High handicapper--looking for swing feedback due to inconsistent contact

"Likes" as they exist today have only been around for a very short time, whereas Monte has been around for decades. I would argue this actually shows how much his input is valued to have so many in such a short time.

At the risk of going too off topic, I want to address what you said here in bold. You may feel like you are criticized and cursed by people because of the "truths" you are telling or that you are going against the grain when it comes to modern swing coaching etc etc, but the reality in my opinion is more simple. The way you choose to communicate your "truths" is REALLY difficult to understand and follow most of the time. We agree on a number of key fundamentals, especially when it comes to the hands, but in trying to share them you come across almost like you're sharing a riddle or a puzzle to be decoded, and I think most people just find that exhausting. Some poor guy comes here for help and he is hit with "DOMINANT HANDS, CORTICAL HOMUNCULUS, UNDENIABLE PREPROGRAMMED HUMAN GENETICS!" when all he wants to do is stop shanking the ball.

One of the most important qualities in a good teacher is the ability to break down difficult concepts to make them digestible and understandable to a student, not to confound them with what sounds like the coded language of an ancient sage who has lost half his mind. 😅

I mean that with all due respect, because I believe the only difference between the criticism/cursing you have received and an actual healthy debate about ideas is how you generally choose to communicate yours.

Exactly this.

Life before death,

strength before weakness,

journey before destination.

Played 18 today and while things are still highly wonky, I thought that my ballstriking was a little better than some past rounds. Even some of my worst shots were face control or over-hooking rather than bad contact, so that was a positive. I was trying to use the "new" swing even though it's not ingrained, because I figured my normal game is inconsistent enough that it's not like I'm giving up scratch play for these changes lol... Need a LOT more range time to work this out, but I don't get chances to play as often as I'd like, so I had to take advantage.

Putting and short game let me down. Had a 12" putt for birdie on #3 (~150 yd par 3), and made it. Hit a perfect 6i into an uphill 180 yd par 3 on #11, exactly pin high and 3' right of the pin, and missed the birdie putt. That might have been for the only known round in my life with multiple birdies, so I was pretty disappointed...

It wasn't a horrible day putting overall, as it was only 36 putts for the round, but I 3-putted for bogey twice. One of which was a tricky green and a long initial putt, but the other was simply inexcusable. And a couple other holes where I took too many strokes pitching.

I should be able to get to the range a couple times this week. Then I have my kids for 10 days straight for both of the next two weekends, so I'm going to try to take my son to the range and the short game practice area on Easter Sunday, and then take him to the 9 hole exec course the following Sunday. Then hopefully a few more range sessions, before my next "real" round 3 weeks from now. Hopefully by then this swing change is a little more normal.

I am no longer going to update this thread. Because I'm working with Monte, "Swing Videos and Comments" is probably not the right venue for me to track my progress as I try to improve.

For those interested in following my progression, I've opened another thread:

Well - Valtiel - you are spot on . I do absolutely go against modern swing instruction and I make NO apologies for the knowledge I possess. I definitely understand how different my messages are and I  can’t begin to tell you proud I am of that .
I spent 25 years spending thousands taking lessons from at least 79-80 instructors trying to achieve my dreams and I learned NOTHING !
I was at the end of my rope and desperate, but fortunately I stumbled upon Gerry Hogan and he taught  me to “ think for myself and to “ QUESTION ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING I WAS TOLD  OR READ “ about the golf swing .
It is very obvious that your goal is to promote Monte ! Good for you . I would suggest players go see him . I would also suggest they listen to everyone and sort out what they perceive as being just theory and opinion and decide for themselves . Most humans have the necessary abilities to decide what is right for them.
I understand that the information I post will ONLY be interesting to a very few who are at their wits end searching for answers that are NOT available to them .

Thanks for your reply . Hope to hear from you often !
