Adare Manor = Flat Augusta?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about adding Adare Manor to our trip in October. Everyone comments about how well the course is manicured, and the difficulty of the greens and runoffs. Can anyone comment on the actual holes there? i know its scheduled to host the 2026 Ryder Cup, but is it worth $550+ to play it.

Played it in 2015. Beautiful and challenging Parkland course and world class accommodations. Combined with the sw ireland links rota, Ballybunion, Tralee, Waterville, Lahinch, it was enjoyable to switch things up. You will feel like you are home again in terms of style of play. If it is your only trip to SW Ireland that you are planning,  I personally would say it is a must play, certainly  moreso than  Drumoland.

Thanks. We are doing Bally, Lahinch, and Tralee twice each as well as Doonbeg and The Island.

$550, wow!   It is, indeed, a great course - but that is a tough price.   Really hard for me to say yes since I never paid over 40e when I lived there.

I would do Waterville over Adare 10 of 10 times, being it is at almost half the price.

We tried to work Waterville into the trip, but just couldnt work it out. We will be driving over from Dublin on our way to the SW coast so was thinking about playing Adare on the way over, but man $500+ is a little steep. Just trying to justify paying twice as much as we are paying at Lahinch, Ballybunion, and Tralee.....

Yeah...major tough.  Did you try to get on Hogs Head?  How about Doonbeg?  Dooks?

Other options which are a little out of the way in terms of you route - you could go play Galway Bay and then down to Lahinch (not sure how your schedule lays out).  Or if south to north - you could got to Cork and play Fota Island.

Other than those there are really only a few options along the way. You could do Carton House just outside of Dublin (either course); for nostalgia purposes K Club.   Depending on your route, Heritage is a pretty good course; or one of my favorites (but probably because I love the whisky a LOT) is Esker Hills in Tullamore (Tullamore Dew). 🙂

Doonbeg is already on the schedule. We will have a few days in Dublin before we meet the rest of our group in Shannon.  We are playing the Island one day, taking one day to spend in the city, then looking for a round on our drive over to Shannon. I've looked at Palmerstown, but besides that there does not seem to be many options between there and Limerick. We may just play The Island and Royal Dublin then drive over after. We will start the western swing after we pick up the rest of our group in Shannon then play Doonbeg, then Lahinch (twice) Then make our way down to Listowel and play Ballybuion twice and Tralee twice.

The European Club deserves your consideration during your time around Dublin. You could play there early and then head west...

How would you compare that to The Island? I would really prefer to play another links rather than a parkland.

Needlessly so and The Island is very tough!

If staying north of Dublin Euro Club is a fair bit out of the way for a later drive to Shannon or just as a day trip when there are more convenient quality options such as Portmarnock and Portmarnock Links available. Of course, you could go off road and play the delightful Corballis, just down the road from The Island.

Actually if you want to play another links course near Dublin, then just add Baltray.  It is a really underrated course.

European club is great, but I would not consider it a 'replacement' for The Island.   Also, it is a bit farther (out of the way) south.  While I always enjoy Wicklow, if you are not spending time in the area it may not be worth the drive down there.

I havent had a chance to play Island but know people who have and they enjoyed it. We were extremely well received at the European Club and I mentioned it as an option for you to consider.

Long live this Forum...I love reading everyone’s (well pretty well everyone’s) posts...

cant wait to be able to travel for golf again.

Thanks for the advice. Looks great! If you would rate the difficulty of both, how do they compare? Trying to decide which one to play after getting off the 7 hour flight.

Baltray is relatively easy - and good call for off the plane.  Island is tough, personally think it is equal to European Club.

Save the Island for a day after a nice dinner and rest. 🙂

So was it Island or European Club?  Funny now as with Brexit is the European Club false advertising?😉

We have not confirmed yet, but I think it’s going to be Island on this trip. Then hopefully Adare Manor and pick up the rest of our guys and plat Doonbeg, Lahinch x2, Tralee x2, and Ballybunion x2.
