Cincinnati golf clubs

Moving to Cincinnati and curious about the different country clubs. I know Camargo is ranked highest with Coldstream next, but with people that know what are the differences/order most people see the clubs. Specifically Camargo, Coldstream, Cincinnati Country Club, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Makatewah, etc. And cost if anyone has any idea. Thanks

I'm guessing by your list geography favors those clubs?

Not necessarily. Im pretty familiar with the NKY clubs just didnt have as much info on the Cincinnati clubs. Any info is appreciated

Unless things have changed, you likely won't be able to join Camargo without an invite or at least being sponsored by another member. It has a small/exclusive membership and the course itself is basically holy ground for the golf architecture crowd.

Any considerations other than golf as far as amenities go? Looking for family friendly/etc?

I am not sure at the moment whether I will go the country club route with pools, etc or just a golf club. Depends on if we have a pool at home (looking at houses now). Really just wanted the lay of the land as far as quality of courses, how well you are treated, good games/players, and the other amenities are also nice to know. This will help me on location of the house too as we are looking in a variety of areas. That along with general idea of price would be very helpful. Thanks

Is there a budget you are trying to stay in or cost is irrelevant? Also are you open to clubs in Cincy suburbs or more just within Cincy proper. It would help people give you the best information if we had a bit more detail.

I really didn’t give even information so here is where I am:

-initiation under $50,000

-monthly under $1,000 (i’m under 40)

-prefer places with a pool/country club atmosphere but isn’t mandatory as I want the best golf experience - the other items are just bonuses for my family which they will use on occasion

-prefer within 25 miles from cincy/nky airport

-I realize some are extremely hard to get into but I do know quite a few people in Cincinnati/NKY just am hoping to get info from some on here that know more about all the clubs instead of calling my friends first - they will naturally just say theirs is the best

-I know some have undergone/are undergoing renos lately so the information I do have is likely outdated

I haven't lived in Cincinnati in a while, but if I was going to go back there, I would look at the following places based on proximity to where I would want to live.

Camargo - though probably not realistic

Coldstream - Would be very interested in the Keith Foster renovation/restoration. Might be too expensive.

Hyde Park - No idea on cost, but location is fantastic

Maketewah - The partnership with X has really helped their practice facilities. Seems to have a more chill vibe than some places. Strong Ross

Clovernook - I realize the location is a bit of a drawback, but if they are truly working with Renaissance Golf and they are going to cut down trees, the place could be great. Green complexes are amazing and the land is quite good. But it's like hitting it down a hallway in spots now.

It seems like they are doing work at Terrace Park and that place could be cool, but haven't seen it. Kenwood was too expensive when I lived there and I have never played it. I think Western Hills is good value if you are going to live on the west side.

If I was going to live in NKY, I would consider both Traditions and Triple Crown. Played Traditions for the first time in a long time a couple of years ago and the clubhouse felt dated. Don't love all the houses at Triple Crown and it is far south, but seems like a very healthy club.

I'm just not familiar enough with the stuff outside of 275 to have a real POV. I do think TPC is good for what it is.

You have all you need IMO. Aren't friends the best resource for trusted information? They can give their opinion about clubs/their clubs, but I doubt they are so biased so to say join my place it's better than everywhere. It is your decision and they would respect that. Get a spreadsheet going and start filling in a ton of information on each of your targets, via friends. Then you could approach almost all of them to get current financials if your buddies don't know. Most clubs are pretty open if you show interest as a prospective member to provide it, many will invite you even for a visit.

Point being if you have a network of friends, use them that is what friends do for each other. If you are moving to a new city you don't know anyone then that is totally different. I would think you could be the go to Cinny guy in a month after tapping into your friends and share with the rest of us.
