Ping G425 Max?

Honeybadger

Recommended Posts

I have seen a few video reviews, and the G400 Max usually is as long, or longer. I would imagine, like the 400, it is very straight. One guy I play with has been playing with the regular 425, and it is very loud. From what I've seen, there is not enough difference for me to upgrade.

I played two rounds with it coming from a G400 Max that I should have kept in the bag. The G425 Max launches lower and the sound - too canny - threw me off. So, I returned it and heading on to a SIM2 max 😊 but again, you will have to tee it up yourself.

cheers, Soeren

I went G400 Max, to G410 LST as well.   I tried the G425 Max on course and tried the LST only with a monitor.  I have NOT switched.

I go back and forth depending upon how I am swinging between the 410 LST and 400 MAX.

In my testing the Epic MAX LS deserved a chance on the course so I did the U-try from Global golf.  The club arrived yesterday and of course it was raining.  It is supposed to rain today as well.  Most of tomorrow morning as well.  Hoping to get out and swing it Friday afternoon and play on Saturday with it.

My testing on the monitor I saw lower spin than the 400 MAX, and More forgiveness than the 410 LST.  Less forgiveness than the 400 Max, but the spin was similar to the 410 LST.  We will see if it happens on the course.   Luckily since adding the All-Fit golf adapter to my shafts and collars for every manufacturer I will be able to hit the range with all of my favorite shafts to try in the Callaway head. - This has me more excited than anything in a long time.

I have five rounds with my 425MAX and it has been great. I gamed a G20 for years before giving the 400MAX a try and it was good , but this 425MAX is better for me. Longer and straighter than the 400MAX with almost the same spin as the 410LST is what I am seeing. Yes, it is loud, but that doesn't bother me after seeing ball after ball sail straight down the fairway.

I was fitted for a PING G425 Max in late January, and finally got it in late February. I've played 81 holes with it in the last 3 weeks. I've hit some of the longest drives I've ever hit in 25 years of playing golf over the past 3 weeks. The G425 is very loud with range balls, but not so much with urethane premium balls. A buddy has been using my old TaylorMade M3 and that one is louder and higher pitched than the G425.

But do yourself a favor and go get fit. What works for me may not work for you. I used to ignore the whole fitting part and just want to try different drivers, because it's fun. But once I got on the launch monitor and saw just how optimized the G425 Max was for my swing, it was a no brainer. And I am absolutely seeing those results play out on the golf course.

Spins the same as the LST for you? Interesting.

Similar spin as the LST- that’s interesting.

The 425 max has made me sell the tsi3 and not think twice. Yea the sound is not the best but you have to miss the ball completely to hit this thing bad. It is beating the 400max by an easy 15 yards and I believe its even more forgiving. I am playing a tensei raw orange in the 425 and a tour 65 in the 400max but I don’t think its all to do with the shafts being different. Its really an unbelievable club after 10 rounds with it and I try them all.

I like it more than the G400 Max. Its not as left side biased. I guess one can say the G425 Max is like the G400/G410 LST in spin but with Max MOI.

So I hit the G425 Max and compared it to my G410 LST (didn’t want to bother with G425 LST, because I read the 425 Max had similar spin numbers to the 410LST but with more forgiveness). The verdict for me was that the numbers were almost exactly the same- ball speed, dispersion, launch angle, and swing speed. The only difference was that the 410 LST sounded better and the weight felt better- that of course is a very personal thing. But it was interesting to see that the numbers were exactly the same for me.

I would bet though, that on the course the 425 will be better. Dispersion on LM fittings aren’t representative of misses on the course for me. I had similar dispersion and total distance numbers on a LM with my Mavrik Sub Zero and 425LST, but on the golf course it’s not even close. The 425 is in a different league on misses. That’s my experience anyway

I replaced my 9* 410 LST with a 9* 425 Max.  Im not going back.

It was as long and far more forgiving for me.

the 425 does launch higher IMO, so I have turned it down 1.5 deg to keep it in a more comfortable launch window for my eye. I have to work a little harder to shape my shots, but most of the time a straight drive works.

Well having played the G425 Max for 3 rounds now, I’m going back to my G410 LST. I just can’t seem to find any consistency with it at all and I can’t get past the sound even with the 3 grams of hot melt added by Ping.

Today I went to move the rear weight and the screw snapped off inside. Going to take it back to my club pro and get a full refund. Also going to cancel my 5W order since it’s been 8 weeks since ordered and nothing yet.

Bummed. Hopefully no issues with returning it for a full refund.

I have been waiting on delivery (ordered February 1) of my i210 irons - but also wanted to change driver. While I did not do a proper fitting - I was able to hit outdoors today (no sim) the G425 Max and LST.  While I was missing the technical side - for me at least seeing the ball flight and see how the ball flies on mishits - made the Max the winner. I choose the Alta CB shaft in stiff -but will test against other shafts using trackman (outdoors) after I get delivery. Covid has changed the dynamics of getting fit (fitters are all backed up) and timely delivery.

Got 2 rounds on mine now.  I have the TSi3, SIM2 Max and the G425 Max.  All great drivers. All very forgiving, but the G425 Max is the most consistent of all 3 and the best dispersion on off center hit.  yes it is a louder higher pitched sound but that is a Ping driver.

How would you compare the G425 Max and SIM2 Max in distance and forgiveness? Was the Ventus black shaft a noticeable upgrade vs the stock shafts for them? What is your club head speed? Thanks.

the G425 is the more forgiving head and for me distance is pretty much the same.  The Ventus black in the SIM2 Max helps keep the spin down.  I have a KBS TD 70 Cat 4 in my G425.  Good distance and forgiving combo.  I am around 105 ss.

I went from G410 LST to G425 LST and then sold it and went back to the G410 LST.   IMO, the G425 sound is terrible and I didn't hit it any better than my G410 so it didn't last very long.

It’s crazy how bad it sounds. I have 3 grams of hot melt and that wasn’t enough. I think you’d need 6 grams to change the sound for the better.

Listening to the sound of the G425 for the tour players on tv sounds nothing like what it does in real life. It’s like they’re hitting a different driver.
