Titleist/Mizuno

Regardless of someone from titleist saying “ thinner face “ or not.  It cannot be true on a spring type level.    If you made a solid clubs face thinner. You’d reduce ballspeed. Not increase it.  Less mass behind the ball.

Id say this  is a case of meaning “ more ballspeed “ and saying “ thinner face “. The ballspeed will come from lower loft.

Besides. We can bust  this myth too.  All we need is a top bottom and middle measurement of at100s. And compare to measurement of t100.  Easy enough to make happen.

I thought the T100 (and AP2) was marketed as a thin face iron?  I'm not saying the T100s has a thinner face than T100, I'm just trying to understand your comment about it being a 'solid faced club'.  For example, the T100 marketing includes- "The 1.8mm thick face is forged from SUP10 steel and combines feel with reduced weight".  Also, I recall the 718 AP2 be marketed as the thinnest faced AP2 yet.  So isn't the T100 (and AP2) a multicomponent, spring face design?

Edit-  I think the T100 (AP2) spring/thin face design (and/or marketing) is for the mid and long irons.

I have a t100 4 iron and cb 5-pw. They do feel different. The t100 has more of a hollow ”pop” feel. I think there is more mass/thicker face on the cb, but i dont know if t100 face is spring/or cup...guess you would have to look at ct measurements to determine that.

@brew4eagle

I thought I also read the sole/bounce was modified so that the 2 degrees less loft didn't provide less bounce (ie, it wasn't identical to bending a T100 2* strong).  Basically, this approach of different head designs to accommodate the loft change seems a way to set Titleist apart from the "Power Spec" approach of PING where the heads are not tweaked at all to account for the loft changes.”

they didnt take a t100 and actually bend them strong. They have a different mold for sure, so yes the bounce and soles are in line with what they should be. As far as “differences” im not so sure there is any, and if so its so extremely minute, it wont make any noticeable difference. But again, that last part is just my opinion.

From a performance stand point do we really need new iron models every 2 years? I mean are the Mizuno 921’s really better than the 919’s? Or is it just a case of keeping up with the competition when they introduce a new iron? Every time an iron upgrade comes out half the posters here love it, the other half wish it had been left alone. From a business standpoint planned obsolescence has always been a good strategy. There is always someone who has to have the latest and greatest.

There is no great difference. You could play JPX forged 850, 900, 919 or 921 and see nothing different in performance.

Is it just me or did the CBs feel really harsh? Almost like a cast club. I was 99% certain I was going to get the CBs but ended up with the T100's as they felt nicer to me.

Supposedly there is an mp iron coming that is in between the mb and mmc in size, kinda like the mp18 sc size that was missing in the mp20 line. Jpx tour kinda filled that spot recently but they are coming out with an mp iron

i'm due for new irons next year.  The mmc is a little large looking to me in the mid irons.  I'd like another set exactly like what I have actually.  I know this is very against the grain here but I love my mizunos and don't need anything more or less from an iron set.  please come out with something that blends a little better with the blade short irons. 🙂

What would actually be a good thing on Titleist part  - would be if the decided to just keep the 620 MB/CB as is for another cycle and iterate the other irons as necessary.

There is probably something they can do so that they don’t have the T100 / T100S thing happen - but not sure they can do much to the T200 / T300.  No opinion on the T400.

I am probably in the minority, but I actually think they have too many irons,  let’s see what happens.

do you think the T100s / T100 will be morphed into something else? I am about to pull the trigger on the  T100-S  so im hoping they do not discontinue these anytime soon

To be honest - not sure.  I mean, the T100 is their most popular iron in tour.  It will more or less stay the same - cosmetic changes at best.

Another poster described the the T100S is just the T100 in a powerspec loft (Ping nomenclature).  I never thought of it that way before,  it is a good description.

The T100/T100S was successful for Titleist - maybe this time they release at the same time!

🙂

If you are in the market,  I would not hesitate on the T100.  I like mine and am not looking to change.  First time in a long time I can say that.
