Well I managed to tear my labrum in the most embarrassing way possible (Throwing a golf club). Anyone have a great recommendation for an Ortho? Willing to drive as far as it takes on a good referral. I have not been impressed with the two surgeons I've used in the past.

My buddy and I are planning our fall golf trip and have settled on Michigan. There will be a group of 4-6 of us and we’re looking to stay at a resort this time. A-ga-ming is one we’re looking at as it seems the value is pretty good. Does anyone have any experience/insight they can share? We’re also open to other resorts if this one isn’t all that great. Most of us live in the Great Plains so courses with the most scenic/unique views would take precedence.

A-ga-ming us just ok imo. The Sundance course is nice, but I'm not a huge fan of the Torch course.

Personally I'd rather stay at Shanty Creek nearby.

I really enjoyed Boyne.  Arthur Hills course and Bay Harbor have the views

I did notice there weren’t any prices on the website- which typically isn’t a good thing. I sent an inquiry this evening so I’ll see what the damage would be

They've become a little full of themselves the last few years, I think they even took the name Boyne out of their Highlands resort.

You all are so lucky to have golf prices where they are, especially especially up in the middle tier resort courses.  As you are saying Boyne went up, well I hope so!  Our trip, before Covid, was so inexpensive we couldn’t believe it!  Something like $125 a night with breakfast and a round.  If that’s $300 now that’s still a deal.  I’d pay $200 to play Arthur Hills or Bay Harbor.

I think Bay Harbor is charging $350 for a round these days, but yes it used to be way to cheap. I know a spring trip I had quoted for a 2 rounds and a night was more than double the price of the last time I booked it.

Take a look at Treetops and Garland. If you opt for Treetops, make sure to mix in the Tribute at Otsego.

I heard back from Boyne this morning. It looks like it’ll be around ~$1K for 3 nights and 4 days with 3-4 rounds of golf. Looks like they’re charging more for Bay Harbor, Arthur Hills, and Heather. So it’ll be about double the quote we got from A-ga-Ming. Looking into some others people have mentioned as well. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

All I recall is that this guy would have been voted most hated man in Michigan if this forum had any influence on the proceedings. I don't really care what his name was, was really just making a joke.

I would look into Forest Dunes ASAP.  That’s right around what my group paid last year for 3 rounds, 3 nights, and a couple loops around the par 3 course.

I’m heading to Traverse City next week and I’ve already booked Arcadia Bluffs, which is one of my all time favorites. I’ve played Kingsley and Lochenheath previously but I don’t think I can get on either now. Can someone please rank these four? We’re going to play two of them. I’ve played them all except the Wolverine but it’s been a few years. Thanks!

All good courses but i would go cedar river, the bear, the wolverine, the legend. wolverine and legend are close, but the legend gets a little tight in spots.

I think Cedar River is awesome.  Legend was just ok for me.

I’d say Cedar River is #1, Legend is #4.

Coin Flip for Bear and Wolverine in the middle.

If you go to Shanty Creek, Cedar River + Hawk's Eye is a nice combo.

Edit: I heard this past weekend that Hawk's Eye is now part of Shanty Creek, which seems like a positive development for the course. Maintenance was often an issue there, and I'd think that being part of the larger resort would likely make conditions better on a consistent basis.

A little off topic, those of you in GR, what is a good liquor store I could expect to find a decent selection of bourbon?  Thinking I will be in that area in about a month, and would want to get a gift for someone.

I've found some good stuff at D. Schulers in Wyoming

If you are on the NE side of town - Crushed Grape is good.
