Radar Euro tour announcer

He’s like the Gary McCord of the euro tour. Never shuts up. Usually the euro tour is more enjoyable because the announcers aren’t yapping every second. This guy makes it hard to watch. Of course that’s just my opinion

I'm a Yorkshireman, and for several years I worked alongside an Aussie with a particularly biting wit, so I have an affinity for dry, sarcastic humour.

 

McCord always struck me as someone who was enjoyable in small doses but irritating in excess. I felt the same about Feherty. I could listen to Radar all day long, though.  He does rabbit on a bit when he's given free rein, but it's usually entertaining stuff.

I enjoy the Euro commentators and their golf product much better. 

 

They show more players and talk less.

Radar is a legend. He played in Pro AM events at my club in the 1980s. Absolute gentleman.

He certainly loves the sound of his own voice, but I quite like him. He generally has good insights on what club or shot a pro is about to hit and he brings some levity to proceedings.

 

I understand why others would be turned off though.

Not going to hear too many complaints from me.  Yeah could dial back a few words, but I like knowing he's on the broadcast.

Radar is a solid as the come. Perfect foil for so many of the commentators that we have this side of the pond.

Do they actually show golf unlike CBS?  CBS spends time attacking players because the main announcer never played the game.

If you are speaking of Jim Nantz @ CBS he played golf in college at the University Of Houston with Fred Couples. Has golfed most of his life. Nice screed though. 😖

Nantz was good enough to play at Houston... On the same team as Fred Couples (they were roommates).

My main gripe with Radar is that he uses the term "slither" all the time for a narrow fairway instead of "sliver".

 

I'm not usually pedantic but in this case it's the same misuse of the term that my mother in law frequently makes, therefore a public tarring and feathering would be wholly appropriate.

Watched Radar play the Aussie tour back in the day when we had one, great player but didn't like him, as on course commentator I love him, he's great for the game, and his PING series on you tube is worth a watch, he's doing a good job and very knowledgeable.

I watched Riley a lot during his heyday when he played European Tour events. He always struck me as a bit moody and if things weren't going well he could glower with the best of them.

 

Contrast that to now, and he's like a different man. He strolls around, always conspicuous in his modified Akubra hat, always smiling, and he chats away to the crowd like there's no tomorrow with a wickedly barbed sense of humour. He was a fine player, but he seems to have found an outlet for his mischievousness and cheeky sense of humour in his current role as a roving commentator.

A fellow at my club in Canada was from Lancaster(I'm assuming that is what it was, he referred to what sounded like "Lancashire").  Said other than his wife, there were only two good things to come out of Yorkshire: the pudding, and the road to "lancashire."
