What'd You Shoot Today?

Due to some freaky weather patterns, our course let us know the 18 hole course was still open, so pulled out my clubs from winter storage and went out and shot a horrible 89 (+7 net). Greens were in winter mode, so no mowing. Just sand, aerated, and best I can describe it, serrated - in other words absolutely horrid. Didn’t roll true, jump skipped and hopped, and speed was random across the green and course. Lookin back on the round, can honestly say it cost me about 9 shots on the putting green, and some bad approach play as I went pin hunting to try to not give me long putts. 2 lost balls - not OB  but lost them in the sun and had no idea where it landed and so couldn’t find it within the allotted 3 min. Rough also in winter mode so a bit thicker than normal.

 

Now it looks like I’m done with outdoor golf for this year…🥲

Yup - and due to extended warm weather (>0C) course stayed open one more week and I shot a just as bad 87 yesterday. Greens were such that hard to tell the green from the fringes LOL. 
 

Drove the ball well but couldn’t buy a GIR and with the soggy conditions recovery play was bad. Started with a birdie (yay) and then downhill from there. 3 doubles (1 OB), and only 4 pars. 36 putts which is 5 over my season average of 31.  

Shanked 3 times which never happened this season so obviously my iron play has regressed this season which maybe due to the fact I’ve been focusing play off the tee. 
 

Lots to work on this offseason.

91 at Legacy Ridge in Westminster CO from the blacks. First time playing the track and could not get off the tee until about hole 7. Had a blast and loved breaking in my new Artisan wedges.

Mixed range and SG session. Heading out in an hour. All new ammo stowed until Spring. Leaves have dropped. Note. Keep ball in play, or lose it.

79 on a par 71 with 5 par 3s. 35-36... Three 3 putts and a missed 5 foot birdie will do that to you.

42 42 10 pars and several disasters. Lost a ball in the leaves. Back tomorrow for more punishment.

41-37 78. Had 3 birdies in 4 holes around the turn and missed 6 footers for birdies on 17 and 18. Was 6 over 6 and struggling and then played the rest of the course the most solid I have in a long time. Even though I feel I played a few shots better than what I shot it is probably still my most satisfying round of the year.

A couple of firsts for me this AM: shot a personal best 71 a couple of weeks shy of my 62nd birthday.  32 (-2) + 39(+3) = 71.  32 is my best ever score for 9 holes and -2 is my lowest relative to par.  I was leaking a bit of oil down the stretch but sank a clutch 4 foot downhill slider to beat my previous best by a shot nearly 40 years after that 72.  A good day!

Played 9 this morning, It was brutal here 55° Rain 15mph wind.  Shot 39 So I will take that in those conditions!

Sitting in balmy Palm Springs for a week of relaxation and golf. Today was PGA West’s Nicklaus Tournament course. It was a wonderful intro to Tour courses.  
 

Just had a soak in the hot tub and now soothing the achy bones with 75* sunshine. It’s doesn’t suck.

 

Both birdies were kick ins @ less than 3 feet.

Played Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course. Didn't know it was a par 3 when I booked it on Golf Now, but it was the only 8:00 time listed, so I took it. I was +1 for the front and felt ok about it. Then hit the back and fell apart. Finished +5 and humbled. 🤣

Wildwood used to do half of for Veterans Day, but I guess they stopped. He gave me the cart for free, so that was cool. I got an eagle on 4 and it was glorious. Solid drive, perfect second shot just over the creek. Watch said I was 48 yards out, half wedge should work. Perfect strike, heading right at it, that might be close, damn. Finished+2, but the eagle really helped. 🤣

I played here the first time last year, but I feel like this round was better despite the conditions. The weather was amazing, but the course was soaked and the wind was kicking. Peninsula Golf Course, it's fun.

Greens this time of year are way easier to hold. 🤣 +2 for 9 at Surfside Golf Course.

Visited. our local course's new four bay sim setup.  First swings since my appendix was removed on November 13th.  Wasn't so bad.  Core's weak but will rebound fairly quickly now because I can now start exercising again.  Got about 80 shots in and gave up 10-ish yards on the irons.  Fairway woods were reasonably close too.  Driver's new (Titleist TSr4) and needs the right shaft selected and dialed in.  240 average (about 30 yards short of normal) and straight, but felt surprisingly good.  Got the center of the face most of the time. WIN!

 

Oh, it's 34* and breezy.  Ain't no golf outdoors for now.  🥶

Range session yesterday. Distracted by the annoyingly smooth swinging young lady in the next bay. Amazing tempo and arrow straight ball flight. Tried a different 5 wood, and walked away with a Q10 Tour. Workable and 10 yards longer than the Stealth 2. Flatter lie is a godsend.

Sunset Grove. Nobody there when I got there this morning, it was so nice. I had 3 solid birdie looks, only converted one. 🤣 

 

The approach on 6 is hard to see because it's slightly elevated. I didn't know where this one landed until I got up there. It is as awesome.

I played a course l haven't played in 20 years. Greens were rolling really good. Pace of play was good. Temp was in the 50's until hole 14 when the sun finally came out.

 

Birdied one and then matched my worst round of the year 44-45=89.

Played two balls round our top 8 holes. Very wet underfoot. Hot the ball solid and chipped in for birdie on the last.

Rough start to the round today - also need to focus on putting as I have been 3-putting a whole lot more than I'd like to admit (my first ever chance at eagle the other day ended up a s 3-putt par lmao.) 49 on the front and 44 on back. Trying to consistently break that 90 barrier but sometimes I find myself reverting to bad habits before I'm able to realize it.

Had one of my more interesting rounds yesterday… May have been my biggest discrepancy between two 9s. Working on implementing a swing change, and I wasn’t fully committed to it for my woods yet. Ended up spraying them all over on the front before finally settling down and trusting the swing on the back. Very glad I didn’t quit at the turn because I was definitely considering it!

The approach is tough, but the putt is the real killer on 9.
