They didn’t give them out last one I played it. That was years ago though.

They do a skins game at tournaments. I even won one at the Mid-Am a few years ago. I haven't played in any of the Golf Days, so I can't speak to that.

I played last September at Selfridge and they did two places in each division.

My car said it was 47 out today!! And we are just about thru the ugly month of January! Lol. Been in Michigan for the past 5 years and haven’t been able to join a golf league because I traveled so often for work but I just got a new job so the option is now open to me. Anyone know of any leagues that will have vacancies this year? Myself and a couple friends are looking to join one. There could potentially be 4 of us looking to join. Hoping to find something in the South Lyon, Novi, Northville, Plymouth areas. Thanks in advance!

I just read about a private club at FD they are building. It sounds like they will allow those in guest accommodations to use it too on a limited basis. Let’s go!

Read all about it here.  Don't be in a hurry, it probably will be at least 2 years in the making and FD lodging is scarce.

I like it alot so far. I don't ever plan on taking it outside though. I bought it because it is literally connected to a projector via HDMI cable and turn it on and it works. Plus it has 40,000 courses on it. Graphics are decent but nothing will blow your mind. For me, it works perfectly. I didn;t want to spend 5 figures on a LM and I have a Rapsodo that just doesn't cut it. So this was right in the middle and works great. I will say, it's rather large and I don't think it would be the best to lug to the range all the time.

Opinions needed!

 

Im taking a day trip to play golf early July from northern Wisconsin. The last couple of years I have played Sand Valley. 
 

This year I’m thinking Greywalls or Lawsonia. Sentry World is an option too. Theres a small chance I will have access to Minoqua Country Club and will most likely go that route if available. 
 

Ideally I’ll play 36. Minocqua would be the exception. If there are two courses worth playing then great, if it’s a second loop around the same course that’s fine too. Currently there isn’t availability at Sand Valley for 36. If it’s just 18 I plan to try something new. Unless I am somehow able to get on Lido. 

Erin Hills is tempting but I think it’s a bit further than I’m willing to drive. This has to be a day trip. 
 

Give me your opinions on the courses mentioned above. Greywalls, Lawsonia, Sentry World, and Minocqua Country Club. Or if there’s anything else I need to know about I’m all ears!

Greywalls is spectacular.  I would pair that would Timberstone and sweet grass as they have a pretty nice play package and new course was added to it as well.  Not sure about the others mentioned as I have never played them

Dunno about the details of where in Wisconsin you may be coming from but making a round trip to Marquette, playing 36 at Greywalls and then driving back would be a very, very long day.

Yeah it’s a long trip for sure. I’m leaving from the Minocqua area.
 

Sand Valley is about 2:30 from where I’ll be.  Greywalls and Lawsonia are another 25-30 according to maps. I need to do some more research but it seems like the drive to Lawsonia may be a bit easier than Greywalls even though the time is similar? Just thinking about it from a road size and quality standpoint. I love seeing good golf courses and hate to let a good opportunity slip by.

Love the back 9 at Lawsonia, but Greywalls blows the others out of the water. Just a fantastic setting and fun as hell golf course.

Surprised I haven’t seen anything about the Mike Devries  project at Dunham Hills. I quickly flipped through the recent pages so maybe I missed it. 
 

To me this is the most exciting thing for public golf in the Detroit area in a long time.  IF it is going to allow public play (sounds like it will). 
 

I’ve never played Dunham hill, but with 130 acres and an interesting looking topo. Hopeful that Mike could do something special.

That would be an interesting combination over there.  The course is already a tough play with severe elevation changes and slopes.  The trees could use a bit of thinning out, but it's a challenging layout.  I use their range for practice semi-regularly.

Interesting -- I'd heard some stuff about the plans to bring DeVries in to build a new course a few years ago, but it never seemed to go anywhere. The site at Dunham definitely has some potential, and I'll be interested to see what DeVries will do with it. The current course is not one of my favorites in the area -- I haven't played it in at least 5 years, since the MI Publinx stopped holding tournaments there and their team moved to a different course, and I haven't missed it. From what I remember it will certainly benefit from a substantial amount of tree removal.

I forgot all about that! The group has been looking to get a DeVries course built in the Detroit area from my understanding but in the short term it looks like getting a redesign at Dunham hills. It looks to continue to stay public but offering some nice looking season passes. From what I have seen on Twitter there has been a lot of tree cutting in the winter to thin that out. I have only played the course once and enjoyed it. I remember the greens being very fast and that was surprising. Excited to see how it turns out, as it's pretty close to my other normal spots of play when not up north.

Leagues - Tanglewood Golf Club

 

I would think most courses would be willing to put you in touch with their returning golf leagues. If you haven't yet, try calling Links of Novi, Moose Ridge, Lyon Oaks, Beacon Hill, or Fox Hills.

I know Beacon Hill is staffed since they have sims now. Lyon probably won’t be staffed for another couple weeks. Dunno on the other two.

I played 18 holes today at Forest Dunes.  The course is in amazing shape and the greens are so pure!  Love that place and don't hesitate to get up there now as the course is in really amazing shape.  Its as good of a golf course as you will find in the U.S.

Was planning on playing Friday, but $175 with temps in the 30's and chance of rain is a hard pass for me.

I was planning to play this afternoon in the GR area, 45 degrees and raining sideways.  Yeesh.  No thanks.  Hope it warms up soon, supposed to play Pilgrim's on Monday.

Yeah that's to rich for my blood.  I walked 18 and paid $105.....that seemed reasonable but getting close to $200 is pricing a ton of people out including myself
