G425 vs SIM2 vs Tsi3

onafriday

Recommended Posts

I would love to see more direct comparisons between the G425 and SIM2, especially as some of you seem to be starting to demo both.  I’m a fan of my 410 LST and had been looking forward to 425.   The initial  reviews seem.... tepid?  I know it’s super early.

Sort of side eyeing the SIM2.  Lusting even.  Maybe.  Curious about Tsi3 as well.  Sort of.  Never really looked at a Titleist driver before.

Direct comps appreciated!

I think this year is going to be more of the same:

LOW SPIN

SIM2 > 425LST

FOREGIVENESS/ MOI

425MAX > SIM2 MAX

SOUND/ LOOKS/ OPTIONS

SIM2 seems like it will introduce custom color options (love this). The rest is subjective but I will say the 425 line is the best a PING driver has ever looked

Well Ping just won the driver count at the tournament of champions so what does that tell you.  And the winner of the tourney played a ping driver.  So....😉

Just coming off of back surgery and just started swinging again, but I compared the 425 max vs. the Sim2.  Very small sample size, but was completely underwhelmed with the Ping, especially the sound.  Typical Ping forgiveness, but the sound for me was horrible.  Like I said, small sample size, but initial response is the 410 is every bit as good and better sounding.

Sim2 on the other hand, and I'm not in anyway a TM fanboy, blew the Ping out of the water.  Sound and feel were much improved over the original Sim.  I'm sure the Ping is more forgiving, but I was more consistent with the TM.  For me if I was going to game either of these, I would find the head and shaft combo for the TM.

Looking forward to hearing more on this one too. Currently gaming a SIM Max but we haven't gotten along great. I'll demo them both once our season starts back up but I'd love some early impressions from the WRXers.

Watched Michael Newtons review of the G425 vs his G400 driver.

Just based on the sound, I have no intention of considering the G425 driver or any other Ping driver.

I've hit the G425 Max outside and it's a softball bat.  Reminds me a lot of the Cobra L4V.  And as a result I've already Hotmelted 4 in my shop.

The sound of the ping is horrible IMO sticking with the tsi2, and as far as taylormade their drivers never work out for me but make great products.  I was hoping the ping g425 would be the driver for 21 but sticking with the new titleist line which is amazing.

Hit the new Ping heads yesterday. Sound is terrible on the Max compared to my Sim Max. Coming off of COVID, so my swing was not great at all, but I would say little if any, forgiveness differences between the 425 and my Sim Max.

With drivers, I am probably staying with my G410 Plus for now. I'm not a fan of turbulators but I want high MOI, so the G425 doesn't bring much to the table except cosmetics.

But with fairway woods, I love a clean club head, especially one with matte finish, which is why I'm going G425 in the fairway woods and why I am not crazy about TaylorMade.

Based on my testing the 425 Max is noticeably more forgiving than the SIM Max.  Like not even in the same ball park.  Sim Max sounds and feels much better though, agree.

Let's say the the sound from the driver at impact last's 1.5 seconds.  You hit your driver 14 times a round. That equates to 20 seconds a round of this "unpleasant sound".  I will take that plus a few extra fairways hit per round.

yes -  technically true, but based on the sound you may end up dreading hitting it, which has measurably more impact on the result.  It is how I felt about the Rogue fairways.  They sounded like crap and over time, how I felt about them influenced my result too often - and out they went.

I’ve liked Ping drivers (and still keep a Rapture V2 in the backup bag).  But listening to all the videos, the 425 Max doesn’t have my preferred sound.  I’ll test it against my TS2 and the new TSI drivers to see what makes the bag this year.

Early reviews of Sim 2 seem favorable, but somewhat lateral.  Same as 410 to 425.  In case of the Sim I am reading incrementally better, and in Pings case perhaps marginally a step backwards.

I would appreciate any further takes.

thanks

This is the best most honest review I’ve seen on the Ping G425. Crossfield “who is sponsored by Srixon” said that if you are buying a driver this year, you MUST try the Ping G425! I would say that is a big and bold statement.

Cuz we all know if ur sponsored by one company u can’t be paid by anyone else?

Would be highly unlikely his Srixon contract would allow that. He is simply saying the Ping G425 is one of the best drivers, which it is.

IMHO Equipment reviewers should be prohibited from signing equipment contracts to avoid conflict of interest.  Other than Crossfield, who else has equipment contacts?  How about TXG and Rick Shields? I hope they do not.

I love TM drivers but in recent years I hit more fairways with Ping. I expect the same with the G425s.
