ZipCore Raw vs SM8

I have moved to Srixon ZX7 from T100s this coming season.

My OCD is telling me my Irons and Wedges need to match.

Ive played the Same Wedge Combo for 10+ years 52f 56s 60m

 

How do the Zip Core Wedges compare to the SM8.  I would likely do Mid Grind for all of them usually play pretty square faced shots and use the 56 everywhere.  60 from Sand only and sometimes short sided shots from rough only.  Im not skilled enough to use the 60 from tight lies.

 

Anyone compare the 2 wedges? 

 

I'll have no problem playing Sm8 again but Ive had / enjoyed Cleveland Wedges in the past on and off.

Certainly no knock on the SM8's, but if the bounce and grinds fit you it's just as quality a wedge.  I actually think the leading edge sits a little lower on the Zipcore's when opened up a little.  The V-sole is the real deal and helps out on some of the full and 1/2 swings as well.  GL.

I have done this comparison extensively before I moved onto Zipcore.

 

Previously used SM7, then moved onto RTX 4 for 50, 54 and 58 combo.

 

Then I wanted to try 52 and 58 combo as I wanted to add 3 iron to my set so started my search.

 

On full shots (which I rarely make on my wedges) SM8 and Zipcore gave identical results.

 

However, the reason why I chose Zipcore over SM8 is partial shots had more bite to it (95% of my wedge shots are half to 3/4 swing). Also I was able to custom order Zipcore wedges with the shaft I wanted without extra charge. To make the deal even sweeter, Zipcore was cheaper than SM8 while it was performing on par (or even better on partial) so it was a no brainer for me.

Wish I would have seen this before I decided to do the same thing. 🤣   I too wanted to add another club to the top of my bag (4UT or Hybrid).  So dropping a wedge and moving to 46, 52, 58 from 45, 49, 54, 60.   I grabbed a Zipcore 46, 52, 58 to go with Srixon 4-9 and also grabbed a SM8 52F and SM7 58D to use with Srixon 4-PW.   Should be an interesting experiment...also, wondering how the Zipcore 46 will perform compared to the Srixon set PW.    Thanks for the info.

In the nicest way possible, golf should be about playing your best, not looking your best. If you're comfortable with the grinds you've been playing and have been using them for 10 years, I'd not be blindly changing just so your clubs "can match" (is it really matching with wedges and irons?). I'd be doing an in depth wedge fit OFF GRASS. 

 

There are SO many pros who are staffers for brands other than Titleist who still have Vokeys in the bag. In any event, I've tried the Clevelands and found the leading edge to be a bit sharper and didn't love the way they played when it was sloppy. Feel had a bit more of a clip to it. IMO the 56S plays higher bounce and is much more forgiving through the turf for a go anywhere wedge compared to the 56 Mid and the 60M is quite a bit different to both the 60Low and 60Mid. I think to get close to the mix of versatility and turf forgiveness you have you'd have to go customized tour rack.
