Impact Bag Recommendations

Looking for a heavy bag that can withstand and hold up to a 6iron SS of 95+mph.

Impact bags are of little use once you understand what impact is supposed to be. I rarely see someone whose ability to pose easily translates into the ability to create a different impact position.

I agree, instead of swinging to a position people should be swinging through a position. Stopping momentum and inertia at impact would be like taking a flight from NYC to LA and stopping in Chicago.

Spend the money on lessons, or a nice single malt, or both.

When asked why he didn't dunk, Clyde (that's Walt Frazier to most) explained that you can get hurt dunking a basketball, and getting hurt isn't cool.

 

Swinging 95+ mph 6i, lol,  into an impact bag is silly and will get you hurt.

I like the impact bag. But don't buy one, the commercial ones are useless. I stuffed cushions into an old bit of carry on luggage, a soft bag. Wrapped it in towels and tied it together with some old yoga belts. I have a chair against a wall and a big rolled up sleeping bag against the chair and the impact bag against the sleeping bag. I can hit the thing as hard as I want without breaking anything including me. 

Even though I hit it hard I still keep a few things in mind. I place the bag opposite my lead foot so impact is slightly ahead of where the ball would be, and I try and square the clubface into the bag. I'm not holding any angles, I'm trying to release the club as much as possible. I keep both feet planted and start to feel my body pushing back against the impact. 

I couldn't tell you if it helps because I've been doing it for years. But it hasn't hurt and it's nice to be able to smash something sometimes.

Maybe it's just for my mental health!

I suggest checking out Mike Bender's Instagram page. He uses an impact bag fairly often with his top tier golfers, but only for one purpose. The purpose is not to smash away. Rather, he exclusively has the bag placed against an open edge of a wall and instructs the student to cause the bag to turn to the right when struck. This to engrain an inside out clubhead path.

Impact bags are fine when used with healthy doses of common sense, as they could cause injury at speed if the user lacks skills and muscle tone when dealing with that much resistance.   They can, however, reveal what resistance will do to a mass alignments at impact.

Get this one. It’s the original all the other ones are crap. This one is very good material and will not break you can hit is as hard as you want. It’s the same one as bender and Kyle Morris use on their pages.
