Recommend me a putter based on face rotation

I average around 3.5 degrees of face rotation in my putting stroke, with a tendency to leave the face open slightly, like .7 degrees. Based on that, would you recommend a face balanced or a slight arc style putter?  I also tend to add about a degree of loft in my swing, so thinking of bending it a degree strong.  Thanks for the help.

What kind of putter do you use now? Are you able to add weight or increase weight toward the face?

like everyone else on here, a bunch of different ones.  Typically Scotty 5.5 , Spider or Newport 2 are the ones I go to.

Were those numbers (3.5 rotation,. 7 open) with the 5.5?

I think those are actually with the spider with a slant neck, but they really arent much different with either of those two.

If you're leaving the face open stay away from face balanced.

personally I think I take the putter a little outside in on my putts, and it open it a bit to square the face at impact, because they do go straight down a line or even slightly left but registers as the face is open slightly.

Face balanced will tend to have less rotation, back and through.  So if the open face is caused by too much rotation going back, the face balance could actually help keep the face more "square".

 

I would go ahead and try face balanced with offset

They have more than you think, face balance wants to open up to the face up position. So a face balanced putter is perfect if you're putting side saddle as it wouldn't open up and stay square.

I assume your path is really close to .5-1 degree left at impact. Meaning you have an open face that counters your leftward path. If that's the case, based on bruce rearick's stroke types, a high moi face balanced mallet would be perfect.

Yeah but can't deny physics, that's all the LAB golf guys are showing. Doesn't even have to be about their putters just shows what a face balanced putter and toe hang putter actually does.

David Edel has a number of videos saying the face rotation stuff is crap. His new EAS torque balanced putters are very good

Ive tried the LAB putters, couldnt handle the weird look or grip. Also tried Edel putters and thought they felt hollow.

Heel shafted options like Odyssey #9 and Scotty Del Mar (Newport 3) should be great.

 

Slant Neck mallets if you prefer higher MOI and bigger size.

 

In another words, any putter with slight to moderate toe hang will work really well.

I'm not saying you have to try them or use them more listen to the info they post, a lot of the info people post about is wrong. There is no such thing as a SBST stroke, face balanced isn't face balanced, toe flow is BS and closer to opposite of what people claim it really is.

What grip are you using?  I had this same issue with my putter.  I have always used a Newport 2 style putter and during my tinkering I added a super stroke grip.  I went for a fitting for a new putter as I was leaving everything right but was also looking to change to a mallet for more forgiveness.  During the fitting, he gave me a Flowback 5.5 off the rack to try with similar toe hang and I started throwing darts.  He immediately suggested that the size of the super stroke grip was the issue.  After placing a red star pro only Golf pride grip on my original putter, I was releasing the putter and getting it back to square at impact.  If you cant get fit, got to a local golf store find a putters with similar hang but different grips and see if you are getting the same results.

I think the face balanced/toe hang for face closure is an open ended debate. Plenty of theories and data to support both. To be honest, it comes down to the player. Some respond to the feeling of torque of face opening with counter force, to close that gate so to speak. Some do not. What i have found is if you are delivering it with an open face consistently its likely because the path is out to in and you are countering that with an open face. A “cut” putting stroke. Can work amazing somedays and you can really struggle on other days. If i had to guess you hit slightly toeside of center as well.

I ended up picking up a spider with an L neck. Was still hitting it slightly open.  I swapped out the grip for a flatso 2.0 and now I average closed at impact.  The search continues.

This would tell me that it's more grip than it is putter. Surprisingly, the grip is just as, if not, more important than the putter head and it's generally overlooked. If that grip is not on square, the face angle directly suffers.

Try a full round grip like the ones Edel sells.

They are weird but how was your aim with them? Honestly if you aim it straight and start sinking putts it won't be that weird.

This is why I like my P2 Aware grip. The flat sides let me know exactly where the face is

I threw one on my scotty fastback 1.5 and while I did put decent with it, it was too strange and didn't feel good enough to keep.
