Hi guys!   Headed to the UP next week to play Sweetgrass, Sage Run and Greywalls.  We have nothing planned for our arrival day. Wondering if there is anything worth playing from the bridge to Sweetgrass on the way up?  Gladstone?  I kinda wanna play Timberstone but it's an hour passed the resort and we will already be in the car for about 7 hours driving from GR.  Any suggestions, thanks!

You’re in for a treat. Play sweet grass the day of arrival and get 36 in at Greywalls. Haven’t played sage run but timber stone was pretty cool

Based on what I saw when I was looking, your username fits for Greywalls.  $325.  I'm all for it if they can get it, but they won't be getting it from me.

They have an outstanding stay and play package. I'm playing 4 courses and staying 3 nights in the resort hotel for $500.  It's the best value around. No one pays full rack at Greywalls.

Going to be out in this Brighton/Ann Arbor area this coming weekend for the Hatch Golf event. Looking for some suggestions on places to play.

Going to play a round at UofM as long as we can get a time. But Looking for some other suggestions.

Check out Lyon Oaks, either of the MetroPark courses or Huntmore.

Lake Forest, Eagle Crest, Washtenaw CC, Lyon Oaks are some of the nicer tracks in the area.

Not after the bridge, but pretty close, you could swing off 75 and hit up Black Lake.  It's been a minute but I'd guess it's about 45ish mins before the bridge?  I think it's about 20-25 minutes off 75 but not going past your destination like you would with Timberstone.  That being said, I did the same package last Summer that you are doing and Timberstone was awesome, really enjoyed it a lot.

Is that an order of ranking as well or just what's around?

Seems like Lyon Oaks has come up a few times so that seems like a must play.

That wasn't meant as a ranking -- it's kind of based on proximity to my house and that's the order they came out of my head. The Cardinal is the best of the bunch by a pretty wide margin, IMO, however. My personal preference would be:

The Cardinal

Fox Hills

Washtenaw

Lyon Oaks

Huntmore

Northville Hills

Moose Ridge

Adding a few:

Coyote Preserve

Stonebridge

Leslie Park - Ann Arbor Municipal

Washtenaw GC is one of the oldest golf courses in the state.  The Metro Parks have some good courses as well.

I would add that if you're playing on the weekend, I would avoid Northville Hills and Stonebridge. In my experience, pace of play on the weekends both places is atrocious.

Here is my top of the head plan for rounds

Friday: Timber Trace (we're playing a charity scramble), depending on how we feel might try and jump on another course near Brighton for a twilight round, maybe Moose Ridge or go north to The Majestic or Coyote Preserve.

Saturday: Huntmore Golf Club, this is where the event is being hosted and probably an all day event.

Sunday: Eagle Creek then Fox Hill. Could swap in The Cardinal for either if anyone says to.

Monday: U of Michigan I then drive back home, the other guys who know might point them towards Shepards Hollow or something towards the airport.

I don't believe you'll be disappointed in those courses.  Majestic and Coyote Preserve are both good courses.  Eagle Crest is in Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan's home course.   Fox Hill (Golden Fox) is nice.  I haven't played The Cardinal.   Shepards Hollow is one of the nicest courses in the country.  Give it a strong look.

Did some research on top of the suggestion and trying to get the most logical layout and pricing. Hopefully can get tee times.

We are heading up to Forest Dunes and Arcadia in mid September.

Day 1- Driving to FD from Detroit playing the bootlegger.

Day 2 - Playing FD and The Loop Black

Day 3- Drive to Arcadia, playing the South Course (Afternoon)

Day 4- Bluffs course mid morning

We love walking with caddies but don't want to all the time. Would it be cool to walk FD and then ride The loop?

Same thing at Arcadia, ride the South and walk the Bluffs?

The Loop is an easy walk. Arcadia South is an easy walk. That said, there are no trees for shade on Arcadia South so if it’s hot a cart might be useful.

I get that, but I loved the Loop because it was so different from everything else. The Dunes is a fine course with impeccable conditioning but it could be just about anywhere. FWIW, our group had ballooned to 32 by the time we got to Forest Dunes and I think only around 8 of us preferred the Loop over Dunes. But everyone in our group who had played in the UK preferred the Loop.

Yes, The Loop is more akin to UK style of golf. I think a few rounds are needed to understand landing areas etc. People get frustrated with well struck shots going long or trying to bounce shots up and being short. I think it’s a brilliant course. But if folks want bling The Loop is not the place to play.

So far just booked Shepard's Hollow for Sunday morning, trying to decide on a second 18 that day, called UM but they are booked for events on Sunday and Monday.  Now trying to decide on a second 18 after Shepard's Hollow and a round for Monday morning, not sure if Eagle Crest, Fox Hills or The Cardinal would be the best option.

Back from Michigan and that was a fun weekend. Just a rundown of my thoughts on each course, nothing too scientific.

Timber Trace - Honestly this was a bit of a shock but in a good way. Was a really nice course, really solid conditions apparently the new owners are putting money into it and improving it, the bunkers will all be white sand soon and green rolled well.

Huntmore Club - This course was tough, it didn't help that it was soaked when we played that made it tougher. It also sucked it didn't drain well cause it was so low but was solid overall. I'm sure when dry and knowing what's going on would be much more enjoyable.

Sheppard's Hollow - I think this was a favorite for the group, really nice, very scenic. I'm used to something like this up in Toronto but the others it was what they thought of for "Michigan Golf". I might dock it a few points because as a lefty that hits a fade I was stuck on several tee boxes where I had to use something other than driver or else my ball didn't get through the trees at the tee box.

Eagle Crest - Maybe the most disappointing but not awful honestly for $60 we were not upset but the tee boxes were shaggy and a bit beat up, goose poop everywhere, layout was a little odd at times having to back track to get to a tee box. We could see the potential but assume it's in better condition when getting use from EMU?

Fox Hills Golden Fox - Unfortunately we didn't get to see it all we only got through 12 or 13 holes before lightning hit and we decided to call it a weekend. I liked the style of course where it's open and a bit more forgiving but plenty of holes you still needed to make good shots or your score can add up fast.

All in all I think a very good introduction into Michigan golf, I definitely see myself coming back seeing as it's not that far of a drive for me and the golf is nice. Time to save up and apply for my Nexus card I guess.

I'm playing Shepherd's tomorrow when my buddies fly in from Arizona. Thursday we head to Bucks Run and then Tullymore/St. Ives.

I'm hoping we didn't get too much rain today to affect conditions tomorrow.

It wasn't too bad when I played, it was damp but that was really it condition wise. Not sure how much rain you guys are getting today but hopefully it's good by Thursday.
