Johnson didn't want to go to Tokyo a year ago, before the COVID-19 pandemic led to a one-year delay, because of a crammed summer schedule and his desire to stay fresh for the PGA Tour's postseason that culminates with the FedEx Cup.

Don't really blame him. The flight over sucks, private or not. The current quarantine rules are also a bit harsh. Could be a much larger commitment than what most pros will want.

Can you really blame them though? Not like these guys all have $200 million contracts like the NBA guys. They have to tee it up for a paycheck and Olympic Gold doesn't match a major championship in prestige or pay. They represent their country in the President's cup and Ryder cup. Olympic golf should be college kids imo.

The summer Olympics are in a rough part of the season on the PGA schedule. I agree with those above, it should be the Ams playing.

Tiger’s injury stinks for a number of reasons, but it also means Tiger is going to miss the Olympics. It would have been tough for him to make the team, but I respect Tiger’s desire to represent his country. I wish Dustin felt the same way.

It’s the same I believe. The Tour had to adopt them to be able to send players to the Olympics.

Everybody remembers Justin Rose won gold.

He's already rich and top of the class. I could see it being a harder decision if he was really just starting to make a name and needed to play x tourneys to keep his card.

Perhaps DJ is more like Weiskopf than you? Weiskopf skipped a Ryder Cup to go hunting.  You find the Olympics to be a big deal and he evidently considers his pro career to be more important to him.

Not everyone remembers Rose winning. Perhaps it’s an age thing but I do not put Olympics and golf together. As someone else mentioned above golf’s patriot moments are mostly in the Ryder Cup and then less importantly the Presidents Cup.

I honestly had forgot until you said that.   I barely remember watching them play.  And I don’t worship the olympics.  It’s a literal den of thieves.

Right.  If I were going to travel it would be for $.  Not to make someone else $. Which is all the olympics is.  A money grab for the committee and the host country.  We already know we have the best golfers.  We don’t need to play in the olympics to prove that.
