P770, Apex 19, or Z765?

Ok, so I said 24 hours, but I have a tentative decision made after 6 hours!

 

Supposed to meet up with someone in the morning to pick up the new clubs, and if all goes well I’ll post a picture with the winner!

 

Thanks to everyone for your insights and advice...got some great info and made me do more research into the shaft options available.

 

The 2 finalists were a set of Apex Pro 19’s and TM P770’s, and both have the Project X Rifle 6.0 shaft in them.
 

I think I’ll be able to handle the lower spin, lower trajectory/further distance and could end up being a positive change since my last Irons/shafts in the Tour Preferred tending to launch up to the moon and had tons of spin. And if it’s not a fit, I’ll just flip them in the Spring/Summertime.

I think your plan is tad hasty. The irons listed all good. 
 

Shafts quite different. 
 

You  are tall and athletic. I suspect the 95g part of the old shafts were a bad fit. I have gone down to95g but I am middle aged with tendonitis 😀

 

 dg300 paired  to the srixon sounds like a good start. If you prefer smidge thinner top line go 770. 
 

I have had mine since 2017 and really like them. I can’t comment on  the px shafts. Stock were typically kbs flt 120s. 
 

The 770s are just solid CBs with traditional ish lofts. As much of a fan as I am I want to see you in the right shaft first.

My previous Irons were extended by 1” and were 1* upright, and my wedges were extended by 1.25”.

I have the Kbs Tour x in them. I am

not as educated on shafts as most members seem To be.  so dont go by my choice. 
 I have have only been able to use them On the range a few cold days but I like the feel and ball flight.  
So far so good 🤞🏼

For sure, it is hasty...patience has never been my strength, Lol!

 

My line of thinking is that TaylorMade gear is so red hot right now that if the irons aren’t a good fit, I can easily flip them for the same price or for a profit in the Spring.

 

So if I get the P770’s (giving away the ending), and the shaft isn’t the right fit, I can flip them easily.

 

For the other irons I mentioned, the KBS Tour shaft was X-Stiff and the Srixon set was only 5-PW. Still looking at the Apex 19 w/ True Temper Elevate Tour shaft, or can keep looking.

Good to hear, thanks! Yeah, I think I’m going to try the P770’s with the Project X Rifle 6.0’s and see how it goes. Love the look and think there should be added distance and forgiveness from my Tour Preferred’s which is the main thing I’m looking for. Worst-case if the shaft isn’t a fit, I can flip them back onto the used market and break even or make a profit. The Apex 19 with the Elevate shaft is tempting too, but I’m worried about having too much loft like I did with the Tour Preferred...we’ll see how it goes!

I obviously like the 770's Baller, I just hope they are what you are looking for. I don't expect them to be that much different then your TPs in terms of flight as is: the shaft combo should may play very different for you. 

 

 790's seem to retain more value due to demand from what I have observed in browsing listings and such the past year. I think that is a combination of limited market (Players CB vs. more help) and rather meh bag appeal compared to other brands offerings a few years ago. I'm find with that: makes it easier to scoop up 400-600 used sets for those in the know 🙂

I guess we’ll see. The biggest issues I had with the Tour Preferred were loss of distance and ballooning flight, which I think the P770’s with PX Rifle 6.0 should help with...but only time will tell.

 

For our market here in the Toronto area, TaylorMade is red hot and anything I’ve posted for sale in the last 6 months has sold within 3-4 days (usually within 24hrs), either for break even prices or for profit. On the other hand Callaway and Srixon gear sits on the market for weeks many times at much lower prices.

 

So best-case, I’ll love the P770 head and shaft combo and game them for the next 2-3 years, and worst-case I’ll flip them and they’ll sell within a couple of days...either way it’s a Win!

And the winner is....*drumroll*...the TM P770’s w/ Project X Rifle 6.0 shafts!! 
 

Thanks to everyone for your advice and insights...it really helped to get all the additional information on the Iron heads and shafts especially! After doing more research on the PX Rifle 6.0’s, and also holding and swinging the clubs, I’m hoping they end up being a great fit for me! I like the added weight and firmness of them, and like I said the super high trajectory of my old Tour Preferred’s (and maybe lightness) w/ True Temper XP 95 S300’s was one of my biggest issues with them.

 

Also FYI, the runner ups ended up being the Srixon Z765’s w/ the DG S300 shafts, largely because of the feedback you guys gave me, and the reviews I read. If the P770’s don’t work out for whatever reason, my next irons will probably be Srixon.
