Even 90 for my first round in over a month. Chipped in on #2 and that was pretty cool.  Missed a 6 foot birdie putt that was not pretty cool.

Still getting winter cobwebs off plus putting a new set of irons in play. Shot a +3 (1 bgy, 1 dbl) on our short 9 hole course - longest hole is about 300 yds but has tricky green areas. I treat it as my range session so left the top of my bag in the car with my 4 iron as the longest. Have absolutely forgotten how to chip - anything 60 yds and in is just embarrassing. If I don’t GIR - I’m struggling. But I had good company on our first warm day - 17C/63F.

My first sub par round at 67 y/o. 🎉 With my backup set, no less!

Went out to get some swings in and I got less than expected. 🤩 A 30 yard chip in for eagle and three solid birdies for a 71 on par 72. I’m taking the rest of the weekend off.

Shot a 76 today, my lowest round in 30yrs...!!

I also hit 120 balls at the range yesterday so I'm currently absolutely knackered. Have a great day all!!!

Yesterday I sucked more than usual. It was a round where nothing was terrible, but everything was bad. Finished with a 99 to avoid triple digits.

Side note, I was told by a marshal to speed up.  This was the first time I have ever been accused of being slow.  I don’t know what the guy was thinking as we were on a 3.5hr pace. (Which is slower than I like to play)

Seem to suffering the same problem as @elwhippy - approach and wedge play are horrible. If it wasn't for my putting I'd have shot way higher. Yesterday's round of 86, +7 net 😬(yardags are in meters), had two shanks, 4 duffs, and 2 skulled chip shots when my driving was the best it's been. GIR's basically tell the story, and I sank quite a few long putts to save the round somewhat. The FIR is a bit misleading - dried up fairways meant I ran out just into the first cut which doesn't really affect your shot this early in the season.

Shot 39-47 for 86 yesterday. Felt and played great on the front 9, then the sun and humidity kicked up on the back and I started making some lazy swings. Starting to feel like I'm trending in the right direction.

Played in a pairs comp yesterday. Tough links track with amazing greens. Two over gross going out. Started back Double, Bogey, Picked Up. All shots lost with awful approach play. Regrouped and then played last six in three over into a strong breeze. Baffled as to why I have these complete brain freezes then come back to hitting it better once the card is ruined.

Recently adjusted Driver loft down a degree, teeing the ball lower and more forward.  Flattening my swing plane a tad, and swinging harder, chasing through the ball more too, so drives have been uncharacteristically longer.  It's good to find places in the fairway that I hadn't seen in quite a few years; especially since I am playing longer tee yardages, and has me pulling different clubs.

My swing feels stronger, more fluid, another good thing, but ended with another 79, which is in the opposite direction of shooting my age.  Besides Driver adjustments, the only other changes have been losing a few lbs, and increased gym & cardio workouts.

Played one of the local 9 hole muni goat ranches. Got paired up with a friendly youngster, 35 is a youngster to me, I'm 70. Center cut a 50 footer on 3 for bird after a good second around a  tree. Bogey on 7 after a lousy second shot and chip, wet on the par 3, 165 yard 8th for double. Then hit my 53* wedge on 9 from 75 yards and a crummy lie in the fairway stiff for another bird, 38. "You've played this game before." was the comment from the youngster. He wouldn't have said that if he'd seen me the last time out.

Shot 101 (+30) last 05/17/2025 when I was hoping to break 90 at my golf league tourney at Rock Hill GCC.

Screenshot_20250521_151835_Photos.jpg.aa92d5950f77295f0bd7ce4854704e61.jpg

I've shot 93, 92 and 91 the previous 3 years but it turned out to be an exercise in futility this time around.

Also, first time this year riding a golf cart when I always walk whenever I play any tourneys but due to course policies, walking was not allowed.

Anyway, I was 0/18 for GIR with 2 shanks which wasn't really helpful but still, I had at least four flashes of brilliance that I was proud of:

[1] Hitting a left handed chip shot from 70+ feet to 6 feet away from the hole.

[2] Making a sandy Par on hole # 9 by sinking a 9 foot putt after blasting out from a greenside bunker.

[3] Making another sandy Par on hole # 18 by executing an even better blast from the greenside bunker 30+ yards away to a foot from the hole.

[4] Holing a 29 foot putt for Par on hole #14 after hitting a flushed drive that  threaded the needle through a gap between trees to cut the corner on a aharp dogleg left Par 4.

The course is Byneset Golf - https://www.bynesetgolf.no/ (in Norwegian sorry). It's my home course, or the course I'm a member of. Here in Norway, pretty much all courses are somewhat public, but you have to be a member of a course to have access to the others (but you pay the greenfee obviously). By being a member of a course, you're within the Norwegian Golf Association umbrella, and thus have access to almost all other courses. There is a system in place where we book our tee-times online and pretty much all courses are on it, so non-members can also book tee times at other courses that aren't theirs.  Only a few that I know of that don't allow non-members to play on but I think they're more exclusive.

As for dogs, I don't think there is a rule against it that I know of, and lots of people do it, and it's an understanding that the dogs don't mess up the courses obviously.

As for staying on topic - played yesterday again on the executive course in 8C and windy weather. Wedge play was better, approach was a little direction impaired, putter was still working well and shot a +4 with a triple in there. Course gives me 2 shots. The triple was me trying to be clever with a flop shot and left me in a worse position than I started LOL.

I wish that was the same condition here in the USA. The 9 hole muni course (Christopher Morley GC) where I snuck my dog in had a sign that no dogs are allowed and there was a fine for breaking the rule if caught.

My county - Nassau county in New York has no clue on managing the muni courses we have and the conditions are barely passable. It's a shame that the public officials are clueless and/or ignorant to let the courses slip away incuding one course (Eisenhower Red) that held the 1926 PGA Chamionship.

Shot an even par on the short 9-hole course that I've posted about previously. The one bogey was a shanked 9-iron off the tee. Wedges are still a work in progress, focusing on making good contact, so next is to work on distance control and direction. No chunks, or skulls during the round. Putting still seems to be working.

Not today, but most recent round. 85 at the home course (Crumpin-Fox), went 41-44. Had absolutely no business being that good of a round. I can count on one hand the number of decent iron strikes that I had. Just managed to keep it in play and scrambled my a** off for some quality pars, "good" bogeys, and a chip in birdie. One bad three putt.

Wiping it, not striping it, at the moment.

Been going through a rough patch, hoping its changed. This was my best round of the year. I was +8 though 13 including putting my tee ball on 13 4' from the hole...unfortunately it was the #11 green that shouldn't be in play. Ended up finishing Birdie-Bogey-Birdie-Birdie-Par through the toughest stretch at the course.

Got my new ZXi5's and am still figuring out the distances a bit, but am hitting them well. But the putter has left the world. Last round and the front 9 today I had 55 putts. I swear I looked like a guy who had never seen a putter before much less used one. Off to the practice range.

+5 and while I'm VERY happy with this round, I really feel like I could have gone lower had I hit more greens. My drivers were fantastic and that's made such a huge difference.

They had a free TaylorMade fitting yesterday and I thought about playing, but was pretty sore after an hour of straight full swing drivers. So unfortunately I decided to go home, but forgot my hoodie in the studio. He gave it to the pro shop and I saw there was a 7:20 this morning, so I got my hoodie and played today. Weather was amazing.

This is how birdies are made .

79 this morning at 44* with 15+ mph winds. Second person on the course and the first was there well before me. Started on the back nine and played reasonably well.  Putter was working on the first loop. Made the turn and most of the holes seemed to be into the wind and less tree protection.  Wedge distances started fine and faded as the game went on. Ended up with a 79 and thrilled with that. Second round with the new graphite iron shafts installed, replacing the steel that were destroying my arm joints.  My back and body feel much less pain after play today.
