sure yet.

Bandon Dunes - End of June.  Playing all courses and par 3.  Never been and really looking forward to it.

So given those two locations was wondering what would be a fitting 3rd trip  😃

Edit: Thoughts?

Nice eagle Asak10. I had one on 9 at Legacy Ridge yesterday. Winds were blowing 20-25 so tee shot was back far enough you couldn't see the first third of the green. Looking all over saying wtf I know it didn't go in the water

I'm playing Fox Hollow Sunday. I try to hit all the expensive ones for non residents during the off season. It's only $43 to walk weekends in winter.

CDM - All your trips are front loaded. Go back to Wilderness Club in the hot summer.

Ha, they do still have a marshal there (it's the 5th hole).  They are apparently doing some work to that hole this summer so we'll see what they change.  I like Fox Hollow too, it's a fun setup.  I love playing next door at Homestead as well, especially with my hickory clubs, it's a perfect distance and fun with the kids.

Those two already are no joke!  If you want to save some money, since Bandon is obviously a little pricey, you can take trip to Alabama and play the RTJ Trail.  I've done that a few times and it's awesome.  Stay in Birmingham and play the two Oxmoor courses and then go play Ross Bridge the next day which is 5 minutes down the road (and an amazing course).  Then you can travel down to Capitol Hill and there's 3 courses to choose from, all are great but Judge was my favorite.  Or travel to Grand National and play the two courses there.

Big Cedar Lodge is definitely on my short list to take a trip to.

Then you can always plan a Wisconsin golf trip.  I'm going out there and playing all 4 courses at Kohler, and then playing Erin Hills.  If I had more time that weekend I was going to make it out to Sand Valley but that'll have to be next time I travel out there.  There's a few other courses worth playing if you have time

Did RTJ a few years ago.  Birmingham was fun as hell. Everyone said  "its dangerous" downtown, we had a BLAST as ton of bars with locals and has some killer food too..!  Anyone who has not done RTJ should as noted and crash in one area.  Ross Bridge, the shear size of the place, I swear you could fit 2 courses if not 2 and another 9 holes in the same area.  I really liked the par 5 opening hole.  Had wind at our back and it carried to the bottom of the hill towards the water.  Go on in two...and 3 jacked it  /cry

Big Cedar I took the wife and daughter 3 or 4 years ago.  We stayed on Table Rock Lake, fished and boated but did get in 3 rounds.  Now there is more courses there (under construction when I went) I would like to go back.

Has anyone tried out the indoor simulator place called X Golf in DTC?

Looks like they have a 12-week 3-man league for $300/person on Mondays and Thursdays (Wednesday is already full).

I was able to play last Sunday at Spring Valley - after a 30min frost delay, we tee'd off around 10am, greens were pretty hard and after hitting the greens on the fly and watching my shot bounce over the back, I realized that was a bad strategy.  Still happy to have gotten out.  Scheduled for a round on Sunday at Littleton Golf, since temps are forecasted to be in mid 50's.

As for golf trips, currently have a 4-day trip scheduled later this month @ Mesquite, Nevada - thanks in part to the Golf Passport free rounds/hotel.  Then have a trip scheduled in September in Nashville with 24 guys going.  Should be a great time!  I've also been to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama several times too, especially favor The Judge course at Capital Hill, though the Senator and Legislator are fun too!

I've been curious about this place, but haven't braved the traffic to go down there yet.  I admit, I'm a little spoiled as I have an indoor simulator already.

For those talking about the "Canyon Hole" renovation, I snapped this pic today. Overall, it is probably a good idea and will make the hole more playable for a lot of people and increase pace. However, I think it will make the hole less interesting. The slopped landing area made the hole tough and unpredictable. They are also doing an irrigation update all over the course so I would expect some construction in the coming months.

Interesting.  So what other hole is being modified?  only asking as left of the image you posted it looks like there is another hole being tweaked?

Well that was crazy. 30 mph winds at Fox Hollow and I manage to shoot 40 on Links and feeling really good, then make the turn and a brush fire (assuming some idiot with a cigarette or cigar since there was no lightning) starts on Canyon and they evacuate everyone. I don't know if the fire got to the fairways or not, but they might be getting a head start on that work if so.
