I've seen some people on FB asking for courses that are going to be open this weekend ... and there are a few that are going to be.  Man, as much as I have an itch to play I'm not so sure about that.  Going to be sloppy out there.

The only thing that might save the few courses that will be open this weekend from being totally packed is if they don't let carts out. I'd would try to get out for a round, but I don't want to play a 5 hour round in the mud. Plus, I scratched the itch by playing a few times in Texas the last few weeks, so I'm probably not going to bother.

I caved and am expecting a 3 hour 9 at Washtenaw Golf Club.

I have to believe Northern Michigan is no different than ONtario when it comes to black flies.  The rule of thumb was three consecutive days in the 80s basically kills them off.  So pray for a warm spring.  I know there is something about too much rain or whatever that can bring them back, but I think a good heat wave means the end of them.

 

Mosquitoes are a living hell anywhere and everywhere.

Hello y’all, hopefully the weather continues to improve. 
My wife is from SW Michigan and we built a house in 2014, coming up this weekend for the first time in 2022, golf starting up 4/1 at my club.

The bad weather seems to be following me wherever I go. Had a buddies trip in Orlando in late Jan and it was windy AF. Highest temp we saw on the course was probably 67 and one morning it was 38 when we teed off...30 mph wind and a high of 47.

 

Last week I was in Arizona and it never got above 60. Also windy AF and it even snowed at 2500 feet. 

 

I'm currently in Punta Cana, and it's been plenty warm, but super windy (15-30 mph) and has rained 3-4 times a day everyday 🤷‍♂️

 

Still beats never being home during the winter I guess...

All 4 times I played in Texas, it was blowing at least 20 mph, and one of those times, it dipped down to about 40 degrees during the round. It was nice to get out an play some actual golf, but it's hard to gauge where your game is playing in that after a couple months off. But no complaints, because I could have been stuck at home hitting into a net in the garage instead.

I switched irons to a set of Cobra CB irons recently that my wife had bought for my birthday back in October. I've really grown to like them better than my 919F's, as they have much more of a tour profile. I seem to hit the sweet spot more on the smaller heads for some reason. The only problem with them is they're two degrees weaker lofted than my old set, so they really seem to balloon in the wind and it's killing me when trying to pull the right club.

 

I do have 223's on order, which are closer to the lofts I'm used to and have the more tour profile. They're just taking forever to get here. Carl's just emailed me that my chosen shaft (modus 115g) is now on backorder until the end of the month.

I ordered 223's with PX IO 6.0 shafts and I am told May is when I will get them.

Well I'm glad I didn't go with those, as they were my 2nd choice hahaha

Yeah I'm not that worried about it. I have the 770's now and I like them. I just wanted to get away from a hollow body injected clubhead, but there is nothing wrong with them and I hit them well. I just have a golf addiction and my skin starts to crawl when I go a month or two without making an unnecessary golf purchase lol.

It’s getable.  Must challenge the water.  I’ve had 200 in (lay up) and also gap wedge in.  I’ve birdied it a few times and seen others do it too.  Tons of people don’t finish that hole.

Played Harbor Shores a few times when it opened up and I lived in St. Joe and could play for a reasonable price.  Chicago traffic has driven up rates.  I enjoy the course, but a bit pricey.  For the same rate, I would head to Forest Dunes.

I agree 100% but FD is about 2 states away!  I avoid it, but my friends want to play it when they visit.  I usually try to sit that round out.

Where do you usually play when you are in town?  Are you a member at the Pointe or LD?

My commute these days takes me directly past Rolling Meadows and Clearbrook these days, and The Ravines isn't too far off the beaten path.  We'll see if I can't sneak in a few rounds at each course this summer.

I have somehow managed to never play Rolling Meadows ... heck, I generally don't remember the name of the course when I go past.  Need to try it one just because it always looks like it's decently maintained.  

 

Clearbrook is fine but I don't ever feel the need to play it more than once a year, twice in a pinch.  Ravines is definitely worth the play but I never bother during peak season, they certainly maximize revenue when the summer people are around.

 

Anyone get notice of more W/SW MI courses opening?  I know Maple HIll opened the front nine for walking and Pigeon Creek was going to open this week.  Moss Ridge in Muskegon is opening at some point this week.  I think that's all I know about so far.

Can anyone recommend places to go out in Lansing/East Lansing?  This will mostly be in the afternoons for dinner and definitely drinks, since we're playing during the days.  

A small group is going in July.  Mid 30's and all married lol.  Love patios/pubs/social houses/etc.
