Ping G410 crossover gapping?

TLDR: Does your 23* g410 crossover go 15 yards further than your g410 23.5* 5 iron?

 

Thinking about rearranging the top of my bag and need some gapping advice.

 

Currently I'm playing a combo set, g410 5 and 6 (which are 23.5* and 26.5*) and I200 6-p (6 is 29.5*), those are all good and well. However, above those I have an 818 h1 23*, and two 3 woods that I can't decide between (g400 14.5* and 917f2 15*). I want to get rid of all 3 of these clubs because I can't hit any of them off the deck (I'm a digger not a sweeper) nor do I need to (I just layup from 220+ instead of slicing a hybrid OB), and they're no better off the tee than driver.

 

So my solution was going to be a 19* 818 h2 3 hybrid for my steeper swing and a 4 iron (thinking g410 crossover or ZU85) below that. But I just realized that the ping 5 iron is only 0.5* weaker than g410 4 crossover, I know the crossover is hotter with the hollow body and ribbing, but I'm still worried it won't go 15-20 yards further than my 5 iron. Additionally, I'm worried there might be a similar gapping issue with the 818 h2 19* (I've heard the h2 is much shorter than the h1).

 

Does anyone have experience with a ping crossover? How did it flow into your irons distance wise? I hope ping would have made it to flow into their own iron sets nicely.

 

for reference my 818 h1 23* goes about 210 inconsistently, g410 5 iron goes ~ 200 yards, g410 6 goes ~190, i200 6 ~175-180 etc.

I'm hoping the 4 crossover or ZU85 will go ~215 and h2 19* will go 225+

 

I have an h2 19* on the way but I was hoping to get my fellow WRXers opinions on the utility iron before I buy one as I have no experience with them.

I'm also considering a 5w and one of the hybrid/utility, but probably my next experiment after this one fails miserably

I wouldn’t be to concern or OCD with what loft is stamped on the iron or utility iron but rather confirm with the launch monitor for a playable window on launch angle, carry, roll out, height and spin rates. Also see how the longer clubs (iron, crossover, hybrid and wood) the ball flight personally fits your eye or game. For example, my set 3 iron is difficult to launch off the deck but the distance and gapping is consistent from the 4 iron when teed up.

 

Since you hit the 5 iron so well, the G410 crossover would fit in nicely. I use to play the i210 (3-PW) iron and but still have my G410 17* crossover, that thing is long. 
 

I would try out the G410 20* crossover  if you are concern with the loft and gapping being too close to your 23*/5 iron. I find with a true long iron, it’s easier to execute a stinger to lower the trajectory and spin rate which results in deceivingly long roll out shots.

 

With my G410 crossover 17*, it’s hot, forgiving, long and easier to elevate vs my two iron and even set 3 iron which is what I need off the tee on par 4s.

 

My next longer club is a 16* 4 wood despite my crossover being at 17*.  The 4 wood goes higher, a club longer with the right amount of spin to hold greens. The crossover, I’m expecting to chase it far off the tee or roll onto or thru the green. Hybrids don’t fit my game; I tend to over swing and the resulting spin rates are too high/unacceptable.

 

Sorry this doesn’t help much, but this was my experience.
