The Stack System

Maybe someone can answer this here. When you generally train you need time for rest and recovery weight training, whatever it is. When I started doing the Stack it was like every other day and never any rest to recover. When are you supposed to rest up? Or is that part of they are smarter than me and just trust the process? Also, if you play a lot it seems like its hard to fit in Stacking and playing.

I've been thru several routines on the Stack, and like you it was every other day to begin with.  Eventually it started having me insert another day (or 2) between workouts.  It appeared to me that this was done in reaction to my progress, or the way it was slowing.  I thought it was very similar to lifting weights:  If you can train each muscle 3 days per week and make progress ... Do it!  Eventually you probably have to back off the frequency or burn out.  I believe the Stack app behaves similarly.

This is my third offseason with the Stack and for the most part now I only do it  January through say mid March. And even then, I'm using it to work on swing changes or things I might be working on and how fast I can be working on those. I'm not trying to blast through Heavy Hitters or anything like that.

When I started out in late '22, I was mixing it in to my regular workouts with cardio/dumbbells/kettlebells. But now I think I have such a good schedule going, I benefit more from the rest day or two during the week than in trying to fit in another exercise routine.

I think it works and as i've said before, in the winter its absolutely better than nothing. But I wont do it during the season anymore especially since I've been playing more club tournaments. I know you can get injured anywhere doing anything but ts just another variable for potential injury that I've removed from the rest of my season. And IMO that would go for any speed training.

Not saying that approach is for everyone, its just how I'm going about it.

It recommended the full speed spectrum again but because there were many other programs, I steered away on my own. I weight lift 4-5x weekly so I didn't think it would be a problem throwing heavy weight, and it wasn't for the first 10 sessions. But now I'm forced to lose grit to recover and prevent injury. Also liked the idea that heavy hitter stated it would improve driver accuracy but I've lost at least 6-8 mph and yeahhh.

Where does HH state this and any thoughts on why HH improves accuracy?

Ok that's good to know. I keep not making it through a routine for one or another, either the season starts or something.

I absolutely think its beneficial and like you said, better then nothing during the winter.

During the season are you dropping completely or doing any of the less intense routines?

I need some faith! I completed the Full Speed Spectrum program and retested yesterday. I started at 102 mph and at retest my speed had dropped to 92 mph! Not the results I was hoping for.

I use the stick in my garage, unheated, and sometimes at the gym, heated. I’m pretty good about Stscking 2 or 3 times per week. I also workout a few times a week (weights, Fit For Golf), ride a stationary bike once or twice a week, and do Pilates once a week.

The App has suggested that I do the Neural Drive program. I’m a little leery about continuing because I don’t want to lose even more speed.

Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do?

I drop it completely. I am hitting balls or playing 4-5 days a week during the season. I use the Peloton plus light dumbbell work on top of that. But I just dont want to take the risk of injuring myself doing speed training when I play so much and have so many events to get ready for. But this time of year, sure, its definitely worth it.

The Heavy Hitter is particularly helpful for the athlete wanting to smooth out tempo and improve functional range of movement of key power producing muscles.  The initial focus is on using Stack masses that exceed the inertia of the driver.

****The Heavy Hitter is ideal for golfers wanting increased control of their driver’s movement.****

The Heavy Hitter consists of 24 sessions and takes approximately 8 weeks to complete.

Personally I don't recommend the program cause if has really set me back after gaining through the previous 12 months. But then again I don't like to spend time warming up and the program requires you to start your first set with 255g 8 times, followed by 300g 16 times, finishing with 195g 5 times. It killed me and only way I could think of speed training was once a week and even then I couldn't maintain previous speeds.

Took 4 months to feel 100%, it sucked. Nothing worked other than time haha

Mine was similar to getting back 100% and feeling confident without the wrap.  I actually went out a week later with a "grandpa swing", knocking drives out there 220 and actually shot one of my better rounds of the season! (go figure!)  I think the extra math of "clubbing up" and rolling into greens as opposed to hitting long, high approaches helped keep my MIND in it better than usual.  I definitely needed to ice after that one, but my stretching and strengthening regimen that I undertook seemed to work fairly well!

@hunterdogWhat did you end up doing?  As @DLiver stated, it has to be overtraining.  FSS is a lot of work in each session, like 25% more swings than Foundation.  When I was doing FSS and hitting the gym 3x per week last month, I felt tired and was in a long plateau.  Sometimes, 72 hours between FSS sessions wasn't enough recovery for me.

The App recommended the Neural Drive program. I sent a message to The Stack. The response was that I likely tested poorly and that I might not be resting enough between sets. I am going to do the recommended program, at least for a while and see if my numbers will improve.

So I just completed my first foundations program in roughly 68 days. Had some work travel in there but generally was able to keep grit score up with an overall of 94%. I have seen decent gains that are showing themselves on the course by taking driver lines I previously couldn’t.

There has been a lot of talk around working out and Stacking: what worked for me and coincided with where I saw the biggest jumps was doing a Fit For Golf resistance band program right before my Stack session. I would complete my workout (about 45 minutes) and jump right into Stack. If I couldn’t certify my warmup, I would do a couple minutes of dynamic warmup movements and try again. This epiphany came after emailing with Sasho and him telling me that before you start stacking, your warm-up should have you sweating.

Here are my results. Playing speed on-course moved from 100-101mph to about 110mph.

13 mph in 2 months?

The Stack eSpeed increased 16mph, however those are based on Max Intent swings which are faster than one would swing during a round of golf.  I have seen 5-9mph increase on the course and is highly dependent on my warmup before golfing.

In a few days I have to do the progress check and I’ll see where I stand relative to initial progress check.

Mine was similar going from 102 to 115 on the stack. And that’s with gym muscle fatigue. I presume I can get higher once I am removed from my heavy lifting in about a month.

Can’t recommend the Stack enough. I’ve gone through Foundations and FSS now. I started with a 105 CHS w my driver. In a trackman session yesterday I was averaging 119 and dispersion was very reasonable. Saw my first 180 ball speed

Going to try heavy hitter next, learning how to generate speed has me hitting it a lot straighter too. I’m really excited for golf season this year with this new distance. My avg driving distance per Shot Scope LY was 275. Now I’m averaging 315 on Trackman.

Best training aid I’ve ever had IMO

Im also a 40 YO man. I wish this was around when I was younger!

That’s why I wish they’d put some max swings in the progress check. Start is always based on full swings but current is based on max. It won’t happen though as it’s part of how they market it.

I think this was the basis of the lawsuit SuperSpeed filed against The Stack.

Progress check completed and the results seem to match what I expected. The nice thing with progress check is that it’s done at FULL intent instead of MAX intent which were all the swings at the end of foundation’s program.

One thing I found difficult was to swing repeatedly at FULL intent. MAX is easy but trying to swing FULL without going too easy was an interesting challenge. In any case, if I got major outliers I redid it. Also for driver, FULL was just comfortable right around 110mph which correlated nicely to what I saw on course. During the baseline test I wanted to check and did a hard swing (still in balance) and was able to get up to 118mph without issue (no ball, no worry about face or path, right? Haha)

Needless to say I am quite happy with the work I put in and looking forward to starting NEURAL DRIVE this Friday.

FWIW, I still think there is a lot of value in making "max" swings while hitting balls on the range as part of one's training. The idea is to swing as hard as you can without caring about where the ball goes. I think this helps you learn how to hit the middle of the clubface while swinging hard.

Definitely! The Stack app has the special session for speed priming with balls for this purpose.

I saw some videos from the PGA show of the new wedge practice feature. Looking forward to that going live.

Did they make mention to requirements for it? I heard about it on a podcast as well and it sounds like it will be a wedge combine, so that’s exciting!  I heard the catch is you have to use the Stacks branded PRGR launch monitor.

I agree. That is the hard part and partially why my progress check was lower than my baseline significantly even though according to foundations I shoulda gained 14 mph. It was also 36° which played a factor.
